  3. The Witcher games are one of the clearest examples of improvement over a series in videogame history. No backsliding here: The Witcher was a mess, The Witcher 2 was genuinely quite decent, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a masterpiece. The Witcher 3's success put CD Projekt Red on Sony's speed-dial, but it had other consequences as well... Read more.View the full article

  6. I’ve been playing Honkai: Star Rail since launch, and I find myself wanting a gameplay feature that’s so simple but has yet to be implemented. While new content is being added to HoYoverse’s turn-based RPG with every update, most of it revolving around new campaign missions and playable characters (such as Hyacine and Cipher in Version 3.4), the developer has been making an investment into turning the title more friendly to its players with several QoL (quality-of-life) updates. There has been a Relic update in Honkai: Star Rail 3.3, for example, expanding the maximum inventory limit for Relics and Ornaments. View the full article
  7. Fans of Frank Herbert’s Dune universe have dreamed of stepping foot on Arrakis for decades. It's a planet of endless deserts, colossal sandworms, and fierce political intrigue. While the books and films have offered vivid depictions of this iconic world, video games have often struggled to capture the sheer scale of the desert planet of Arrakis. Dune: Awakening is attempting to deliver not only the most expansive Dune game to date, but one that redefines what immersion in the Dune universe can look like. View the full article

  13. The upcoming collab between Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6 sees Akuma added to the game as a unique full set of armor players can equip. Similar to previous Monster Hunter games, this gives hunters unique actions signature to the world warrior to damage monsters through new skills. 14. Almost a year on from its initial release, Zenless Zone Zero version 2.0 has been announced, slated for release next month on June 6th. There's a lot coming in this new update, namely a new area to head to, the Waifei Peninsula, a "remote yet vibrant district of New Eridu." The story follows on from where the Sacrifice crisis was left off in previous chapters, seeing you "uncover the hidden secrets of Phaethon and experience new Hollow exploration gameplay that harnesses the forces of Ether." 15. Grand Theft Auto 6 is easily one of the most anticipated games of all time and will likely reign supreme as Rockstar's greatest achievement for quite some time. Everything we've seen so far - which is, admittedly, very little - has pointed to a pretty exceptional-looking experience that fans and newcomers alike are sure to enjoy. Of course, as great as Grand Theft Auto 6 may look, there is the small problem of it seemingly never releasing, with Rockstar only recently confirming its official release date, which is, naturally, all the way in 2026. 16. Enchanting in Oblivion, as those playing through the remaster are quickly discovering, is a bit of a headache. You need to fill your inventory with soul gems, finagle a soul trap spell or enchantment, and then fill those soul gems to recharge your gear. The problem is that enchantments run out very quickly in Oblivion, so you're constantly forced to repeat those steps just to ensure that you can deal an extra bit of frost damage, and you might end up wasting a larger soul gem by filling it with a mudcrab anyway. 17. There have been many challengers to Slay the Spire's throne, and my favorite among them has just made a return. Monster Train 2 is the successor to a beloved roguelike that earned itself an 'overwhelmingly positive' lifetime Steam rating from players. Putting aside the more divergent deckbuilders such as Balatro, the first Monster Train remains my most-loved entry in the genre. It's not definitively better than Slay the Spire, but I like it more; its pacing, style, and more targeted counterplay completely won my heart. Now, it's back, and the sequel is off to a phenomenal start, already outpacing its predecessor on Steam despite a simultaneous PC Game Pass launch. Read the rest of the story... The game had gained much attention from its several beta tests, making this a disappointing announcement for the many fans who were anticipating the full release of Battle Aces. View the full article
  19. Resident Evil was a very tough franchise, starting with the original 1996 game. The original Western release was made significantly more difficult than its Japanese counterpart, and the game was infamous as a challenging title back then. However, as time went on, the series became easier. There are still many brutal Resident Evil games to 100% complete, but throughout the years, there have been plenty of easy games as well. 20. You know what the main thing that's holding me back from picking up Elden Ring Nightreign at launch is? The fact it doesn't have an option for duos. For the most part I'm a single-player only kind of person, and when I play something online I normally like to do so with just my partner. I imagine I'm not the only person this applies to, nor am I likely to be the only one who thought "I don't really want some rando called xX_fartmaster_Xx third wheeling my partner and me." Luckily, FromSoftware seem to be at least considering a two-player option for the upcoming Soulslike. Read more View the full article

  23. Newly released card battler Monster Train 2 has different clans to explore, and not all of them are equally effective. Knowing how the clans and their respective cards work will allow you to win more battles and progress deeper in your runs. Out of the five clans in the game, only two are available at the start. You can work gradually towards unlocking the rest of them by completing in-game achievements, which will allow you to try out new cards. Here's a ranking of all five ranks based on my early in-game impressions of all of them. 5. Underlegion Screenshot via Shiny Shoe I am not a fan of the Underlegion clan, despite its ability to swarm enemies with multiple units. The objective is to use the Funguy on every floor and have more units than the enemies. The core spell cards rely on buffing up the Funguy. Using Propagate will allow your Funguys to apply different effects when they're killed or summoned. There's nothing wrong with the Underlegion cards, but they take a lot of time to power up. You'll have to go all the way in with this clan and unlock the best possible cards to make your life easier. It's better to avoid this clan if you're still learning the different mechanics. 4. Pyreborne Screenshot by Destructoid Pyreborne is an incredibly flexible clan that works on the backbone of Pyregel's ability. This ability causes enemy units to take more damage, and you can stack them as much as you want. While Firestarter applies Firegel on the enemy, your units will do amplified damage in turn. This is a hybrid clan that offers a bit of both offense and defense. The only downside is the amount of time Pyregel takes to build up, and you'll want to use the heavy hitters from Banished to make the most out of this clan. 3. Banished Screenshot by Destructoid I am skewed towards the Banished units because I love how you can move them constantly to build Valor. Valor is the strong point of this clan, as it will buff up your units pretty quickly. This clan can be slightly confusing if you're not playing the right cards at the right time. Many Banished units have the Shift ability, which means the more you move these cards, the more Valor they earn. Earning Valor is key as it will protect your units and also cause more damage in turn (based on the ability of the cards). Since the Banished is one of your two starter clans, you'll find it easier to unlock all the cards to complete the collection. 2. Luna Coven Screenshot via Shiny Shoe The Luna Coven is going to be the first clan to unlock for most of you in Monster Train 2, and the units are extremely strong. This is the best clan if you want to play cards with magical abilities. The cards and their abilities depend on controlling the moon cycles between Full and Half. You'll also want to increase your Conduit stacks, which will raise the power of your spells. While Luna Coven units work great for any playstyle, they're weak to begin with. Hence, I recommend this clan for those who have already spent a few hours mastering the mechanics. Combine this clan with another like the Banished, which offers good defensive measures. 1. Lazarus League Screenshot by Destructoid The Lazarus League is chaos personified in Monster Train 2, as it relies heavily on randomness. However, that factor makes this clan a fun one to use, and your units are almost never going to die. The backbone of this clan is the Reanimate ability, which brings your dead units back to life. Your resurrected units are also going to keep all the buffs alive, making the cards feel like cheat codes in some sense. That said, the cards will have an essence of randomness in how they work, and players who love consistency in terms of in-game effects might not be fans. However, I love using the cards, and it only gets better the more you level up this clan. The post All Monster Train 2 clans ranked appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
