Sid Meier's Civilization VII has received another big update, as the rather divisive 4X strategy game wrangles with a mostly negative user review consensus on Steam. The latest Civ 7 update adds large and huge maps, each with a default of 10 players in single player and eight (including AI) in multiplayer. Developers Firaxis are working on supporting 12 players for Huge maps, but need more time to ensure that this doesn't scuttle game stability and performance. As it is, they caution that "******* maps have ******* hardware demands" and that you might see "slower turn times or performance drops, especially on lower end hardware." Six or so years on from an announcement trailer that made it clear people had an appetite for their game's Minecrafty building and survival shenanigans (it's got 61 million views to date), Hypixel Studios have announced that Hytale has been cancelled. On top of that, the studio themselves are gearing up for closure. Hytale's development kicked off all the way back in 2015, with its devs being the folks behind the huge Hypixel Minecraft server. League of Legends publisher Riot Games bought the studio in 2020, not long after we learned that Hytale would have undead chickens, and not long before the game's target release year started being pushed back. The head of Sonic Team has promised that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds won’t have items designed to let players “win all the time” from a losing position. The recently released Mario Kart World, like previous games in the series, has a number of high-powered items which are given to players near the back of the pack, such as Bullet Bills, Stars and the infamous Blue Shell. However, in an interview with GamesRadar, Takashi Iizuka said the upcoming CrossWorlds – while still designed with fair and balanced racing in mind – won’t have such items. Read More... If you like Dandy's World you'll love this game and the same goes for the Climbers/Characters so let's analyze each one. The best Climber in Anchored depends on their roles like doing panels, distracting monsters, or team support. Here's my Anchored Climber tier list and guide for each one. Table of contentsBest Climbers in Anchored RankedS-Tier ClimbersA-Tier ClimbersB-Tier ClimbersC-Tier ClimbersD-Tier ClimbersBest Climbers in Anchored Ranked Image by Destructoid I'll rank the best Climbers in Anchored according to their stats (A>B>C>D>E), ability, and overall role in a party. Some Climbers are better for doing panels, some for distracting monsters, and some for supporting the team. This tier list will focus on all roles and the most useful Climbers overall. Note that you can pick whichever Climber you want and have fun, I just wanted to outline the most mechanically optimal ones for a team composition if you like playing what's best. Below you'll find all climbers ranked with reasons and tips. S-Tier ClimbersClimberNotesAbility & StatsUnlock Requirements FlippyMain Role: Panels Flippy is the best panel Climber in Anchored both because of her ability and the highest hacking in the game. Zero Breach basically reduces the number of panels you have to do per floor by 1. Just make sure you have a Sparks or other distractors watching your back.• Zero Breach: Instantly complete your first panel each floor if less than half of the panels are done. • Health: C • Stamina: C • Speed: D • Hacking: A • Stealth: D• 200 Lumens • Hack 10 Panels RemedyMain Role: Support Remedy is similar to Patches in that they're both healers and healers are the best supports in Anchored. Remedy will prolong your team's run just by standing near everyone so pick the lowest HP teammate or your team's enemy distractor like Sparks. You're quite fast and have decent Stamina and HP so stay out of trouble since you can't heal in any way. Don't do Panels though since you're bad at Hacking.• Unbroken Light: Heal nearby allies over time but you can't be healed by any means. • Health: B • Stamina: B • Speed: C • Hacking: E • Stealth: C• 500 Lumens • Unlock Spirit and complete all of their Luminary challenges SparksMain Role: Distract Sparks is one of the best enemy distractors in the game. You can bait enemies to chase you, away from your allies doing panels, and then activate EMP to stun them all. You have great Stamina and Health so even if you do get hit it's not as big of a deal. Just make sure you have a Patches or Remedy who can heal you and you'll be carrying games. Let your team handle panels since your Hacking sucks.• EMP Powerstick: Stun all Sentinels and Drones for 5 seconds. • Health: A • Stamina: B • Speed: D • Hacking: E • Stealth: C• 300 Lumens • Unlock Solar and complete all of their Luminary challenges PatchesMain Role: Support Patches is one of the best supports in the game because he can buy healing items and drop them for his team (Hold Backspace and Press Item Number). Dropping items isn't possible in Dandy's World so Anchored's twist with droppable items makes Patches arguably a better healer than Remedy. You can sustain your team and even distract enemies with your amazing Stamina and good Speed.• Quick Patch: You can trade 100 Ciphers at any time and place for a Bandage. The cost and cooldown increases the more Patches are in the game. • Health: D • Stamina: A • Speed: C • Hacking: D • Stealth: C• 350 Lumens • Unlock Doppy and complete all of their Luminary challengesA-Tier ClimbersClimberNotesStatsUnlock Requirements SpiritMain Roles: Distract & Support Spirit can be a lifesaver in clutch moments when someone (or you) is running from an enemy and is out of stamina or he can generally just speed up his team globally with more Stamina. He's a highly flexible character that can even distract enemies well with amazing Speed and Stamina. I put him in A because without voice comms Second Wind can be wasted but if you're talking to your team via voice Spirit is S-Tier for sure.