A rather strange Steam Deck bug has appeared in Elden Ring ahead of the new Shadow the Erdtree DLC launch. If you leave the game idle for more than five minutes, all inputs may suddenly fail to register, and only a full game reboot will fix the problem. From Software is aware of the bug and is working on a fix. Ahead of the Shadow of the Erdtree release date, the original game of Elden Ring is still one of the most popular games on the Steam Deck, which itself is one of the best handheld gaming PCs. Gamers are still in awe that the massive open world runs so well on Valve's portable, but it's not unusual for bugs like this to rear their ugly heads from time to time. Read the rest of the story... AMD's recently announced Ryzen 9000 desktop and AI 300 laptop CPUs have both just had their exact release date leaked by a combination of retailers who accidentally showed the new products too early, and it looks like we won't have long to wait. Both types of new AMD Zen 5 CPU will be arriving in July 2024. The AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs, which are based on the new AMD Zen 5 CPU architecture are expected to deliver solid gains in performance, although AMD itself has admitted that its existing X3D CPUs will still be the very best gaming CPUs for the time being. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super is currently going for the lowest price we've ever seen, with this latest graphics card deal on Newegg pricing the top-end GPU at just $949.99. That's a $50 drop on the usual MSRP, and it's a good $250 cheaper than the original (and slower) RTX 4080 when it first came out. The RTX 4080 Super is our favorite sub-$1,000 gaming GPU right now, earning it a coveted place on our guide to the best graphics card. Its launch earlier this year saw Nvidia effectively acknowledging that the original RTX 4080 offered poor value for money, and that it needed a cheaper and faster high-end chip in this price bracket. No competitive multiplayer game has perfect balance, but some had notoriously broken eras that players still shudder to think of. In a June 20 Reddit thread, players reminisced and debated some of the worst and most unfair metas of various popular games through the years. There are some smaller shoutouts in there to things like Smite‘s Gauntlet of Thebes metagame that made every character frustratingly tanky or the Pokemon VGC‘s Smeargle meta when it was impossible to avoid every ‘mon on your team being put to sleep with Darkrai’s signature Dark Void move. Some stood above the rest as the most loathsome and notorious metas. View the full article

Fanatical is selling the PC (Steam) version of Shadow of the Erdtree for $35.19 (about $5 off) as well as a digital bundle with the base game for $70.39 (about $9 off / $30 cheaper than buying them separately at full price). Purchasing either option through Fanatical nets you an emailed code to redeem on Steam. These prices are slightly better than similar discounts out there from fellow third-party retailers like CDKeys and Eneba,... Continue reading… View the full article

It feels like every week there's news about a studio being shut down, developers being ***** off, or a game being canceled or delayed. People often look to indie games and fan projects for hope, but even those aren't immune to the trials and tribulations of the gaming industry. Fallout London recently got indefinitely delayed due to a new patch for Fallout 4, and the latest game to get hit with the bad news is a huge Fallout New Vegas mod, Fallout: Nuevo Mexico. As survival games like Enshourded become more popular, the market can be oversaturated with many survival games that don’t stand out. However, it seems that Aska is trying to break the mold. Let’s see if that’s true with our early impression review for Aska.More than meets the eyeI have a love-hate relationship with survival-based games. On one side, I love games like Palworld in which I create things and then I get my Pals to do everything after that. On the flip side of hating the genre, games like Valheim overwhelm me by giving me little direction and all the freedom at the start, and it can be a slow time taking off if it’s just one person. In the curious case of Aska, it’s a little bit of both but balanced out. You’ll have to grind, especially during the starting hours, but when you get more villagers, things tend to get easier. Image: Sand Sailor StudioThe first thing I want to point out in this early impression review is that the survival tag for...View the full article
The good thing about Aska is that it’s a lot like Palworld in terms of performance. It’s not graphically demanding. While you may be able to run the game, knowing the best graphics settings, frame rate, quality, and more can make Aska more enjoyable. Aska: Best graphics settings – Frame rate, quality, and moreAs I started Aska, I tested to see if the best settings in Palworld would work. They kind of do, but Aska has a little more graphical complexity to it. Plus, as you get more villagers and grow your base, the performance may be impacted. Before we figure out what the best settings are for Aska, let’s see if you can run the game with the specifications detailed by Sand Sailor Studio. As of writing this, we only have the minimum requirements.OS: 64-bit.Processor: Intel Core i5 6600, or AMD Ryzen 5 1600.Memory: 16 GB of RAM.Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 1660 with 6 GB of VRAM or an AMD RX 590.6 GB of space for the game.Based o...View the full article
Skate Story is currently my most anticipated indie game. Having played around 45-minutes of it at Summer Game Fest 2024, in a small dark room installed in sunny California, it matched every expectation I had for it. Scratch that, it surpassed them, leaping over my initial hopes for the title with a little kickflip, leaving me genuinely astounded. Skating fan or not, it's a game you absolutely have to have on your radar. It has been on my own radar ever since its reveal during Devolver's digital showcase in 2022. Its striking visuals and otherworldly soundtrack captivated me. It looked to be a game attempting to capture the spirit of skate videos in a mythical, post-modern box. But how that game actually played, whether that trailer magic transferred well to a tangible play experience, was a mystery. Devolver Digital, after all, is a master of presentation, of nurturing a particular style of cool subversive game and presenting it in a funny, earnest package. Tempting to video game lovers like MSG is to the *******. My discovery that Skate Story is astounding was like building a dream PC and booting it for the first time, cheers escaping your mouth as all the lights turn on like they should. Whoever signed the game at Devolver must have felt like they found ******* treasure. And they may have actually done so. Read more View the full article

While only a handful of Qualcomm X Elite series laptops have made their way into the hands of reviewers and customers, the early indication is that the 3D gaming performance isn't as revolutionary as expected, leaving the door open for AMD's Strix Point and Intel's Lunar Lake processors. The wait for The Batman 2 is going to be a long one, especially after that last delay, but thankfully, fans of Matt Reeves' take on the iconic DC character and Gotham City will soon be able to watch a show centered on Colin Farrell's Penguin that will bridge the gap between the two Batman movies. We'd already seen a first teaser and learned the series would premiere in September, so this new trailer that dropped on June 20 isn't the most informative. Regardless, the show does continue to look great. Folks, including many who are getting tired of the usual comic book stories flooding our screens, are rightfully pointing out the huge Soprano vibes covering this entire project, and that could very well be the key to making it yet another hit for Max. Elden Ring's big pre-Shadow of the Erdtree patch dropped this morning, and there's one addition it includes that people - no doubt already giddy with anticipation for the expansion - can't get enough of. You can ride your favourite horse into the Elden ******. Just let that last line sink in a minute. Not only has FromSoft made a DLC that's already taken the metascore crown among both games released in 2024 and DLCs released ever, and put out another trailer for you to take in, it's made it possible to bring an animal buddy along for a bit of help once you've slapped up Radagon. In the notes for patch 1.12, this momentous change is expressed in the following terms: "Added new feature to summon spectral steed during the Elden ****** the boss battle." Quite frankly, that's not spelling out just how cool something is in traditional FromSoft fashion. Read more View the full article
