  1. Rockstar Games has unveiled a major update for GTA Online coming later in June, introducing long-awaited police missions and bounty-hunting features, transforming the virtual cityscape of Los Santos into a dynamic playground for law enforcement and thrill-seekers alike. In this groundbreaking update, players can now step into the shoes of Los Santos’ finest, taking on various police missions that range from routine patrols to high-stakes SWAT operations. The update introduces a fresh perspective to the chaotic world of GTA Online, allowing players to uphold the law rather than break it. View the full article
  2. Neopets is already a cultural phenomenon that's managed to survive throughout the various generational shifts of the internet but the franchise's latest spinoff looks to adopt a genre made popular by one of the cosiest games on the market: Animal Crossing. Most players will likely be most familar with the browser-version of Neopets, a simple but charming game that allows players to adopt, customize, and hang out with adorable fantasy creatures. While that iteration is still popular, those looking for something a little more modern that's also playable on the go should definitely check out Tales of Darcadia. View the full article
  3. Octopath Traveler 2, one of the best role-playing games of 2023, just got even better as Square Enix shocked fans by dropping a new update that should put even the diehard enthusiasts through the ringer. The celebrated sequel to the divisive 2018 JRPG managed to impressive both fans and critics alike and while it may be over a year since the follow-up dropped, there's clearly still some gas left in the tank. Players shouldn't expect a wholly transformative patch but that doesn't mean the new features aren't definitely worth checking out. 4. A report into the making of $200 million flop ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League has shed new light on Rocksteady’s troubled release as well as what’s next for the studio. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League was panned by critics upon launch and had extremely low player numbers on Steam. Some of the frustration stemmed from ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League not being another Batman game from Rocksteady, despite it being set within the same Arkhamverse. The developer’s single player Batman Arkham series is much-loved by fans, with 2011’s Batman: Arkham City in particular held up as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, superhero video games of all time. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League, on the other hand, is a live service third-person combat game in which Batman is a villain. Publisher Warner Bros. soon admitted the ******** of ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League contributed to a $200 million hit to revenue. Bloomberg spoke to a number of sources who revealed how Rocksteady went from working on an original multiplayer game codenamed Stones to a live service ******** Squad game amid what was described internally as a culture of “toxic positivity” that “discouraged criticism.” The original plan was to release ******** Squad: ***** the Justice league in 2019 or 2020, but a number of development issues over the years as well as Rocksteady's lack of live service and multiplayer expertise, combined to cause the game to suffer significant delays. Bloomberg said that despite ******** Squad’s clear failings as Warner Bros. and Rocksteady chased the volatile live service trend, management would insist everything would come together eventually. According to Bloomberg, Warner Bros. executives had told Rocksteady staff they expected ******** Squad to become a billion-dollar franchise. Clearly, it did not. What happens next? According to Bloomberg, Rocksteady staff were told in February 2024 the company was understaffed compared to other video game publishers, suggesting job cuts are not on the way. Many staff at Rocksteady are now said to be working on a director’s cut version of Warner Bros. blockbuster video game Hogwarts Legacy, while studio leadership pitches a new single-player game “which would return Rocksteady to its roots.” Warner Bros. did not comment on the report. Meanwhile, ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League appears set to receive new content (the game recently teased the introduction of Mrs. Freeze as a playable character) in the short-term, but there are question marks over Warner Bros.’ commitment long-term. The company has, however, revealed Batman: Arkham Shadow, a VR game developed by Camouflaj, maker of the Iron Man VR game, and set for release exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 later in 2024. 17. If you're a Final Fantasy fan and you've been worried about what might be in store when you go to jump into Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail expansion, then here's some news - Naoki Yoshida wants you to chill out. This is because the game's developers have been busy doing a lot of prep to make sure the Endwalker expansion's server issues don't happen this time around. Yep, speaking to press at a preview event for Dawntrail (thanks, GamesRadar) Yoshida addressed fan concerns prompted by the server congestion issues that affected Endwalker's arrival back in 2021. "We know that after the peak has passed, we can usually expect 2,000 or 3,000 players on average," Yoshida said, "So from that perspective, it wouldn't make sense that we arranged the box so that it would accommodate 10,000, for example. It was a source of great inconvenience for our players last time." Read more View the full article

  21. Summer Game Fest is right around the corner and the latest reports regarding the showcase suggest that the highly-anticipated Borderlands 4 may be the star of the presentation. Despite some turmoil over the ownership of developer Gearbox, the beloved shooter is still regarded as a high-value property and given the success of the third game and the spinoff Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, it stands to reason that publisher Take-Two would want a new entry. 22. Nightdive Studios rocks. We're big fans of how those folks are consistently bringing back overlooked bangers and classics such as Turok 3 and Star Wars: Dark Forces to modern systems, but if our eyes aren't deceiving us, one of the company's next releases couldn't have been predicted in a thousand years: that The Thing video game most people didn't play on PS2, Xbox, or PC back in the day. Ahead of June 7-9's IGN Live event, Nightdive Studios teased from its official X account a new reveal in a not-so-subtle way. Even without the help of more eagle-eyed gamers and fans of John Carpenter's 1982 horror masterpiece, it's not hard to arrive at the conclusion that they're indeed openly suggesting a remaster of The Thing, which was a sequel of sorts to the movie, is coming. However, they haven't made an official announcement yet, so it's not confirmed until it's fully confirmed, you know? Read more View the full article

While the first iteration of the MSI Claw didn't make much of a splash on our best handheld gaming PC guide, it still did enough to at least make us intrigued about what a follow-up, Intel-powered rival to the AMD-powered Steam Decks and Asus ROG Allys of this world would look like.
