We’ve known Battlefield has been cooking in the background for a while, and it seems players finally have something concrete to hope for. Vince Zampella, EA’s group GM, shared the first information regarding the upcoming Battlefield title, confirming it will have a modern setting and return to the franchise’s “core.” He shared this and more in a Sept. 16 interview with IGN, and even threw in the first concept art for the game as a bonus. Zampella said the developers recognized the peak of Battlefield happened during the years of BF3 and 4, “where everything was modern.” Thus, he thinks the franchise should return to “the core of what Battlefield is.” Zampella also said making maps and player counts big for the sake of huge numbers “doesn’t make any sense,” and that the team is designing the upcoming game to be “more akin to previous Battlefields.” View the full article

With only a couple of weeks left until the release of Shattered Space, the folks over at Bethesda released a deep ***** into what Starfield players can expect from the new DLC. And the language used to describe House Va’Ruun’s new planet sounds like the medicine the game needs. “We’re expanding Starfield‘s galaxy with a brand new, completely handcrafted world and deep new storyline,” said Tim Lamb, lead creative producer on Starfield, to open today’s video—and that word choice seems very intentional. Given so many of the criticisms leveled at the game involve drab, procedurally generated worlds and landscapes that quickly turn it from a space exploration odyssey into a fast travel simulator, a word like “handcrafted” naturally pricks my ears.
