The Free Lanes update is now available on all platforms, and Starfield players can now fly through space and travel between different planets. Unlike the instant jump mechanism that was previously in place, you can now enjoy the adventures of actually travelling in space. At its heart lies the brand new Cruise mode that makes all of it possible. Once it's in space, you'll now be able to activate the Cruise Mode. You'll need to wait for a prompt to appear that allows you to press the L1/LB button to activate the mode. Once activated, you'll now be able to expand your viewing area and decide the direction in which the ship will travel. Press the L3/LS button to accelerate and cover distances more quickly. When you're travelling in Cruise mode, a marker can sometimes appear on the screen. They will usually hint at any item of interest that might pop up in the space. You can select the item and press R1/RB to engage the autopilot mode to travel in a definite direction. Image via Bethesda That way, you can reach a target location without having to fly all the way manually. Once your ship reaches the location, it will automatically slow down for your convenience. During the Cruise mode, you can also exit your cockpit by pressing the Circle/B button. You can then explore the insides of your ship, interact with your crew, and more. Starfield Free Lanes encounters explained When you're flying your ship in Cruise mode, Free Lanes encounters can show up randomly. These are random points of interest that can show up in teh space when you travel. Sometimes, they will allow you to enjoy additional interactions with NPCs. Some of those will be beneficial for your adventures. Others might just be entertaining tales that you'll be able to enjoy. Valve is bringing Steam Link, its local network game-streaming app, to Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality headset, allowing Vision Pro users to play traditional games from their Steam library wirelessly from a nearby Mac or PC. We say "traditional games" because it's important to clarify that this does not stream VR games—only the sorts of games you would play on a traditional 2D display like a computer monitor or a TV. That said, this could lay some groundwork for VR games sometime in the future. But to be clear, Valve has not made any announcements about supporting SteamVR games on the Vision Pro. There were previously Steam Link apps for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Single-dev project Road to Vostok is now out on PC in early access, and there's a fair number of visual settings you can tweak to get the best possible results. Compared to the earlier versions of the demo, the day-one performance seems much improved. If you are experiencing stutters or lag, here are some settings you could try. Best graphics settings in Road to Vostok Before I deep dive into the settings, here's my current setup and its components. AMD Ryzen 5600G16 GB of DDR5 RAM12 GB Nvidia RTX 3060 Screenshot by Destructoid Here are the settings that I am currently using to run the game. Display: Fullscreenframes: 60Vsync: OffRender Resolution: MediumLighting Quality: MediumAnti-aliasing: MSAA 4X/OffDetail Shadows: OffWater Reflection: OnAmbient Occlusion: Off Here's a bit of an explainer about the settings that I have opted for. Frames: There are options to go 120 or higher, which also includes Unlimited. However, I have opted for 60 FPS as it ensures no lag on my setup.Vsync: Since you can't cap the FPS with VSync on, I have turned it off. You'll lose very little while reducing the load on your hardware. Anti-aliasing: I have opted for the default MSAA 4X, and the performance has been smooth. If you encounter lag, you should disable it to smooth out the load. While the overall performance is pretty smooth, I am expecting a few post-launch patches to improve the gameplay and other parts of Road to Vostok, and there will be new content during early access. Set to take place in the High Republic era – a relatively new venture for the franchise at large – Star Wars Eclipse remains almost entirely mysterious except for some narrative leaks reportedly spread by the developer itself. Just last month, Sony announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would be getting a PSSR 2 update, but now CD Projekt Red has followed up with a huge PS5 Pro update that'll drop on April 8. Cyberpunk 2077 famously had a problematic launch when it released on consoles in 2020, and even after it got patched up, it's been far behind the PC version. But since the PS5 Pro came out back in 2024, it's been a question of when, not if, CDPR would launch an update that'd bring the game closer to the PC version. Tomorrow's update will give PS5 Pro players access to three performance profiles: Ray Tracing Pro, Ray Tracing, and Performance. The Ray Tracing Pro mode is where you'll find most of the visual updates made specifically for the PS5 Pro, targeting 30-40 fps, with a new 'BVH8', or 8-way bounding volume hierarchy ray tracing implementation. CDPR didn't detail exactly how this works, but it looks like it'll track up to 8 rays of light to create more realistic reflections, shadows and global illumination. That's not quite to the same level as the Ray Tracing Overdrive mode on PC, but it should bring the PS5 Pro closer to the Ray Tracing Ultra preset on PC. CD Projekt's blog post doesn't say much of anything about the image quality offered by the 'Performance' mode, only that it'll target high frame rates. If it's anything like similar Performance modes on the PS5 Pro, it'll probably look pretty much the same as the base PS5, just with a much higher frame rate. Then, of course the regular 'Ray Tracing' mode will sit somewhere in the middle, targeting a solid 60 fps. We won't know exactly how well this Cyberpunk PS5 Pro update will look and run until it goes live on April 8, but the screenshots on the blog post look promising. Either way, I'll be downloading the update and trying it for myself when it goes live tomorrow morning. If CDPR was able to get it looking as good as the PC version, it'll go a long way to proving the power of PSSR 2. Bethesda Game Studios has published Starfield update 1.16.236 patch notes as it attempts to pull players back in with the Free Lanes update, Terran Armada DLC, and a PlayStation 5 (PS5) version. Details about the planet-sized content drop were published in a blog post on the publisher’s official website today. The list shows additions large and small as players gain access to quality-of-life features they’ve hoped to see for years as Starfield approaches its third anniversary. Free Lanes is the true headline of an already big day for Bethesda, as the company calls it its "biggest update yet." The previously promised free update adds major changes, such as the ability to travel freely between planets and a Cruise Mode, for players on PC, Xbox Series X | S, and now PS5. New space encounters, fleshed-out customization options, a new Database system, the new Moon Jumper land vehicle, additional POIs, and changes to new game+ are just the tip of the iceberg. The list of noteworthy features update is nearly 30 bullet points long and also includes an option to always show the landing camera, the new Château des Étoiles player house, and Muria Siarkiewicz as a crew member. Highlights in the fixes category, meanwhile, include improvements to weapon workbench placement on ships, a variety of squashed quest bugs, and more. The Free Lanes update and everything included in version 1.16.236 patch notes are available to Starfield players on all platforms at no extra cost. Those looking to get a bit more out of the Settled Systems can pick up the Terran Armada story expansion for $10. It comes with new locations and new weapons as players face the robotic, titular Terran Armada. Today, April 7, 2026, marks what could be the most important day for Starfield since its launch September 5, 2023. Although Bethesda’s shot at translating its beloved action-RPG formula released to big player numbers, many believe it failed to live up to its enormous expectations in the long run. Bethesda’s Todd Howard even went on to address some of the post-launch criticism in May 2024, calling attention to those who expected to receive another Fallout or Elder Scrolls but got something different. “Obviously, look, there are areas that… the maps or some other things, gameplay options, that we're adding, other display modes on console that people have asked for,” he said at the time, “and we want to do all that stuff, it takes some time but we're excited to get stuff out there.” Free Lanes, Terran Armada, and the PS5 port are Bethesda’s latest attempt to keep veteran Starfield fans coming back, while also trying to convince newcomers to try it out.
