Dec. 22 marks the start of a new season in ARC Raiders, and with it arrives a fresh Trials. The new set, available until Dec. 29, has five tasks to complete. As always, some of the tasks are harder to complete than the rest. This guide will provide you with all the vital information required for completing the tasks and obtaining three stars in the process. Table of contentsARC Raiders Week 9 Trials guideSearch First Wave HusksDamage LeapersHarvest PlantsSearch Frozen Raider ContainersDestroy TicksARC Raiders Week 9 Trials guide The Week 9 Trials can be broken down into five tasks. Search First Wave husksDamage LeapersHarvest plantsSearch Frozen Raider ContainersDestroy TicksSearch First Wave Husks The First Wave Husks are remains of gigantic metallic robots that have been destroyed in the war against humanity. Their remains can be found all over the maps, but the best spots have always been on Blue Gate. This map, in general, has a lot of remains across its different POIs. To increase the odds in your favor, you should wait for the Husk Graveyard condition, since that will increase the number of interactive metal shells. You'll also gain double contribution points when the map condition is active. Damage Leapers Screenshot and remix by Destructoid While this task is relatively simple, you'll have to be careful. Getting caught in the open by Leapers means almost certain death. One of my favorite spots is the elevator near the Water Control building on Dam Battlegrounds. A Leaper almost always roams the land near the elevator, and there's also a bunker. Being in the bunker will stop the Leaper's attacks from doing damage, but you can keep shooting at it. To get three stars, you'll want to use a weapon that has decent DPS, and you should always hit its joints and eyes. Those are the softer areas, and will be able to amplify the damage requirements in quick time. Harvest Plants Screenshot and Remix by Destructoid Various plants can spawn on every map, excluding Stella Montis. For example, the South Swamp area in Dam Battlegrounds has loads of foliage to go through. If you're on Blue Gate, the Olive Garden in the southern part of the map is a great spot to hit as well. Ultimately, you can also opt for efficient farming routes on YouTube. However, you can take your sweet time completing this task and ranking the rank to three stars. Your progress will be counted across multiple raids, so there's no necessity to for for optimal routes (I prefer completing this task by mixing with other quests). Search Frozen Raider Containers Screenshot and remix by Destructoid To find Frozen Raider Containers, you'll want to head to a map with the active Cold Snap condition. Frozen Raider Containers are nothing but ordinary Raider caches, but covered in snow. The frozen variants offer better rewards due to the map conditions. My favorite map for this has been the Dam Battlegrounds map, and you'll want to look at the spots marked on the screenshot above. However, you can also find Raider Containers on other maps, as long as the Cold Snap condition is active. Destroy Ticks The best map for this task is Stella Montis. The Stella Montis has multiple rooms that you can access via the doors. To be more specific, you'll want to target the rooms on the base floor. Many of these rooms can have Ticks hiding behind the doors. Ticks are easy to kill as they don't have much health or armor. However, they can swarm you quite quickly if you're not paying attention. It's best to use single-shot weapons against them, like shotguns that work well in short ranges. The post ARC Raiders Week 9 Trials (Dec. 22) – How to get three stars appeared first on Destructoid. Co-founder of Infinity Ward, co-creator of Call of Duty, and head of Respawn Entertainment Vince Zampella has died in a car ******, according to a new report from NBC4. Zampella was involved in a single-car ****** on Angeles Crest Highway, according to the report, at about 12:55pm local time on Dec. 21. The vehicle veered off the road before hitting a concrete barrier and a passenger was ejected from the car. Both Zampella and the passenger did not survive. Image via Activision One of the architects of modern FPS games as we know it, Zampella's work history includes the co-creation of the very original Call of Duty titles. Under his leadership, Infinity Ward released Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, after which he moved on to co-found Respawn Entertainment and oversee such games as Apex Legends and the Star Wars: Jedi series. "Vince was an extraordinary person — a gamer at heart, but also a visionary executive with a rare ability to recognize talent and give people the freedom and confidence to create something truly great," said The Game Awards founder and friend of Zampella, Geoff Keighley. "He leaves behind an incredible legacy of work. I’ll