• Second Wind: Restore full stamina to all players. Cooldown increases for each Spirit in the game. • Health: D • Stamina: B • Speed: A • Hacking: E • Stealth: C• 300 Lumens • Unlock Delta and complete all of their Luminary challenges SolarMain Role: Distract Solar is an excellent enemy distractor and plays similar to Sparks though he's A-Tier because his ability only works on himself whereas Sparks' can help teammates globally. Just bait a monster to chase you away from someone doing panels and you can either lead the enemy away with your great Speed and Stamina or pop Eclipse and lose all aggro to escape.• Eclipse: Go invisible to all Sentinels and Drones for 5 seconds. • Health: E • Stamina: C • Speed: B • Hacking: D • Stealth: A• 200 Lumens • Hack 20 PanelsB-Tier ClimbersClimberNotesStatsUnlock Requirements DeltaMain Role: Panels I might have low-balled Delta and he might be A-Tier but I'm sticking with B for now since you can usually have a great overview of enemies and panels once you get used to the game. Still, Delta is a great hacker and his ability helps greatly when there's low visibility.• Spectral Lens: Reveal all enemies and panels on the floor for 5 seconds. • Health: D • Stamina: C • Speed: C • Hacking: B • Stealth: C• 200 Lumens • Hack 10 Panels DoppyMain Role: Distract Unlike Delta who's between A and B, Doppy is a certified B because his ability is random. Doppy's hacking is great but being unable to choose where you teleport keeps him in B. If he was able to choose which teammate to teleport to so he can do nearby panels he would be S.• Warp: Teleport to a random teammate or near the elevator if solo. • Health: D • Stamina: B • Speed: C • Hacking: B • Stealth: D• 350 Lumens • Hack 10 PanelsC-Tier ClimbersClimberNotesStatsUnlock Requirements LumoMain Role: Progression & Panels Lumo is similar to Rodger from Dandy's World and my rankings are the same. He's mid for runs since his ability doesn't contribute anything to the team but he's SSS-Tier for progression if you want to unlock Climbers quickly. That said, his hacking is A so he's great at doing panels.• Golden Stream: Gain 50% more Ciphers and Lumens during runs. • Health: D • Stamina: D • Speed: C • Hacking: A • Stealth: C• 350 Lumens • Unlock Flippy and complete all of their Luminary challenges RuffleMain Role: Distract Ruffle is in a weird spot because his hacking is bad and his stamina isn't good either. His ability can be helpful but isn't anything amazingly useful. You can distract decently well with him though by baiting monsters and outrunning them with his B Speed. That said, he's not the best character overall.• Treasure Sense: Highlight all Items, Ciphers, Documents, and Discs on every floor. • Health: C • Stamina: D • Speed: B • Hacking: D • Stealth: B• 350 Lumens • Collect 200 Items PuffyMain Role: Flexibile/Distract Your possible starting character and the definition of mid. Nothing special here. You might get more Stamina which is pretty nice in a large team but otherwise isn't anything special. Being in a large team makes you good at distracting since you can sprint for days and Puffy is better than Rocky so C-Tier is perfect.• Snowbond: Get +5 max Stamina for every other player in the game. • Health: C • Stamina: C • Speed: C • Hacking: C • Stealth: C• Starting climber or buy for 250 Lumens if you chose RockyD-Tier ClimbersClimberNotesStatsUnlock RequirementsMain Role: Distract The worst Climber in the game since you don't have an ability unless you get hit which you want to avoid. At least you can distract a bit but it's not worth losing health to activate the ability. Overall, I don't recommend playing Rocky nor is he that fun to play either.• Rock Shock: When hit by an enemy, gain 20 Stamina and Speed A for 5 seconds. • Health: C • Stamina: C • Speed: C • Hacking: C • Stealth: C• Starting climber or buy for 250 Lumens if you chose Puffy That's it for my Anchored Climber tier list and guide for all characters. Dune: Awakening developer Funcom said it is aware that "players are reporting being cut out of the endgame due to the extremely competitive nature of the Deep Desert." Last week, Funcom assured players in an AMA it was already "formulating a plan" to improve PvP in the Deep Desert, which players have previously branded as "toxic" due to griefing even after patching out the ability for players to squish other people with their Ornithopter. In a candid letter from the creative director, Joel Bylos said: "So let me start by stating this unequivocally — we want PvE players to be able to play the endgame and have access to the content of the endgame. Our goal is not to force PvE players to interact with a PvP system that they may have no interest in. "We still believe in the core concept of the Deep Desert — an endlessly renewing location that resets every week and creates an activity loop for great rewards. The tension of heading out there, head on a swivel, eyes peeled for foes as you enter the most dangerous part of the most dangerous planet in the universe, Our wish was that players would embrace this loop, forming guilds to work together to overcome the bleakness of the Deep Desert. But as Stephen King says, 'Wish in one hand, sh*t in the other, see which one fills up first.' One of my hands is overflowing right now and sadly not with wishes." Bylos admitted that the "extremely competitive nature" of