  2. It’s never a good thing to make someone ******, and if today’s LoLdle quote and this League of Legends champion are to be believed, you really don’t want to make the ball ******—but what exactly that means, and who says it, is a little unclear. Who says, ‘The ball is ******’ in LoL? The LoLdle quote on Sept. 18 is, “The ball is ******.” The League champion who says this line is Orianna. View the full article
  3. Sony’s unveiling of the PS5 Pro should have been a moment of triumph for the company and its fans alike. Instead, the whole gaming world can’t stop talking about how stupidly overpriced the $700 console is. Overpriced products tend to make other products look great in comparison, so here are some appetizing alternatives. 1) PS5 with full set of accessories Let’s start with the obvious. The PS5 Pro’s price isn’t simply outrageous compared to other products, it’s outrageous when put next to Sony’s own lineup. For the $700 you must cough up for the Pro, you can get a base PlayStation 5 with a disc drive, buy a vertical stand to place it on (so it doesn’t look like it drank one too many beers and decided to take a nap on the sidewalk), buy an extra DualSense controller, and a charging station for your new set of controllers. 4. At the height of streaming’s exclusivity wars earlier this decade, stream queen Pokimane had the chance to make “life-changing” money if she dumped Twitch for YouTube—but loyalty and her “idiotic” honesty saw her turn down the cash. Pokimane, who’s no longer exclusivity signed to Twitch anyway, opened up on YouTube’s hardline recruitment drive on her Sweet ‘n’ Sour podcast: Right when the Google-owned platform was looking to draw title names away from Twitch, the company’s negotiating squad approached Pokimane to open conversations. It started with a “very big offer” the 28-year-old described as life-changing money; notable considering she’s worth close to $25 million. View the full article
  5. Hungry Helldivers 2 players—who have been drip-fed a series of buffs by Arrowhead developers over the past two weeks—have hit the servers hard following the major update’s arrival today, setting a three-month concurrent record and pushing the game’s review score back up. After nearly a month of heavily negative reviews on Steam off the back of the Sony PlayStation Network incident and a round of controversial nerfs that nobody asked for, the recent review score for Helldivers 2 on Steam is finally back to “Mixed,” but a further look reveals nearly 3,000 positive reviews were recorded over just the past two days. Even more impressively, not a single negative review was submitted yesterday; a first for the title since mid-June. View the full article
  6. The 2024 edition of The International has wrapped, and you know what that means: It’s Dota 2 rostermania time. Teams will be looking to adjust heading into the next season, which kicks off just weeks after TI wrapped up in Denmark. There’s no better time to make necessary roster changes than after TI, and we’ve seen some pretty huge swaps come out of the post-TI season. 2024 has been no different already; teams that didn’t qualify for Dota‘s pinnacle tournament didn’t even wait for the event to end before pulling the trigger on a swap or two. Without the DPC in place, there’s no hard date on roster locks, but with qualifiers for the likes of BetBoom Dacha and DreamLeague creeping ever closer, teams won’t be waiting too long to lock in their five players for the season ahead. 7. Taking care of something can be an enjoyable endeavor—if you know how to take care of it, that is. As “tended to, as a squeaky wheel” is one of today’s NYT crossword clues, knowing how to tend to something like that might not be obvious. This squeaky clue’s six across in the Sept. 18 NYT Mini Crossword puzzle. And if you’re wondering what the answer is, you’ll find it below. View the full article
  8. Diablo 4 has recovered from launch hiccups, poor server capacity, microtransaction costs, and a near-game ending first patch to become a Blizzard staple, with the gaming giants now planning to support the action RPG sequel well into the future. Rod Fergusson, the general manager of all things Diablo-related, unpacked the failures and the successes of Diablo 4 in an interview with Video Game Chronicle, sharing how the team has been learning from gaming data and player feedback to mould the title into what it looks like in September 2024—and how, despite all the bumps it took to get this to moment, Blizzard is now all-in on “supporting the game for years to come.” View the full article
