  1. Now is a great time to make the leap to a super-fast SSD, as you can currently save a massive $85 on the 1TB Crucial T705, thanks to this Amazon SSD deal. This drive uses the PCIe 5.0 interface, and can run at blazingly fast speeds, which is why it usually demands a hefty $239.99 premium. At the moment, though, you can grab it for just $154.99, saving you 35% on the MSRP. If speed is your top priority, the Crucial T705 is the best SSD for gaming you can buy right now, with sequential read and write performance that doubles the speeds of some PCIe 4.0 drives. However, while this drive will run in any motherboard's spare NVMe M.2 2280 slot, you'll need to make sure your slot supports the 4x PCIe 5.0 interface in order to get the fastest speeds possible from this drive. 2. Overwatch 2 has had a very rough time. The sequel to what was once one of the most popular FPS games in the world, Blizzard's hero shooter has faced constant criticism for a variety of reasons. For some, it was a ********** and unnecessary follow up, a weaker version of Overwatch that eliminated what made the original game so great. For others, the removal of loot boxes in favor of a battle pass, and the cancelation of Overwatch 2 PvE have been understandable sore points. For a time, Overwatch 2 was the worst-rated game on Steam. But it's just made a significant, if subtle, comeback. Read the rest of the story... 4. I am, unfortunately, a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to videogames—especially ones like Stalker. 5. The Casting of Frank Stone is the ultimate narrative-based adventure for fans of the ***** by Daylight franchise, or those who can’t get enough of Supermassive Games’ horrific endeavours. It wears its influences on its sleeve and isn’t afraid to have fun, as Supermassive’s past projects — Until Dawn, The Quarry, The Dark Pictures Anthology — have shown us already. It’s a short, entertaining romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and while I think its best moments will be lost on those who aren’t familiar with ***** by Daylight, The Casting of Frank Stone goes to show that Supermassive Games is, continually, going from strength to strength. It’s about time that Behaviour Interactive decided to expand on ***** by Daylight’s lore — beyond Hooked On You: A ***** by Daylight Dating Simulator we received in 2022 — and I was overjoyed to see that Behaviour had chosen Supermassive Games to be the developer to do so. 6. I was looking forward to Supermassive taking its refined horror narrative chops to The Casting of Frank Stone, a tale strongly inspired by Behaviour Interactive’s ***** by Daylight universe. The result is messier than I expected, though. Much of my experience in Frank Stone wasn’t scary, and the only thing that hooked me was my curiosity to find out how everything comes together at the end. Frank Stone is rough around the edges. It’s entertaining, but Supermassive proved itself a stronger storyteller in previous games. The studio might feel weighed down because it’s trying to tie everything back to the ***** by Daylight universe, and can’t help but consistently remind you throughout the story. Still, the game needs more polish and is tough to enjoy when there are bumps in the road. The making of Frank Stone Movie magic. Image via Behaviour Interactive We can’t discuss Frank Stone’s plot in too much depth, but timelines are an important aspect of the story. The game begins in 1963, and we’re introduced to serial ******* Frank Stone and Cedar Hills officer Sam Green. Sam takes down Frank at the town’s mill and saves a baby. After that, most of the game is split between two parallel storylines in 1980 and 2024. View the full article

  9. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League turned out to be a huge flop, and now, the developer behind the game, Rocksteady Studios, has reportedly been hit by layoffs. According to Eurogamer on Sept. 2, Rocksteady staff said the studio is laying off staff following the underperformance of ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League. 12. Jyamma Games has indefinitely delayed the release of its Soulslike Enotria: The Last Song on Xbox because Microsoft "decided to ignore" it. As reported by Windows Central, Jyamma Games announced the delay just two weeks ahead of Enotria's September 19, 2024 release date, and PlayStation 5 and PC versions will go ahead. The harshest words came in Discord posts following the reveal, with Jyamma CEO Jacky Greco saying "obviously they don't care about Enotria and they don't care about you." Greco said Jyamma has Xbox Series X and S versions of the game ready to go but hasn't received support to actually release them on the platforms for two months. IGN has asked Microsoft for comment. Obviously they don't care about Enotria and they don't care about you. "Despite our best efforts and the hard work of our dedicated team, we’ve encountered challenges that have delayed our release on the Xbox platform," Jyamma said in the delay announcement. "We apologize for any disappointment this may cause and sincerely thank you for your understanding and patience. As a self-published indie studio, your support means everything to us, and we are dedicated to bringing Enotria to as many players as possible." It didn't explicitly blame Microsoft until fans started asking questions on the official Discord, at which point Greco didn't hold back. "You can ask Xbox why they haven't answered us for two months," they said in response to one fan complaint. "Obviously they don't care about Enotria and they don't care about you." Another asked for context on this, to which Greco replied: "The context is, open a store page and submission. We've Xbox Series X and S versions ready but we can't proceed with submission and release. I spent a lot of money for porting and they decided to ignore us." Development on Enotria seems to have otherwise gone relatively smoothly, though a short delay did push it from August 21 to the September 19 release date. This announcement was accompanied by the release of an eight hour demo, however, available to all PS5 and PC players. "Enotria: The Last Song is a Soulslike set in a beautiful sun-lit world inspired by Italian folklore where the brightest sun casts the darkest shadow," reads the official synopsis. "Wear unique role-altering masks, face formidable foes, and alter reality with the power of Ardore to unravel the secrets of Enotria." Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. 14. This is definitely a volatile time for Risk of Rain lovers. The new DLC for Risk of Rain 2, which represents the first launch in the series since it was taken over by Gearbox, has been roundly criticized. Now, the founders of Hopoo, the studio behind the first Risk of Rain and the base game and first DLC for RoR 2, have announced that they are shuttering the studio, canceling what would have been Hopoo's next game, and joining Valve, which has just launched Deadlock and is currently rumored, more strongly than usual, to be working on Half-Life 3. Both of the Hopoo founders confirm they are joining Valve to work in game development, so perhaps something new and exciting is afoot. Read the rest of the story... 15. Hopoo Games, the studio who made chewy roguelike Risk Of Rain and its moreish 3D sequel Risk Of Rain 2, are shutting up shop and taking jobs at Valve. Instead, the studio co-founders Paul Morse and Duncan Drummond (plus "many other talented members") are taking up game development roles with the Steam owners. Read more View the full article
  16. The producer of Lollipop Chainsaw RePop has detailed the changes made to the game’s Original Mode. The upcoming remaster will feature two modes – an Original Mode which is said to play like the 2012 version released on Xbox 360 and PS3, and a new RePop mode which is less violent and will feature pop-art damage effects. After it emerged that the Original Mode won’t be entirely untouched, Dragami Games founder and the game’s producer Yoshimi Yasuda took to X in an attempt to reassure players that the changes made won’t amount to censorship. 17. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is slowly making progress, and one step it hopes to put forward is by bringing Ian McKellen aboard. Earlier this year, in Hollywood's quest to infinitely capitalise upon pre-existing IP even if maybe we should just leave things alone sometimes, it was announced that a new Lord of the Rings film is on the way, very specifically about, uh, Gollum. A new Lord of the Rings film isn't all that surprising, though the choice of focus might be, but apparently both Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson have been thinking about it for quite a while. Of course, not much has been confirmed about the film just yet, including casting, but according to everyone's favourite version of Gandalf himself, Ian McKellen, the actor has actually been approached to reprise the role. Speaking with the Big Issue (via BBC News), McKellen noted that "Enthusiasm for The Lord of the Rings shows no sign of abating." He continued, "I can't tell you any more than that. I've just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I'll be playing him. When? I don't know. What the script is? It's not written yet. So, they better be quick." Speaking to the BBC, he did also make it clear that he's "not letting anyone else put on the pointy hat and beard if I can help it." Read more View the full article
  18. Star Wars Outlaws has made a brand out of being the first open-world Star Wars game, but despite that claim, it's an experience that's familiar in many ways. Even setting aside the saturation of Star Wars content since Disney's acquisition of IP, every big new game from publisher Ubisoft carries over some formulaic elements, whether in the consistent monotony of the Far Cry series or simply in fundamentals of structure. It's not exclusive to Ubisoft a lot of companies have taken on similar formulas but it's hard to deny how obvious the through line is. View the full article
  19. The developers of Enotria: The Last Song, an Italian soulslike that's set to release later this month, have announced that the Xbox version of the game has been delayed indefinitely. Why? Well, according to its studio Jyamma Games, a "lack of communication" from the Xbox side is the cause of the hold-up. Pushed back earlier this year, likely so it didn't drop right around the same time as Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which was obviously the right call, Enotia's now arriving on September 19 and had looked like it'd be on Xbox at launch, despite some uncertainty in thar regard prior to the September date being locked in. However, it'll now only be doing so on PC and PS5. "Unfortunately, at this time, we have to announce an indefinite delay of the Xbox version," Jyamma Games revealed in a statement on the game's website, "We understand how disappointing this news is to the Xbox community. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and the hard work of our dedicated team, we’ve encountered challenges that have delayed our release on the Xbox platform. We want to emphasize that this is not a decision we’ve made lightly." Read more View the full article

  25. While it's not set in stone just yet, it's sounding like Josh Brolin has been offered a role in DC Studios' Green Lanterns show as Hal Jordan. We've had a couple of tastes at what James Gunn is cooking with the new DCU, through Superman set photos and a teaser trailer for the upcoming Creature Commandos, but for the majority of projects in the works there's not too much set in stone. Earlier this year, Lost creator Damon Lindelof, Ozark showrunner, and comic book writer Tom King joined Lanterns as writers, but it was obviously still too early to get any sort of idea around casting. Now, though, in a report from Nexus Point News it appears that at the very least the casting process is underway, as Thanos and Cable himself Josh Brolin has apparently been offered the role of Hal Jordan. Important to note is that he supposedly hasn't accepted the role just yet, so he might not end up joining the series. According to Nexus Point News, this version of Hal Jordan would be something of a Lantern legend and veteran member of the corps. This lines up with what has previously been reported - the show is expected to follow an older Hal Jordan, and a younger, newer member of the Corps, John Stewart (who's also a fan favourite of those that grew up on the Justice League animated series), with the logline explaining: "two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a ******* in the ********* heartland."
