Redfall's final update, which was announced following Microsoft's closure of developer Arkane Austin, is here, adding a myriad of quality-of-life overhauls to the game, such as an offline mode, DLSS3, and single-player pausing. The details of Redfall Game Update 4 were unveiled in a Bethesda blog post today, including a ranking system called Community Standing, which is among the new features in the game’s Neighborhood system. Community Standing, as the blog post describes, is a rank-based reputation that rewards players with unique permanent buffs upon completing a Safehouse mission, rescuing civilians, and defeating an Underboss. Redfall famously experienced a disastrous launch, which saw players voice their frustrations with the vampiric looter shooter's underwhelming co-op missions, banal story, and buggy gameplay. Redfall’s negative reception from critics and players alike ultimately resulted in Xbox boss Phil Spencer taking full responsibility for the game's ******** to meet players’ expectations. The studio head of Valorant has detailed new disciplinary policies for players who engage in hateful speech online, including hardware bans for the game’s “worst offenders”. I'm told war never changes, but its popularity certainly fluctuates—and sometimes it spikes, if you can leverage the power of Walton Goggins. In an interview with Variety, Todd Howard said the Fallout games are enjoying a swell of player attention thanks to the Amazon TV series. "Depending on the Fallout game, you're looking at a 4-6x increase in daily players," Howard said, "which is beyond anything I've ever seen in my 30 years of doing this." According to Variety, daily player counts for the Fallout games have been skyrocketing to over 5 million players since the premiere of the Amazon series in April. Fallout 76, in particular, is seeing a sharp player increase as millions of fresh vault dweller faces emerge to walk the country roads. While Howard says it's "kind of been sneaky popular for a while," Variety says Fallout 76 now has more than 20 million players, up from 17 million in December. Fallout's the latest sign that we're firmly in a new era for games adaptations, echoing the well-documented phenomenon of the Netflix bump. The Cyberpunk anime brought higher Cyberpunk 2077 player counts in 2022, Arcane caused an almost 50% increase in League of Legends players in 2021, and the Witcher show helped the Witcher 3 break 100,000 concurrent players on Steam—more than were playing at its release. Now it feels just as likely that a videogame series will be so popular that it'll reach beyond existing fans and ignite new passion for the games. Developer Arrowhead Studios made its will known to all players today, commemorating the “Enduring Peace” movement with a special video that calls for an end to Meridia’s Terminid Supercolony. The message notes that the planet’s destruction will be “a tragedy” but says that the Terminid invasion leaves Super Earth no choice. The Major Order’s in-game description (captured and shared by @HelldiversAlert on X/Twitter) offers more insight into how the war will progress. “We must seize this opportunity to ******** the Terminid Supercolony. Helldivers all across the planet will deploy with a limited supply of the exotic matter known as Dark Fluid, and insert it at critical points in the planet’s crust,” the Enduring Peace Major Order says. Teruki Endo could very well be the Lisan al Gaib - at least when it comes to building combat systems.
