Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment Sony’s most adorable character (sorry, Sackboy) is getting another outing. At its State of Play showcase today, the company revealed the latest Astro **** game, which was rumored earlier in the month. It appears to be a direct sequel to Astro’s Playroom, so it should make excellent use of the PS5’s controller and all of its various functions. The game features 50 worlds to explore — like its predecessor, it looks like those levels will explore PlayStation history to varying degrees — and launches on September 6th. It’ll be a PS5 when it does come out. This will be the first title in the series since Astro’s Playroom, a Wii Sports-style pack-in for the PlayStation 5, which was designed to show off the console’s then-new DualSense... Today’s PlayStation State of Play (May 30, 2024) has been a rather fruitful one, and for those who are anything like me - a complete nut for anything and everything Silent Hill - there’s good (or bad) news. Konami’s attempt at a grand Silent Hill reboot is continuing to come to fruition, with the Silent Hill 2 remake finally being given a release date of October 8. While that isn’t the September 24 release date I desperately hoped for, as a ******* for reboots/remakes/sequels releasing on game anniversaries (Silent Hill 2 first released on September 24, 2001), I’m glad that we’ll be seeing this game in the coming months. Given the recent trailers and teasers we’ve seen from Konami (that combat one didn’t give us much hope, really), and fresh developer, Bloober Team, I wasn't too sure what to expect next. During the brief trailer shown off during State of Play, we got a good look at at the environment, James and Angela, a little more combat, and most importantly, a good look at the monsters of Silent Hill. We saw the iconic nurses and abstract daddies, but there's still no sign of Pyramid Head just yet. I had hoped the environment would look a little more grisly, but hey, we'll see what the atmosphere is really like on October 8. Read more View the full article

During its summer State of Play event, Sony announced that **** of War Ragnarök is coming to PC on September 19th. The news was accompanied by a brand-new trailer including the info that the game is now available for preorder. It’s been just over a year since **** of War Ragnarök released, adding another emotional beat to the story of Kratos, the **** of war, and his son, Atreus. When we last left the pair in 2018’s **** of War, the two had just returned from an epic journey to disperse Atreus’ mother’s ashes from the highest peak in the nine realms. In Ragnarök, Kratos and Atreus’ lives have been upended by the omens heralding the destruction of the realms, an event that... Continue reading… View the full article
We got to see around ten minutes of in-engine footage, captured on PS5. The footage started out with an animated short, which gave us a fairly decent idea of what to expect. There are five characters at the centre of it, also acting as classes we can choose form (though many more exist). Much more of that was made clear in the gameplay footage that followed. In short? It's a 5v5 hero shooter with unique characters, though Firewalk did say there's an emphasis on asymetry among its heroes. The game will have its public beta in July, with pre-orders starting June 6. The stick layout almost reminds me a bit of the Steam Deck. | Image: Scuf Corsair-owned Scuf is best known for its vividly ********, outlandishly priced esports controllers. But its new $99.99 mobile phone controller looks built more for the normies. The Nomad is a clamp-style iPhone controller akin to a Backbone or Razer Kishi, though it features full-size, drift-free Hall effect sticks (with swappable stick toppers) that are symmetrical on the top half of the pad. Around back are two customizable rear paddles amidst the controller’s contoured and rubberized grips. If you squint, it looks a bit like a thick-boy version of the Backbone One, though the Nomad is compatible with more phone cases since it relies on Bluetooth for connectivity instead of a protruding USB-C or Lightning plug. Since its release almost 10 years ago, The Sims 4 has been essentially free of timed content, with expansion packs and free additions being obtainable at any point after release. However, that's changing in a new update that brings a battle pass-style feature to the game's main menu, and fans aren't happy. Today, EA revealed its plan for Events in a blog post, describing each event as a "limited time experience, centered around a fun theme, with free rewards or gameplay that adds new opportunities to your game." Come for the vending machine, leave with a brand-new trait! Events are here in The Sims 4 as limited time experiences with free rewards that adds new opportunities to your game. Discover more: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — The Sims (@TheSims) May 30, 2024 Each Event is free and offers 8 rewards over the course of 4 weeks, with new rewards being made available each week. This format requires players to launch the game on at least different 8 days to claim every reward. The first event, titled The Sims 4 Happy at Home Login Event, will become available for all players by June 13 and introduces several furniture items, a few new Sim accessories, and, most notably, a vending machine and a new trait called Practice Makes Perfect. The blog post clarifies that each event will end in an extra week where players can claim rewards they missed. Still, claiming each reward requires extra commitment, and fans haven't been happy about it, with many taking to Twitter/X to share their disappointment. TIMED EVENTS IN THE SIMS 4??? ***** off. no. ur turning this game into a mobile game, this is NOT what we wanted. listen, i hate when people say this, but WHO TF ASKED FOR THIS??? ***** all the way off with this *********. (pics from simscommunity) [Hidden Content] — OakieDokie (@OakSimStudios) May 28, 2024 This isn’t it. Players log into games often when they offer engaging GAMEPLAY. The Sims used to do well with 2 EPs a year- they that kept players busy for months. Lately packs can’t hold simmers attentions for 2 days before they start asking for the next one. see the issue? [Hidden Content] — AnotherPlumbob (@AnotherPlumbob) May 30, 2024 Other players, including some responding to a post on Reddit, complained about the game's ongoing bugginess seemingly being ignored to focus on Events. Others speculated that EA was setting up microtransactions for Project Rene. "It's clear that this is the way EA are wanting to take the franchise. It's a shame that EA, a multi-billion dollar company, feels the need to create multiple broken DLC for a high price then think 'nah, we can still make more money,'" a user wrote. "We deserve better than re-******** items from other packs just so the data shows that player numbers are going up. I wish we were given genuine, original free content or better yet, focus on fixing the ***** game instead of modders doing it. Things aren't looking good for the future of the Sims franchise." EA previously confirmed that Project Rene, which most fans are calling The Sims 5, will be free-to-play when it's eventually released. We gave The Sims 4 a 7.5 in our original review, calling it "a good start to what may eventually be expanded into a great Sims game." Since then, it's received a notable number of expansions and smaller patches, the most recent of which have added vitiligo, ******* orientation, and pronoun options for Sims. In the realm of most anticipated sequels, there are probably not many who would put a follow-up to a niche 2013 early-access indie PC game called Kenshi 2 high up on their list.
