  4. Enlarge / After nearly four years of the PS5, a lot of people are still using their old PS4s. (credit: Sony) [/url] If you're still getting use out of your aging PS4 after nearly four full years of PS5 availability, new data from Sony shows you are far from alone. The ********* electronics giant says that both the PS4 and PS5 currently have about 49 million monthly active users, suggesting a significant number of PlayStation players have yet to spend $400 or more to upgrade to the newer console. The new data comes from an extensive Game & Network Services report presented as part of Sony's most recent Business Segment Meeting. Those numbers suggest that about 42 percent of the 117 million PS4 units ever sold are still in active use, compared to 86 percent of the 56 million PS5 units sold thus far. Despite the parity in active consoles, Sony also points out that the PS5 is responsible for significantly more gameplay hours than the PS4: 2.4 billion for the new system compared to 1.4 billion for its predecessor (it's unclear what time ******* this comparison covers). Sony's monthly user numbers also include any console "used to play games or [access] services on the PlayStation Network," so an old PS4 that serves as a convenient Netflix box in the spare bedroom would still inflate the older system's numbers here. 10. So, there's a Minecraft live-action movie (somehow) coming to cinemas next year. But, check this out, now we've also learned that Netflix and Mojang are working alongside WildBrain (Sonic Prime) on an original animated series. As the gaming-related TV and movie hits keep piling up, Hollywood continues to double down on the interactive medium as the next source of cool stories with mainstream appeal, since comic book adaptations aren't super safe bets anymore. Of course, we all know it comes down to quality and market saturation (or lack of), but hey, corporations love their trend-surfing, so let them try whatever. The small teaser, creeper included, arrived on May 30 via Netflix and Minecraft's social media channels, and while a release window wasn't shared, the traditional 'coming soon' outro is present in the announcement, suggesting it may be releasing on the platform sooner rather than later. 24. Not many moviegoers remember that a 'legacy' sequel to The Exorcist came out last year, and it's not surprising, considering Believer only made $136 million worldwide; a respectable number for a horror flick, but not for The Exorcist IP, especially after spending $400 million on acquiring the rights. It also was panned by most critics and horror aficionados. Blumhouse is well aware of how hard it fumbled the bag, as it has now scrapped the sequel trilogy plans and gone to horror maestro Mike Flanagan asking for help. Via Deadline, the announcement came on May 29, with Flanagan himself also confirming the news on social media. According to the filmmaker, his approach for the long-running (and mostly disappointing) movie series will be "fresh, bold, and terrifying." If anyone can nail that at this point, it's probably him. Blumhouse honcho Jason Blum, the man who enlisted David Gordon Green in the first place to tackle a new riff on The Exorcist after his so-so Halloween trilogy, expressed his excitement: "Mike’s voice and vision are indispensable for horror fans and we are excited to welcome him back to Blumhouse. I immediately responded to Mike’s new take on the world of The Exorcist and can’t wait for audiences to experience it." Chances are he made the right call (or at least a far better one) this time around. Read more View the full article
