If you love a bit of cheeky drama between game companies, a little bit of cross-corporate banter, then today is a good day! Alchemy Stars, a popular Level Infinite gacha game, has sent out an in-game mail that subtly points to some interesting comparisons to characters featured in HoYoVerse's Zenless Zone Zero. On July 4, the release date of Zenless Zone Zero, all players of Alchemy Stars recived an in-game mail written by a character called Tiny One, who states that she was asked to email the player by another character called Sinsa. These two characters are important to this little poke, as they look a little bit like a pair of Zenless Zone Zero characters: Koleda and Anton respectively. To help convey these percieved similarities, we've included two images created by Reddit user PisangMinyakRebus below, so you can make your own mind up on the matter. Read more View the full article

You remember The Witcher 3's horse races? You know, the ones you definitely didn't fail a couple of times by getting stuck on a pole, tree, or low fence trying to cheekily cut a corner. Well, CD Projekt actually cut a number of boat races along the same lines from the game's final release, and a modder's now managed to restore them. How? Well, with a bit of help from the game's still relatively new REDkit modding tool, which gives folks access to a lot of the same stuff the studio originally used to create the game itself. With the mod in question, which is matter-of-factly called 'Boat Races', modder MerseyRockoff has ressurected the boat races that were originally worked on and planned out by CD Projekt during TW3's development, but unlike the horse races and bare-knuckle brawls we know and love, didn't make it into the final release. The First Descendant, Nexon’s latest entry ticket into the sci-fi looter shooter sphere, is already seeing waves of negativity due to the game’s monetization system. The free-to-play title has been compared to Warframe, only “20 times more expensive.” Initial reactions to the game post-launch came from Steam where 50 percent of the player base wouldn’t recommend the game. This put Nexon’s shooter into the “Mixed” category, with most reviews criticizing the company for implementing aggressive and immensely expensive microtransactions into the game. One top negative review on Valve’s storefront claimed The First Descendant has an “extremely predatory monetization scheme,” while another advised players to “keep the wallet away” when playing it. Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge From the Boox Palma to the Light Phone 2, it seems that everyone is looking for distraction-free reading, if only they had the right device. I don’t blame them: every time I pull out my phone to mindlessly scroll, I know my time could be put to better use. But as the owner of many fine gadgets, I also don’t really want another device in my life, so I was pretty excited to stumble upon a partial solution with a gadget I already have: the Playdate. Yes, I’m talking about that little yellow Game Boy from Panic and Teenage Engineering, the one with a crank jutting out of its side. Since the launch of its on-device store, Catalog, the handheld has become home to quite a range of experiences. I’ve been playing tiny city builders and dungeon... I'm not sure if this applies in other countries, but in England we have this thing where you'll stroll down some random suburban street without a care in the world, and stumble on a house that has been absolutely overrun by garden gnomes. A house on which garden gnomes have either settled, like the avian hoodlums in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, or from which they have erupted, like the malignant mushrooms of Annihilation. A hundred clay and plaster eyes catch yours, unblinking; a hundred figures seemingly freeze in the act of pushing a toy wheelbarrow or smoking a pipe. The tune you were whistling ***** in your throat as you hurry past into the reassuring shadow of the relatively gnomeless bungalows to either side. Gardening sim Horticular is like that, but with an even greater sense of contrast, because it asks you to resettle a desolate planet. There is no generic urban scenery to hurry onto, here. There is only bare, cracked earth. And the gnomes. Read more View the full article
Capcom have announced that there will be no further new live service content seasons for Exoprimal, the rad dino-slaying co-op shooter which everybody adored except for stinky RPS reviewer Edders, who branded it "dull repetition for most" and castigated the game for its "baffling disrespect for one's time". Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is the latest in a long line of remasters Nintendo is pumping out just because it can—not because anyone is crying out for it. The 2013 3DS original (titled Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon in the US) was a solid action adventure, but by no means a classic by Nintendo’s standards. And over a decade later, it feels pretty ordinary and a little out of place on the Switch. While this is certainly a polished, high-quality remaster that greatly enhances the look and feel of the original, it fails to shed the weight of having been designed for far inferior hardware. Moreover, some of the original’s most obvious and easily fixable flaws have been inexplicably retained. View the full article

Helping Officer Mewmew is already difficult enough without localization errors thrown into the mix. But if you truly want to complete the Chivalrous Medal challenges, you must figure out what 404 Error Live House means in Zenless Zone Zero. For one specific medal, you must locate two Bangboo chatting behind the “404 Error Live House”, a location that, despite ZZZ‘s tendency to ***** technobabble at you, does not exist. If you ever feel like too many games slot too neatly into one category - this one's a platformer, this one's an RPG, this one's a city builder - it's because combining tropes and layering mechanics on top of one another is riskier than just making a straight genre piece. We know what an FPS is. But an FPS mixed with time travel, immersive sims, stealth games, and a roguelike? That's trickier. Nevertheless, it's these genre mashups that are normally the most compelling games. Published by Fallout, Starfield, and Skyrim legend Bethesda and developed by Dishonored's Arkane, Deathloop is one such example. Our own GOTY for 2021, it's now available cheaper than ever.