the Deep Desert was forcing players to engage when they may prefer PvP, and consequently, some areas of the Deep Desert will now be flagged as "Partial Warfare (PvE)" where players can grab rare resources without getting ambushed. The largest spice fields, shipwrecks and Landsraad control points will remain "War of Assassins (PvP)" as "high reward, high risk" areas. That said, the whole game is balanced around guilds and groups, so if you prefer to be a lone wolf, you can expect it to be "grindy if [you] play solo." As for the Orni griefing? "Thopters will always be incredibly important for crossing the desert, but they shouldn’t also be the dominant force in actual battles," Bylos said, adding that the following will be implemented "shortly": Scout Ornithopters with rocket launchers attached will have their speed maneuverability reducedRockets fired from Scout Ornithopters will have increased heat generationThrusters will provide a max speed bonus regardless of wings, ensuring that thruster equipped scouts will be the fastest vehicles in the game A new T5 infantry rocket launcher will be added to help improve the dynamics of vehicle/ground combat Finally, the Landsraad. Bylos defines it as "an umbrella for all endgame activities," such as dungeons, contracts, and "more specialized delivery tasks." "As a system it is an activity driver that is designed to promote the conflict between the factions, internal politics between the guilds, while providing goal thresholds for individuals and groups to work towards getting personal rewards," the director explained. "And the Landsraad should be doing that for everyone who wants to participate in the elder game, be they PvEer or PvPer. The Landsraad should be giving you things to do every day and every week. "It’s nothing new, from a design perspective, we’ve seen daily/weekly quest systems in games for a long time. Our approach was to try and frame this system around the greater politics of the Dune universe, by having players engage in activities to earn the votes of the various Landsraad houses." Consequently, Funcom will shortly be addressing "key flaws" in the Landsraad design, too, including stockpiling, which is currently rewarded but was not designed to be that way. "Once a live game launches, it becomes a collaborative effort between the developers and the players to make it something amazing," Bylos concluded. "We appreciate your feedback on what we hope is the beginning of a long journey together. "Bear with us — our intention is to be clear and open in our communications and to make Dune: Awakening a game that everybody can enjoy." We gave Dune: Awakening a Great 8/10 in our review, writing: "Dune: Awakening is an excellent survival MMO that captures Frank Herbet’s sci-fi world incredibly well, mostly to its advantage and occasionally to its detriment. The survival climb from dehydrated peasant to powerful warlord of Arrakis is a joy almost every step of the way, and the story and worldbuilding filled this nerd with absolute joy. There’s still plenty for Awakening to work on though, as its combat never really hits its stride, the endgame is a bit of a chaotic mess not worth the effort." If all that's got you interested, make sure to check out all the Dune: Awakening classes you can choose from, and keep an eye on our in-progress Dune: Awakening walkthrough for a step-by-step guide to the story. To help you survive on Arrakis, we've got Dune: Awakening resource guides that'll help you find iron, steel, aluminium, and a Dune: Awakening Trainers locations guide. Dune: Awakening has enjoyed a superb launch, with a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam. Within hours of going live on June 10, Funcom's survival MMO had clocked up over 142,000 concurrent players on Valve's platform, and hit a new high earlier this month of 189,333 players. PEAK has multiple levels you need to get through before you can escape the island you just ******-landed on. While you initially start on a beach, you'll explore some interesting locations throughout your journey, with each requiring specific strategies to conquer. Table of contentsComplete PEAK level listShore level guideTropics level guideAlpine level guideCaldera level guideThe Kiln level guideComplete PEAK level list PEAK has five levels to complete before you reach the end and escape the island. Here's a brief list of all five levels: ShoreTropicsAlpineCalderaThe Kiln The exact strategy you'll use throughout your playthrough depends on your difficulty, whether you're playing solo or with friends and the resources you collect along the way. For the sake of this guide, we'll follow the perspective of a solo player on Peak difficulty while briefly touching upon aspects you'll encounter with harder options. Shore level guide The first level you'll encounter after crashing your plane is the Shore. You'll arrive on a beach surrounded by luggage and other items, with a large mountain off in the distance. Your first goal is to climb this mountain to complete the level. However, you have the perfect opportunity to claim early resources before progressing. Alongside the luggage containing items like rope, food, and bandages, you'll also find Bing ***** and a Bugle, which you can optionally bring with you for Steam achievements. There is also a nearby backpack you can carry to store additional items and a flare you can avoid unless you're on Ascent 4 or higher. If this is your first playthrough, only worry about the backpack and luggage supplies for now. Oh, and study the guidebook. There's useful information that'll make your entire playthrough much