  9. Tiny Glade is a game about building rustic old abodes in idyllic pastorals. There are no challenges, there is no narrative, nothing is unlockable and nothing is at stake. This is a meditative digital play object made for tinkering. It's a creative sandbox with firm boundaries designed to make even the most perfunctory effort yield "beautiful" results... 10. XDefiant boss Mark Rubin has today boldly proclaimed his Ubisoft shooter game is “absolutely not dying,” which sounds a whole lot like what you’d hear if the game was dying. XDefiant‘s year one update arrived today, complete with a launch announcement for season two and a roadmap leading up through season four. That doesn’t seem to be what caught most peoples’ attention, though. Instead, ******* in the update notes, executive producer Mark Rubin addressed concerns surrounding the title: “Is the game dying? No, the game is absolutely not dying,” Rubin says, noting there are improvements to make, but overall, the game’s doing well. View the full article
  11. When it comes to hunting down every item in Stardew Valley, the process can take a long time, which makes missing a particular item attached to an event or character very stressful. Fortunately, developer ConcernedApe is aware that accidentally overlooking content can be incredibly frustrating for those who want to experience everything on offer, so several back-ups are included to ensure everything can be found. Of course, when these measures are a little difficult to detect, the community is quick to provide some much-appreciated advice on where to head next. View the full article
  12. Reviews for ***** Rising Deluxe Remaster are popping up online, and the word is it's a redux worth the bucks. Having clocked it already myself, I can say that a bunch of 2006-era jank has been fixed, most notably in the controls and survivor AI pathfinding departments. Speaking of Capcom, PC gamers can cash in on some serious discounts, too! In retro news, I’m breaking out the SoulStorm Brew and birthday cake for Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. I have two core memories of playing this 27 years ago on the OG PlayStation. One is of being blown away—and I do mean utterly, like a Mudokon getting lit up by a Slig—with Oddysee’s phenomenal fusing of pre-rendered video and 2D puzzle-platforming. And two: losing a good 20 minutes in the GameSpeak menu, making Abe chatter, whistle, but mostly just rip farts and laugh at himself. Live that dream yourself in the redux, New ‘n’ Tasty. 15. Japan’s biggest variety Twitch streamer, Junichi Kato, has been embroiled in a cheating scandal this week after admitting to fans he’d be unfaithful to his wife of two years, but instead of bringing him into disrepute, the sombre admission appears to have actually bolstered his fanbase—and even led to a surge in streaming donations. Kato, better known as “Unko-chan” to his many streaming fans, broke the news he’d been unfaithful in a Sept. 16 livestream, nearly a week after being spotted at Dodger Stadium in L.A. with a woman suspected to be ****** entertainer Ai Hongo. “I wanted to do it,” he said while apologizing to his gathered fans, adding his “shoulders are down.” Kato had previously claimed he had only travelled to Dodger Stadium to see Shohei Ohtani play. 20. A new ****** from Genshin Impact 5.1 has leaked and it may prove to be more annoying than the Wolves of the Rift faction, often referred to as Riftwolves or Rifthounds. Version 5.1 is the next major update for HoYoverses action RPG and it should give continuity to the Natlan-related contents that were first introduced with Version 5.0. In the current, players saw the release of three new playable characters: Mualani, Kachina, and Kinich. There was also the introduction of several new Natlan enemies in Genshin Impact 5.0 that help populate the Nation of Pyros map. View the full article

  25. Baldur's Gate 3 may allow players to thoroughly explore the titular city, but one player wanted to take things a little further and show off a particularly iconic part of The Forgotten Realms. Avernus is a major part of the game's setting as the narrative picks up shortly after the events of the Descent into Avernus adventure, but Baldur's Gate 3 only allows players to steal a glimpse at the fiery landscape. It seems like a waste given how important it is to the narrative, so it stands to reason that some users would want to see more. View the full article
