In Frostpunk 2, at the end of chapter three, Return to Winterhome, you’re presented with your biggest choice yet. You can either salvage or settle Winterhome, and your decision greatly affects how the rest of the game plays out. The fate of Winterholm in Frostpunk 2 is your decision alone, but two of your communities have very strong views on what you should do. The Stalwarts insist that you salvage it, and the Pilgrims are just as determined that you should settle it. AMD is going all-in on artificial intelligence to power its new frame-generation tech, with the hope of boosting the frame rates and battery life of handheld devices such as the Steam Deck. AMD FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4) will be AMD's fourth release of the technology designed to help boost frame rates in games. AMD revealed that it made the switch internally to focus on an AI-based approach "nine to 12 months ago," because the original FSR technology wasn't "where the future is going" for gamers. The company continues to battle it out against Nvidia's dominance of the GPU market, and while AMD's own chips are regularly used in some of the best graphics cards available, Nvidia has a big headstart when it comes to AI-based gaming tech. Frostpunk 2 was an ambitious gambit. With survival achieved, and the introduction's excellently sinister advisor whispering evil Tory ideas, the whole city you built in Frostpunk is now just the headquarters for a sprawling expansion effort, and your rule is no longer absolute. Rather than retread the same "prepare for ultra-Winter" ground, your biggest obstacle will likely be your own people, now formed into shifting political parties, and looking outward with colonial eyes. Seldom does a game force itself into a redemption arc, but Helldivers 2 seems to have done just that. After a stellar launch, it suffered heavily from incessant nerfs and Sony shenanigans, but is finally seeing better days as devs continue to issue nothing but buffs and improvements. This rhetoric took new form in the most recent Helldivers 2 update launched on Sept. 17. It reworked most weapons, enemies, and systems, primarily nerfing the defenses of numerous burly opponents, while giving many guns a ton of much-needed attention and love through great buffs to make them more effective against all enemies. The developers have been issuing buffs for a while now, though this latest patch is probably their best single buff drop since the game was released. The Dark Horizon, Remnant 2’s third and final promised DLC, is just around the corner. It’ll ship with a big free update that revamps endgame progression and adds a new Boss Rush mode. But according to the designers, there’s much more to it than just bosses.