miss our dinners and long conversations. And while he created some of the most influential games of our time, I always felt he still had his greatest one ahead of him. It’s heartbreaking that we’ll never get to play it." All it took for Samson to pique my curiosity was a very brief teaser on social media, and then a follow-up post by the game director that described it “more like Mad Max…Payne” meant it had my attention. And then, once it was officially announced earlier this month, my interest immediately skyrocketed. It’s a gritty crime drama being developed by Liquid Swords, a team made up of a number of former Just Cause developers. It’s due out early in 2026 on PC for $25, with console versions planned for later release. In it, you play Samson McCray, who finds himself in the city of Tyndalston after a job he was the getaway driver for went bad in St. Louis. His sister, Oonagh, had warned him not to take the job, and sure enough she was right. But she managed to cut a deal with the St. Louis crew: Samson has to pay back what was lost, with interest. And that’s where this game begins: with our titular anti-hero staring down a debt that’s accruing interest every day, needing to take whatever jobs he can in order to whittle the debt down. Combat is hand-to-hand. Health pickups are bottles of painkillers (hello, Max Payne!), you’ll do plenty of driving (hello, Mad Max!). And the world, says studio founder and game director Christofer Sundberg, will “push back” on your action. “We've had this motto from the beginning that the city is a character in itself,” he explained. “So the more you poke around, the more the world will react. Interacting with people on the street, objects, doing stuff that is unexpected to the world – it's quite a depressing town. The world will react. We have a special narrative around law enforcement and why guns are exclusive to law enforcement and really hardened criminals. And the world remembers what you've done. You won't get away with everything. There will be a reaction to your actions.” The more you poke around, the more the world will react. Oh, and about that “more like Mad Max…Payne” comment? When asked to elaborate on that, Sundberg told me, “[Some of] the team that worked on the Mad Max is working on Samson, and we're taking that [experience] ten years in the future. The tone is equally dark as Mad Max. It's not a post-apocalyptic world. [And] one of the greatest urban game stories ever told is Max Payne. [So] I guess it's the tone that I'm after.” Samson originally had a much larger scope with a much larger team. But in early 2025, Sundberg and studio leadership made the difficult decision to lay off approximately half of the team.”We made a very tough decision to scale down the team due to market conditions and how much trouble the industry is in right now. It stung a lot to have to let them go and it also meant that we had to change our focus. We shelved more of the heavier RPG stuff we worked on – our version of base-building – because we didn't have the bandwidth anymore.” And so, the team that remains, it meant trying to deliver a narrower-but-still-deep experience. “It was originally a 100-hour experience. Now it's more of a quick-and-dirty session-based experience. Completionists will get to spend at least 25 hours. But we are very respectful of people's time.” And that reduced scope is reflected in the $25 price point, too. “We see this as the first book in a series of books to be told about the city and character. “It's tiny compared to Just Cause 2, but it's dense,” he continued. “The size of the world isn't the issue, it's more about how we fill it with meaningful content. We always say that it's ‘big enough’ and it's very scalable.” Getting back to gameplay, Sundberg says Samson is inspired tonally by films like Heat, Ronin, French Connection – stories, in his words, “where violence is fast and decisive.” And that influence is pretty clear on the screen. Samson looked to my eye like it was set in the 1970s, but Sundberg says it is in fact the ‘90s, chosen specifically for the layer of grit the decade still had caked on it. “We played around with the identity era crisis that the '90s was. Cell phones didn't really exist but they were still around. Cash was still king and people were still smoking.” I saw a mission played where Samson wandered outside into a seedy neighborhood. He jumped into a muscle car and drove to a mission waypoint that offered $1000 to be a getaway driver. After switching cars and meeting at the pickup point – in an industrial area that was still very seedy – the planned burglary happens, the building’s alarm goes off, your crewmates get in, and you have to escape the pursuing police. The extra wrinkle is that the cops have a helicopter looking for you too, so it means you’ll need to work extra hard to shake