Overwatch 2’s 41st hero, Juno, is playable this weekend for a limited time, and fans have already unearthed a surprising bit of lore about the purple-haired space cadet healer and Mei. Overwatch is filled with voice lines that flesh out lore from its myriad of maps as well as relationships between heroes and villains. It’s just not every character’s ****** throw voice line would reveal a possible familial tie. Apparently, eliminating Mei as Juno triggers a voice-over exchange in which the Martian hero says, “Sorry, Auntie!” in response to Mei’s dying gasp. This tidbit of gameplay lore is significant not only in that it might confirm the hero shooter’s fourth familial tie among its heroes, but it also seems to debunk a key fan theory about Juno’s identity. AUNTIE?! [Hidden Content] — Hazelet (@HazeletOW) July 19, 2024 Juno and Jiayi Late last year, a r/Overwatch thread theorized that Juno—then known as Space Ranger—was a woman named Jiayi. According to the thread’s original poster, Mei had a new voice line that would trigger while at Lijiang Control Center, where she would reminisce over a friend named Jiaya, who she went to grad school with. Seeing as how this voice line cropped up a month prior to Juno’s reveal at Blizzcon 2023, fans quickly began theorizing that Jiayi was the government name for Juno. At the time, the theory seemed solid, considering Lijiang is the location of Overwatch 2’s in-universe ******** space station, and Juno’s whole gimmick is that she’s an astronaut hailing from Mars. This theory took on new life a day before Juno’s limited-time release when X/Twitter user Pampurins posited that Jiayi could actually be the name of Juno’s mother. Pampurin’s revised theory sounds like it's right on the money thanks to the newly discovered voice line interaction. JUNO ELIM LINE ON MEI! “(gasp) Sorry Auntie!” [Hidden Content] — Shroomiiee (@mushroomiiee) July 19, 2024 While the voice line appears to be considered hard proof that the two are aunt and niece, there’s also a high probability that it is also just a term of endearment, seeing as how the word aunt is commonly used to address older women. IGN has reached out to Blizzard for comment. Regardless, players will likely get an earful of the special voice line interaction during Juno’s weekend of play before her full release comes Season 12 on August 20. The wheel features a handcrafted carbon fiber shell keeping it rigid but lightweight. | Image: Sim-Lab Sim-Lab has just released a new $2,499 steering wheel it claims is an “authentic as possible” replica of the wheels Lewis Hamilton uses while driving the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s race cars. It’s a lovely piece of hardware to just stare at, but a reminder that getting really into simulators can be dangerous for your budget. If that price tag has your jaw on the floor, don’t bother picking it up. You can’t just plug the steering wheel into your PC and hit the simulated streets of Montreal. It needs to be attached to a wheelbase, which translates the steering wheel’s turning motions and button inputs to a racing game while also providing force feedback. Those can also set you back several thousand dollars, and one isn’t... Continue reading… View the full article

Starry Studio and NetEase Games’ Once Human has reached a major player milestone and is celebrating by teasing its first big update. The free-to-play open-world survival shooter managed to peak at more than 230,000 players on Steam since its launch earlier this month. It also appeared among the top five of the storefront’s Most Played list of games and is one of its Top Sellers. As the team at Starry enjoys its newfound successes, it’s looking to the horizon with an update that’s due out in September. [/url] Once Human players can look forward to a new PvP gameplay scenario that the team says features confrontations between the Mayflies and Rosetta. A PvE scenario is on the way as well, promising a new northern mountain region, monsters, and challenges. No specific release date has been revealed yet. Once Human released July 9 for PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and its official website, and has quickly gained interest from players thanks to its strange art style and bleak survival gameplay. When the September update arrives, it’ll add to its existing map, giving players even more post-apocalyptic landscapes to explore. Starry released its open-world nightmare only weeks ago but has already faced a few bumps in the road, including cheaters who were swiftly banned, named, and shamed. The studio also had to overcome server issues that cropped up due to its successful launch, which exceeded expectations. A few small hiccups haven't stopped Once Human from impressing PC gamers – and us. We called it “great” in our 8/10 review, where we said, “Once Human combines simple but solid building and upgrading with some of the best, and weirdest, creature designs of the year to create a very enjoyable survival-crafting experience.” For more, check our complete list of Once Human guides, which you can see below. A game’s physics system being directly tied to the FPS is not a new thing. However, it’s a rare occurrence in the world of live-service titles, and The First Descendant is the latest example where your FPS can help improve your damage output. First spotted by PC Guide, The First Descendant‘s servers might be wired in a particular way that allows individual machines to report to them faster than others, based on how well the game performs. Having higher FPS means your bullets will register faster on the server side, thus increasing your overall firerate and damage per second. YouTuber Rychews Games tested this theory on July 18 and found that ******* firerates are directly tied to the FPS with proportional calculations that show massive differences between low and high FPS. It turns out those numbers in the hundreds of thousands of dollars vying for the chance to game with Pokimane weren’t all that they seemed, as confirmed by the streamer and CDawgVA, whose charity auction is offering the session. Soon after the online bidding went live, bids for gaming sessions with streamers like Pokimane and Ironmouse skyrocketed into the hundreds of thousands, with Pokimane’s session racing to $500,000. Some of those bids seemed suspect, however, with names like Mark Cuban among the bidders, as well as usernames that contained hate speech and slurs. On July 15, CDawgVA confirmed that many of the sky-high bids were false bids via stolen credit cards and fake email accounts. “There’s nothing sadder you can fake in life than donating money to charity,” an understandably ******* CDawg said. Jaw Drop Games has shown off its impressive array of dinosaurs for the upcoming survival-horror game Deathground. This is the latest dinosaur glimpse for the title, which previously revealed that it would feature more scientifically accurate feathered dinosaurs rather than the more purely reptilian types seen in other media like the Jurassic Park movies or the Dino Crisis games of the '90s and 2000s. While some may argue that the idea of a "six-foot turkey" may not seem intimidating, the studio is setting out to convince players otherwise. View the full article
