  1. fter 15 years of drought, the BattleTech floodgates opened again and mechs poured forth late last decade. Now a new flood of classic 1980s mechs is coming to PC with MechWarrior 5: Clans, putting us back into the cooling suit of a genetically engineered warrior ready to conquer the worlds of humankind from the cockpit of a 25-100 ton war machine. This is not just a minor expansion, but a standalone game. Clans is a confident leap over 2019's MechWarrior 5, with a much deeper story and new-to-the-series emphasis on narrative cinematics while losing none of its focus on the simulator-like experience of piloting a mech knock-down, drag-out armored brawls... 2. These apparitions and portents, Crystal Dynamics - what game are you playing now? It turns out the game they are playing is: a remaster of amazeballs vampire odyssey Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver, together with its less amazing but sturdy sequel. Said remaster project was rumoured earlier this year, when Sarafan scouts caught sight of a telltale plaque at San Diego Comic-****. Consider that rumour strongly trending towards the status of a Real Thing, because Sony are in the habit of publishing Real Things, and they've just (accidentally, I guess) popped a bunch of screens and a trailer with a release date - 10th December 2024 - on the PlayStation website. 14. With Mortal Kombat 1 expansion Khaos Reigns almost upon us, developer NetherRealm has lifted the lid on its new characters and, in particular, its brand new animalities. Animalities, free for all Mortal Kombat 1 players as part of an update released today, September 24, see characters transform into an animal before tearing apart their opponent in the trademark over-the-top style. Animalities return to Mortal Kombat alongside the release of Khaos Reigns, having made their debut in Mortal Kombat 3 all the way back in 1995. Now, NetherRealm has revealed Peacemaker’s Animality. Peacemaker, a DLC guest character lifted from the DC Universe featuring the likeness and voice of actor John Cena, transforms into an eagle for a patriotic team-up with Eagly that involves severed legs, machine guns, a grenade, and, finally, the flag of the ******* States itself. WTF is Peacemaker's Animality / Friendship This is hilarious#MK1 #MortalKombat1https://t.co/pQYi3T0qzD — thethiny (@thethiny) September 24, 2024 Fans are already comparing Peacemaker’s Animality to the 'WTF Is A Kilometer' meme, which refers to a satirically patriotic ********* catchphrase sprawled on picture of George Washington with a bald eagle and a minigun. Comment byu/taalisalee from discussionhttps://www.reddit.com/r/MortalKombat/comments/1fnsgml/peacemaker_animality_revealed/ inMortalKombat .reddit-embed-wrapper iframe { margin-left: 0 !important; } NetherRealm has form when it comes to references. Indeed, Ghostface’s Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1 is a reference to the Scream movies from which the guest character originates. Noob Saibot’s bone-crunching Animality is a direct reference to the character’s Fatality in Mortal Kombat 9. And fellow DLC character Sektor has a Fatality that references Marvel’s Iron Man. And sticking with the patriotic bird theme, Homelander's Animality sees The Boys supervillain turn into a griffin. 18. Sure there's Ahri, Jinx, Garen, and Vi, but there's no League of Legends champion that's quite as iconic as Teemo. The adorable Swift Scout is one of the MOBA's most beloved (yet simultaneously hated) characters, and in the right hands he's an absolute menace. His visual style, however, is a little clunky, and as a result Riot has been working on an extensive **** (art and sustainability update) over the past couple of years. Shown off yesterday in an extensive dev update, the new Teemo will drop with League of Legends patch 14.20, but it's a rework that's proven divisive. Read the rest of the story... 20. As of Zenless Zone Zero 1.2, HoYoverse is completely removing the much-maligned TV mode from the narrative. In a brand-new presentation, the team addresses player complaints about the game mode, like how it's sluggish, interrupts combat, and happens far too often in the early game. This means all players won't have to deal with the TV mode in the main story going forward, even though HoYoverse has plans to reintroduce the mechanic at some point. Read the rest of the story... 22. This Kingston Fury ****** RGB DDR5 kit shows that at least one manufacturer has rapidly stepped up its DDR5 frequencies while offering reasonable prices and plenty of stock. This 32GB 6,000MHz RGB-enabled gamer memory set comprises a pair of 16GB modules, and is available for around $230. Thankfully, in a rare move, Kingston also offers a more affordable way to jump onto the DDR5 bandwagon, with a 16GB kit available too for just $150. That gives Kingston a significant advantage against the competition right now, as barely anyone else makes dual-channel DDR5 kits, especially with fancy RGB lighting. You can buy plenty of the best gaming RAM in 32GB configurations and higher, but that's a tough ask at current DDR5 prices, particularly if you need to buy a new motherboard and CPU too. 23. Look out, it's Spiders. It's fun to write about Spiders, because you get to frighten people for a moment, before they realise you're talking about the game development studio, Spiders. They have just released GreedFall 2: The Dying Land into early access. For those who don't remember the first GreedFall, it was a colonial-styled RPG about landing on the magical shores of another continent and getting into scrapes with monsters and frontiersfolk. This time the story is furthering the fantasy Columbian exchange by putting you in the role of a native who's been uprooted against their will and taken to the "old world". The game's release comes against a backdrop of dissatisfaction in the studio. But workers have gained some concessions in talks. Read more View the full article
  24. Original Life is Strange developer Don't Nod has announced it had a rough start to the 2024/25 financial year and has pressed pause on two projects as a result. Don't Nod's latest financial report revealed its recent release of Jusant and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden "did not achieve the commercial results" it hoped for and it has changed its plans going forward as a result. The studio is "temporarily pausing two projects in the design phase," for example, enabling it to "prioritize resources and maximize the chances of success of the titles with the greatest potential at present." This will seemingly see Lost Records: Bloom & Rage pushed to the forefront following a "particularly positive reception" at Gamescom, Don't Nod said. The first part of this episodic, narrative adventure is expected in February 2025. "We are obviously disappointed by our recent performance in an extremely competitive and selective market," chairman and CEO Oskar Guilbert said. "Despite an excellent critical reception, Jusant and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden unfortunately did not achieve the commercial results we had hoped for, resulting in a deterioration in our 2024 half-year results and leading us to consider all possible options regarding our roadmap." Don't Nod had seven games in the works as of March 2024, including the two which are now on ice. It revealed the number as part of an internal restructuring that saw three branches created to focus on role-playing games, narrative adventure games, and action adventure games respectively.
