(credit: Nexus Mods) Final Fantasy XVI finally arrives on Windows PCs today, over a year after its launch on the PlayStation 5. That means expanded access for a game that sold below Square Enix's expectations on console. But it also means the first opportunity for modders to add their own content to the game. For game producer Naoki Yoshida, though, that new opportunity comes along with a plea for the user community to behave themselves when modifying the game. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Yoshida felt the need to step in when director Hiroshi Takai was asked about what "goofy mods" he would like to see in the game. "If we said, 'It'd be great if someone made xyz,' it might come across as a request, so I'll avoid mentioning any specifics here!" Yoshida told PC Gamer. "The only thing I will say is that we definitely don't want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don't make or install anything like that." When playing Stardew Valley, regardless of the approach, the relationships between villagers are essential to its experience. The villagers each have their own personality, making it more interesting as it's up to the player in whom they want to invest, so they can have a platonic or romantic relationship with whoever connects with them the most. For the most part, the deciding factor comes from their interactions and the dialogue, and out of all the residents, one gets the most backlash, even though there is more at play. In an effort to “remain competitive at the highest level,” one of the best teams in CS history, Astralis, is picking up Casper “cadiaN” Møller to serve as its new in-game leader. CadiaN previously played for Team Liquid, where he moved after a long tenure at Heroic. The transfer was announced by Astralis on Sept. 17, saying that the team always had the ambition to “unite the best Danish Counter-Strike talent,” as well as to be a high-level professional team competing with the best of the best. CadiaN’s new position as Astralis’ IGL comes as a replacement for another player, Alexander “br0” Bro, who actively played for the team since early March of this year. View the full article
Every goal in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. The New Jersey team challenge in THUG. Manualing down the Alcatraz switchbacks in THPS4. I've done them all. But nothing from the Birdman's eponymous series ever came close to the thrill of Skate. Beginning in 2007, the swap to analogue-stick dependent close control made even the slightest achievement in virtual skateboarding, a mere kickflip or successful 50-50 grind, feel monumental. Combined with an incredible soundtrack, gorgeous visuals, hilarious physics, and some great writing, the Skate games remain some of my personal favorites. And now, finally, after all this waiting, the series is coming back, as EA confirms the Skate 4 early-access launch window. Read the rest of the story... For the first three chapters of the Frostpunk 2 story, the environments are pretty flat, and you probably won’t need to rotate the camera. AMD is going all-in on artificial intelligence to power its new frame-generation tech, with the hope of boosting the frame rates and battery life of handheld devices such as the Steam Deck. AMD FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4) will be AMD's fourth release of the technology designed to help boost frame rates in games. AMD revealed that it made the switch internally to focus on an AI-based approach "nine to 12 months ago," because the original FSR technology wasn't "where the future is going" for gamers. The company continues to battle it out against Nvidia's dominance of the GPU market, and while AMD's own chips are regularly used in some of the best graphics cards available, Nvidia has a big headstart when it comes to AI-based gaming tech.