them. After plenty of driving around – Tyndalston seems fairly large, but again, don’t expect it to be jammed full of open-world activities to do – you eventually duck off a road in an alley, under an overpass, turn off your ***********, and lose the pursuing police. This beatdown earned us $1000 to knock off of Samson’s debt. The next mission I saw was a hit that tasked me with going into a club called Chubb’s, finding the manager, and having to fight my way through – sometimes bare-knuckled, and sometimes with a crowbar in hand. Eventually you can build up your adrenaline meter and trigger an adrenaline rush, allowing you to hit harder for a short ******* of time. This beatdown earned us $1000 to knock off of Samson’s debt. Though my demo was brief – maybe 15 minutes or so – I saw enough to really like how Samson is shaping up. The Liquid Swords team is seemingly aiming to deliver a AAA experience at a AA scope and price (there’s more info in an FAQ on the Steam page if you’re interested). If they can pull it off, then Samson has a chance to be well worth its low asking price. View the full article
Vince Zampella, best known as the co-creator of the Call of Duty franchise and co-founder of Infinity Ward who went on to co-found Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi developer Respawn Entertainment, died in a single-car accident in Los Angeles on Sunday, NBC Los Angeles reports. According to the NBC report, "The single-car ****** was reported at about 12:45 p.m. on the scenic road north of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Mountains. The southbound car veered off the road, hit a concrete barrier and a passenger was ejected, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver was trapped in the ensuing car fire, the CHP said. The driver died at the scene and the passenger died at a hospital, authorities told NBC4 Investigates." No further details about the accident or what might have caused it are available as of yet. Zampella was an incredibly talented game developer who changed the industry with Call of Duty, a franchise he co-created with Jason West in 2003 at Infinity Ward, the studio he co-founded with West, after previously serving as the lead designer for EA's Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Zampella was at the center of a high-profile lawsuit against Activision that alleged that the publisher owed Zampella and the Infinity Ward team millions of dollars in unpaid Call of Duty royalties. The bitter professional divorce led to Zampella and West taking a substantial number of the Infinity Ward team with them to EA, where they co-founded Respawn Entertainment, a studio that has produced nothing but critically acclaimed hits: Titanfall (IGN review), Titanfall 2 (IGN review), Apex Legends (IGN review), Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (IGN review), and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (IGN review). Respawn's success under Zampella led to him getting promoted twice, eventually overseeing the Battlefield franchise within his role as Group General Manager at EA. 2025 was a great time in the gaming industry, especially for indie titles, but for games across the gamut of genres and development. While indies like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hades 2 racked up the accolades, AAA games still brought some bangers like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Battlefield 6, and more. Basically, no matter what kind of game you're into, 2025 had something for you. As the calendar is ready to flip into 2026, we are in for some more excellence. While Grand Theft Auto 6 looms at the end of the year, there are a myriad of games coming out beforehand that should fill the time with lots of fun and excellence along the way. Updated: We last updated our Jujutsu Zero clan tier list on December 22, 2025. Clans in Jujutsu Zero grant you permanent stat bonuses that can be very impactful both early and later on. Now, even though the rarest clans, such as Tengen and Sukuna, are the best, obtaining them can be very difficult. With that in mind, we prepared the following Jujutsu Zero clan tier list to help you use your rerolls wisely and know which clans are worth keeping in your bag. Jujutsu Zero Clan Tier List S A B C D In the Jujutsu Zero clan tier list above, we ranked all clans currently available based on the passive bonuses they provide your character with. Expectedly, Sukuna and Tengen are at the top, justifying their extremely low drop rate (1 in 5,000), and they should be one of your end-game grinding goals. Depending on what cursed technique and weapons you are using, decent alternatives are Geto, Gojo, Zen'in, and Abe. 2025 gave us all-timers like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which is what most people will likely remember down the line, but it's not