The 2XKO alpha lab test is well underway, and as expected players are digging into it and uncovering all manner of ****** combos and dastardly tech. However, through this journey of twitter-clip exploration a question has risen to the top of the general 2XKO discussion. Are overly-long combos any fun, and should they have a home in 2XKO? By overly-long, I'm referring to those eye-watering combos that weave between characters, sometimes linking multiple supers together, that leaves the victim locked into a ******* of helplessness as their oppoent styles on then for ages. For some, this ability to pull off 15+ second combos is where the juice is, where all expression of mastery can be found. For others, being able to take your hands of your controller and check Twitter mid-match isn't exactly riveting. This debate is playing out online. On one side, thsoe who feel these long periods of essentially downtime aren't great for the game. Game developer Keits from Iron Galaxy brought in his own research, which found that 6-8 seconds of downtime is where frustration starts to bubble up. Whereas, others like influencer Cosmonaut Marcus have spoken up about how fundamental overcoming this feeling is to the fighting game experience. The idea that you're meant to lose a lot, for a while, and pushing through that feeling is how fighting games become rewarding. Read more View the full article

He presumably wished to tackle the previous world record set by ****** Gardner in late 1963, who didn’t sleep for 264 hours and 24 minutes. View the full article
The PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter, and everything that plugs into it. | Photo by Sean Hollister / The Verge The biggest problem with Sony’s PSVR 2 virtual reality headset is the dearth of games. I’d hoped Sony’s PC adapter would change that. The chance to play Half-Life: Alyx, the best VR game made yet, seemed like reason enough for existing owners to justify the $60 adapter purchase. But I can’t currently recommend Sony’s PC adapter. If I had purchased it with my own money, rather than borrowing one from Sony, I’d have asked for a refund long before now. It’s a shame, because the $550 PSVR 2 is still a good headset, with image quality that arguably beats the newer $500 Meta Quest 3. Playing Half-Life: Alyx inside Sony’s headset isn’t just more vibrant thanks to the richer colors of its OLED screen; it’s more thrilling, too, with the panel’s... Valve’s worst-kept secret, Deadlock, is already running ahead of 200,000 total players, suggests reputable Source dataminer Gabe Follower. The game is also seeing impressive concurrent player numbers for something that doesn’t officially exist and is slowly making its way to high spots on Steam’s charts. Gabe Follower posted a screenshot of the SteamDB page for Deadlock, an unannounced in-development MOBA created by Valve. As of the evening of Aug. 11, nearly 17,000 concurrent players were in the game. He added that the game already has over 200,000 players and aims to break the 20,000 concurrent player number. This boost in player numbers can be attributed to Valve’s recent decision to relax the invitation process, allowing players to bring anyone on their Steam friends list aboard. View the full article

Last week, Bethesda released a remastered edition of ***** and ***** II on Steam, with lots of extra episodes and improvements. One of these new features is a built-in browser for mods, and support for many existing mods that previously required a different version of the game. Basically, lots of good fan-made mods are now playable on the Steam version of ye olde *****. That's neat! Ah, but there is some ****** ********** on the health pack, so to speak. The mod browser lacks moderation and lets people upload the work of others with their own name pinned as the author. With such a long gap between Dragon Age: Inquisition and Veilguard, there was always the worry the two might be unrelated, but BioWare was always sure they would be. It's been a bit of a weird 10 years for BioWare. Following the strong reception of Dragon Age: Inquisition, it's only managed to put out two games, the critically lukewarm Mass Effect: Andromeda, and the even-worse rated Anthem. That second one is likely more the fault of a top-down push for live-service games, considering how much of a push there was for them in the late 2010s. And now, sometime this year, the beloved developer is finally releasing a new Dragon Age game, The Veilguard. So it's pretty understandable if you as a fan are a bit worried about it, particularly as to whether or not the sequel would pick up where Inquisition and its DLC left off. Thankfully, in an interview with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), director John Epler made it clear that The Veilguard was always going to continue the story Inquisition setup. "The world exists as it does because of Solas," Epler said. "He shaped the world because of the kind of character he was. That's, to me, what makes Dragon Age so interesting. Everything can tie back to a person who to some degree thought they were doing the right thing." Read more View the full article
