The thing you must remember about the universe of Warhammer 40k is that it isn't ours, despite some similarities. One key difference is that, unless proven otherwise in an Event Horizon-esque experiment, I'm pretty sure our reality doesn't float upon a gestalt ocean made up of the most horrifying emotions from a multitude of species. In this fictional universe, traversing this galaxy means sailing through those terrifying depths. In Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader you do so in your voidship - which is the focus of the new DLC, Void Shadows, and you can play it now. Read the rest of the story... Actors’ union SAG-AFTRA has been striking in protest of large gaming companies refusing to institute protections against AI to help preserve actors’ livelihoods. One more company has made the list: Formosa Interactive, an unassuming contractor you’ve likely never heard, but works on League of Legends. To understand Formosa’s role in the industry, one must first understand that voice acting is an expensive and immensely complicated endeavor. With so many different facets requiring different skillsets, from casting to directing, foley, project integration, and 10 other things I could name, most studios simply don’t have the resources or inclination to maintain their own voice acting departments, especially if their games are not particularly focused on story. That’s where Formosa comes in, letting larger companies outsource to them to take care of these particularly tricky elements of game development. They claim clients like League and Genshin Impact, but now they’ve landed in hot water thanks to alleged labor law violations. View the full article

Now, the third game in the series, My Time at Evershine, has been announced and is currently running a Kickstarter that leaped past its funding goal within minutes of the crowdfunding campaign's kick-off. Helldivers 2 has been in the hands of players for a little over seven months, so you'd think that any potential mistakes in the game's cutscenes would have been found and reported by now. Even then, developer Arrowhead probably double and triple checked to make sure its cutscenes were nice and polished before launch, yet despite all of this oversight, a mistake has made it into the game's intro cutscene. SAG-AFTRA, the labour union for ********* actors, has today called a strike against League of Legends. It said it was doing so because Formosa Interactive, a production company involved in making the game, had “tried to subvert” the video game strike which began in July after the union ******* to negotiate protections around the use of AI for its members. SAG-AFTRA accused Formosa, which has also worked on Call of Duty games and other high-profile titles like ****** Stranding and **** of War, of attempting to “cancel” one of its struck games. Image: Riot Games As the video game voice actor strike continues, SAG-AFTRA has added League of Legends to its list of struck video games. The union organization, consisting of over 160,000 members, also filed an unfair labor complaint against Formosa Interactive, one of the support studios that worked on the game. SAG-AFTRA members are now no longer allowed to work on or promote League of Legends. If Riot Games employs SAG-AFTRA talent for its esports productions, the strike could potentially impact the 2024 Worlds tournament that is set to begin tomorrow. Additionally, promotion of League of Legends’ spinoff show Arcane might also be affected as the show’s second season premieres in November. Riot Games has issued a statement on social media saying, “L... Continue reading… View the full article
The Screen Actors Guild — ********* Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has officially called a strike against League of Legends, with the union saying that a company that produces the game, Formosa Interactive LLC, tried to subvert the ongoing video game strike. SAG-AFTRA posted a strongly worded statement on its website today, accusing Formosa of “a flagrant violation of labor law.” According to the statement, Formosa allegedly tried to “cancel” one of its struck video games after the start of the strike. When the company was told that was not possible, SAG-AFTRA says, Formosa “secretly transferred the game to a shell company and sent out casting notices for ‘NON-UNION’ talent only.” SAG-AFTRA calls the alleged actions by Formosa “egregious violations of core tenets of labor law,” and has filed an unfair labor practice charge against the company with the National Labor Relations Board in response. Not only that, but SAG-AFTRA’s National Executive Director has called a strike against one of Formosa’s most popular titles, League of Legends, meaning all SAG-AFTRA members must cease any union-covered services they may have been providing for the game. “It’s bad enough that Formosa and other companies are refusing to agree to the fair A.I. terms that have been agreed to by the film, television, streaming, and music industries, as well as more than 90 other game developers,” SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said in a statement. “To commit ******** unfair labor practices is beyond the pale and won’t be tolerated by SAG-AFTRA members. Formosa will be held accountable, starting with an immediate strike of League of Legends.” “League of Legends is a game of champions. Instead of championing the union performers who bring their immense talent and experience to beloved characters, decision-makers at Formosa have chosen to try to evade and abandon them,” added Interactive Media Agreement Negotiating Committee Chair Sarah Elmaleh. “Such double-dealing is very disappointing from a longtime committed union signatory. And such regrettable choices are unnecessary when our union committee and staff are as collaborative and excited to create protected work as our performers love to collaborate with game makers, and love this work.” "Formosa will be held accountable, starting with an immediate strike of League of Legends.” SAG-AFTRA called the video game strike back in July, the main reason being that video game companies have not come to an agreement with actors over regulating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in their projects. The union notes in today’s statement that Formosa is “one of the members of the bargaining group that has refused to agree to protect our members against the unethical use of A.I.” Some positive momentum in the strike, however, was made earlier this month after Last Sentinel developer Lightspeed LA signed SAG-AFTRA’s agreement promising better rights for actors and protections against artificial intelligence. Following that announcement, the union revealed that 80 games signed their tiered-budget or interim agreement, “proving that the union’s provisions — which include common sense A.I. protections — are fair and achievable.” IGN has reached out to Riot Games, which publishes League of Legends, and Formosa for comment.