entirely representative of this year. Despite great games, the industry lost countless developers and studios, and adopted some incredibly disappointing strategies. Let's list them, lest we forget. ****** Ops 7 Image via Activision The Call of Duty: ****** Ops subseries began as an examination of the darkest parts of warfare. ****** Ops 7, however, ditches all of its themes to have players fighting off ridiculous monsters that players have compared to Skibidi Toilet, a series of silly YouTube shorts for kids. Also, the game is full of AI slop. I absolutely get why a corporation would use AI to create bland iconography for achievements and whatnot. Still, Microsoft jumping on the bandwagon of copying Studio Ghibli via AI slop to create calling cards that have nothing to do with CoD months too late felt especially cringe-inducing. The EAcquisition A few months ago, we learned how video game giant EA is being acquired by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Now, most wealthy countries are responsible for unforgivable stuff. I don't care that "a" Saudi Arabian company now owns a considerable percentage of the biggest games out there; I care that "the" people directly responsible for all sorts of human rights violations are the ones acquiring EA. Was the Mass Effect series somehow getting an even worse conclusion on your bingo card? Well, too bad. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 Don't get me wrong: no one is saying Bloodlines 2 is a terrible game. It's actually a decent game, which is, somehow, worse. Let's clarify. The original Bloodlines went through a gruesome development cycle that culminated with the release of an unfinished game. It only became a classic because fans reworked it to the point of making its great mechanics, story, and world not just playable, but greatly enjoyable. Bloodlines 2 went through an even longer and more gruelling development cycle, which saw publisher Paradox going as far as to swap development studios for the project. The result, after so many years of waiting, was ok. Bloodlines 2 provides an incredibly diluted experience when compared to the original, but it plays well. Fans had spent these past dark years getting ready to fix this one when it came out, only to come to the dire realization that there's just not much below the already functioning surface to save. Microsoft leaves us in the dark Microsoft had been acquiring game studios as if they were Infinity Stones in the past few years. This is never a good sign, but, in this case, at least, it would likely point out that they were at least really serious about making new games, right? Well, not really, as 2025's version of Microsoft seemed hellbent on layoffs, studio closures, and, naturally, game cancellations. We often hear about the cancellation of games that the public had never witnessed past the screenshot format, but that was not the case with Perfect Dark. It was one of the many games that Microsoft killed out of nowhere, and it looked great. [Hidden Content] If you don't know much about Perfect Dark, it's a series that conquered the hearts of many back in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 before fumbling it with the 360's Perfect Dark Zero in 2006. Then, for nearly 20 years, it was just a promise Microsoft dangled in front of our eyes out of what now seems to be just pure cruelty. Civilization VII The Civilization series has usually been a slam dunk, the rare series whose perceived errors are fun enough to become the stuff of legend. That, however, didn't ring true to Civilization VII, a new entry that made the baffling decision to remove many of the series' beloved mechanics, and to add a bunch of confusing bloat that nobody really liked. Even before Civ VII was out, there were already mods out to try to bring it closer to the glory of Civilizations past. Borderlands 4 After ****** Ops 7 and Civilization 7, Borderlands destroyed its winning formula at just the fourth attempt. What a great year for "worst in the series" 2025 has been! Fans complained how the game was demanding on their wallets with its $70 to $80 price tag, and on their PCs, as it struggled on most systems. Gearbox boss ****** Pitchford downplayed the game's issues and claimed "real fans would find a way to make it work." The good news is Borderlands 4 has a good game underneath all the bad coding, if you can still stand the series' juvenile humor, that is. If not, just try out the best game in the series. Fans were hyped for Aspyr's remaster as they'd done a stellar job with both the Tomb Raider and Soul Reaver reworks. They absolutely didn't do a great job here, considering how almost parody-level bad this looks To end on a better note, Aspyr has recently removed Deux Ex Remastered's presence from the Internet, which seems to point to an attempt to do the game justice.