easier. More on this later, though. Screenshot by Destructoid As you venture across the beach and toward the mountain, you'll spot jellyfish on the ground that will poison you upon contact. Avoid stepping on these as you move, and loot any luggage you encounter along the way. As you get closer to the mountain, you'll find purple plants that'll also poison you, giving you two obstacles to face. Climb around these so you don't have to worry about draining precious stamina. As you loot luggage from here onward, you want to carry just enough food to satiate you if you become hungry. You don't need to oversupply on food, as you'll find plenty throughout the levels. The most important thing is finding items like rope cannons, pitons, and, if you're really lucky, legendary items with powerful effects. Generally speaking, since the Shore doesn't have any major weather conditions or obstacles, you're free to tread carefully here and venture off occasionally to loot luggage. Take advantage of bridges, as they can lead you to helpful spots if you're lucky. Otherwise, watch your stamina as you climb and avoid unnecessary damage from poisonous plants or falling off random ledges. Once you reach the top, you'll find an Ancient statue that gives you a legendary item for free, a campfire, and some extra luggage bags. Take a moment to relax here before moving on to the next level. Tropics level guide Your next location after sitting by the campfire is the Tropics, a lush forest area filled with vines. The terrain is much more challenging to navigate, with a different variety of poisonous plants scattered around and the introduction of explosive bushes. Fortunately, you'll have vines that help you traverse it. Screenshot by Destructoid You'll also find mushrooms along the way that you can eat for various effects. However, some variants are poisonous, which can quickly end your run in some circumstances. The guidebook from the Shore will help you identify each type. Beyond this, your strategy is mostly the same as that of the Shore. Climb up, use vines to make traversal easier, and keep supplies like rope cannons on hand as often as possible. The legendary item you received from the Ancient Statue from the last level can also significantly impact your strategy, especially if you gained a resource that grants you infinite stamina temporarily or cures all of your injuries. Alpine level guide Our next stop is Alpine, a tundra level full of snowstorms. Alongside the terrain being tricky to traverse and requiring more climbing than the previous two, you'll also periodically get hit with blizzards that freeze your character, reducing your stamina until it ends. There are also fewer food sources compared to the last two levels. Screenshot by Destructoid Fortunately, opening luggage in this area will start introducing heat packs. Although they don't completely mitigate the effects of these snow storms, they'll restore your stamina much quicker, making it easier to recover from the experience. You won't survive without using these, so make sure to hunt for as many as possible. The terrain is also one of the most difficult parts of this level. There are no vines or bridges, only ice spikes jutting out of the mountain that make navigation much more difficult. Tread carefully, and don't be afraid to check out some of these spikes for unexpected luggage bags on their tips. Just watch out, as you'll occasionally encounter dark blue patches of terrain that freeze you upon contact. Don't worry, though. There's an adorable surprise that appears in this section of the level. As you venture around Alpine, you can find a few capybara chilling in a hot spring. Not only are they cute, but they're also part of a Steam achievement. Caldera level guide PEAK's next level, Caldera, is a challenge. While the previous one was a frozen tundra, this one is full of lava. Luggage bags are also few and far between, making it more important than ever to rely on items, nearby chains, and parkour skills to navigate this region. Screenshot by Destructoid However, there's a catch. Over time, you'll notice rising and falling levels of lava under your feet. If there's a bunch of exposed red rocks, you can run across this to help you travel across the map. Sure, you'll take some burning damage, but it's better than dying instantly. Don't touch the lava, though. That'll kill you quickly. Fortunately, you won't be doing much vertical climbing during this one. This is mostly about running across the map, avoiding the lava and minimizing your burning damage until you reach the volcano on the other side. As you get closer, you'll see a ****** brick structure to climb up, bringing you to the next statue, luggage batch, and your final challenge. Rather than scaling a mountain, though, you'll be entering the belly of it. The Kiln level guide The final level, The Kiln, is located inside the volcano after completing Caldera. As you enter the volcano, you're met with a very similar environment to Caldera, with a region full of hot stones, lava, and difficult terrain to navigate. The only difference is that while the previous level had you traveling along a mostly horizontal path, this one has you climbing up again. Screenshot by Destructoid Overall, The Kiln is a massive pit that you must carefully climb up. You won't find many ledges to rest on or luggage to open. Instead, this is mostly an endurance test until you reach the top. What's at the top? The end. Completing The Kiln will lead you directly to the final point of PEAK's story, letting you progress to the end and see what happens when you master all five sections.
