Today is a really big day for Diablo 4 players everywhere. The first new class coming to the action RPG following its release last year arrives this October with the Vessel of Hatred expansion. It’s called the Spiritrborn and it’s something that’s entirely new to the series. All of these are good reasons to show off the new class in more detail, which is exactly what Blizzard is doing today in a dedicated reveal. Read more View the full article
Maybe you've already watched the season 4 finale of The Boys, which is getting solid reviews so far, but if you haven't, you might be surprised by a last-minute warning issued by the show and Prime Video's official accounts after the ************** attempt of last weekend on former President of the ******* States and current presidential candidate Donald Trump. Via IGN, season 4 episode 8's original title was '************** Run', which is unfortunate to say the least, in spite of the series' nature and all the buildup done this season to reach the plot point. Now, Prime Video has dropped the title and shared an official statement regarding the main events depicted in the episode and the process behind it (and lack of connection to real-life events). Of course, last weekend's attempt on Trump's life isn't the first time someone has shot at a President of the U.S. nor a plot point that hasn't been tackled by countless works of fiction, but you can never be sure, especially in the age of social media, fake outrages, and more importantly, tensions in the US reaching dangerously high levels ahead of the next presidential election. Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge This week on Decoder, I talked to author Matthew Ball, who was last on the show in 2022 to discuss his book “The Metaverse: And How it Will Revolutionize Everything.” It’s 2024, and it’s safe to say that has not happened yet. But Matt’s still on the case — in fact, he just performed an almost complete update of the book, now with the much more sober title, “Building the Spatial Internet.” It’s out next week on Tuesday, July 23rd. Matt and I talked a lot about where the previous metaverse hype cycle landed us and what there is to learn from these ***** and bust waves in technology. We also talked about the Apple Vision Pro as a marker or symbol of where the metaverse is now and where it has to go. If you read or watched my review when it... Image: 1047 Games Splitgate isn’t ***** yet. On Thursday, developer 1047 Games revealed a cinematic trailer for Splitgate 2, a revamped version of the free-to-play multiplayer shooter, which uses the same portal mechanic that made the game so fun the first time around. When Splitgate 2 launches in 2025, it will come with some notable upgrades. The developers say they’ve “rebuilt everything from the ground up” in Unreal Engine 5 and also added a new faction-based system. “There will be familiar elements, but on the whole, Splitgate 2 should look and feel completely fresh from the original,” 1047 Games says. Commonly referred to as “Halo with portals,” Splitgate became a breakout hit when it launched in 2021, racking up 10 million downloads in less than 30... Continue reading… View the full article

A good immersive sim, by its very nature, offers myriad varied approaches to solving problems. And yet, I find myself wanting to get hyper-specific when writing about the action of Corpus Edax, because it has an incredibly gratifying metal pipe sound, whether you’re stealthy wrapping it around the back of a blissfully unaware fool’s noggin, or lobbing it directly at their knee caps. In fact - although the game does have a delightful array of classic verbs, along with a few surprises - many of them are simply conducive to a stirring round of fisticuffs, to write my most British sentence of the week. Nintendo now offers its own Joy-**** charger. | Image: Nintendo Europe Nintendo has announced its own standalone charger for the Switch’s Joy-**** controllers arriving on October 17th. It’s an accessory that many Switch gamers would have welcomed seven years ago when the handheld launched, and while third parties have long offered alternatives, Nintendo’s arrives with some extra flexibility. Unlike most wireless controllers that can be charged with a USB-C cable, the Nintendo Joy-****, as well as the company’s retro wireless NES and Famicom gamepads, can only charge when attached to the Switch. A separate charger makes it easier to keep more than two Joy-**** controllers powered up, so it’s an odd move for the company to release an accessory like this as the original Switch’s lifecycle winds down and its... Take me back to the soft blue light, Conscript. It’s safe there, in the save room. No body-armoured heavies with trench raiding clubs. No tunnels choked with sickly, mushy-pea green gas. No rats feasting on my ankles, occasionally inflicting a ******** that halves my health bar. “*******, they’re sending runners now?” the rifleman asks as I hoof south from Fort Souville after a gruelling trench defence whittles down my resources to a busted fightin’ spade and a handful of ******* bullets. Image: Voicemod Popular voice changing software Voicemod is finally going to work with game consoles like the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. While Voicemod has been available as an app on Windows PCs for more than five years, platform limitations have forced Voicemod to create dedicated hardware to bring its popular voice changer and soundboard to game consoles. Voicemod Key is a tiny USB-C dongle that turns your regular gaming headset and mobile phone into a voice changer and soundboard for game consoles, phones, and tablets. “The original idea was from the community, we found it on YouTube,” explains Voicemod chief operating officer Jochen Doppelhammer in an interview with The Verge. Voicemod can’t build an app for Xbox or PlayStation, so... Continue reading… View the full article
The next patch for Baldur's Gate 3 could make a fan-favorite NPC recruitable - if only for a moment. Larian recently released a blog post regarding all the fixes and new content in the next patch for BG3. Many players will be excited to hear about its improved romance scenes, along with a new feature that allows for dynamic split-screen, merging the two halves of the picture when players are occupying the same area. The developers are also hard at work on the modding toolkit for Baldur's Gate 3, which should enhance the replayability of this already huge, dynamic game. View the full article

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes it feels like the collective gaming industry has telepathically read my thoughts and decided to make something that's just for me. On top of Alien: Romulus, which arrives exclusively in theaters on August 16, Disney, 20th Century Studios, and FX have slowly but steadily worked on an ambitious Alien TV series created by Fargo's Noah Hawley. Now, after several delays and strikes-related production bumps, main photography is done, and a seemingly definitive title has been revealed. Via Variety, the title, according to Hawley himself and FX boss John Landgraf, is Alien: Earth. Not beating around the bush with that one, ey? "Noah is deep in work on Season 1 of 'Alien: Earth' right now. We’re in post-production, and we are talking to him and watching cuts every week. We’re pretty bullish on 'Alien: Earth' and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, 'Alien: Earth' is a returning television series, we want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of 'Fargo'. So it’s going to be a little while, but I’m also an intensely proud of that show," Landgraf explained during a lengthy interview. Read more View the full article
