The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally arrived, and the super upgraded Switch supports the vast majority of the original console's games on top of any new ones coming out, like Mario Kart World. If you're upgrading from Switch 1 to Switch 2 and no longer need the old console or just want to play all of your games and data on the new one, there's a handy and simple data transfer operation that you can do once you have both consoles next to each other. Here's what you need to do to transfer save data from Nintendo Switch 1 to Switch 2. How to transfer data from Nintendo Switch 1 to Switch 2 Screenshot by Destructoid The data transfer operation is part of the initial setup process of the Nintendo Switch 2 when you originally turn it on, but if you missed it or had to skip it, here's how to start it again. First, you will need both consoles in the direct vicinity of one another. Nintendo Switch 2's coolest new feature is Game Chat, allowing you to hang out with friends and talk with them while you play games. Game Chat increases the fun by allowing you to hook up a USB-C webcam so you can see your friends and even their game screens as you play. This is totally optional, too, and you can just use plain old voice chat like the old days as well. But in order to use Game Chat, there are a few prerequisites and things to know beforehand. Here's how to access Game Chat and use voice chat on Nintendo Switch 2. How to use Game Chat on Nintendo Switch 2 Image via Nintendo First, you need a webcam that connects via USB-C. Connect it to the Nintendo Switch 2 while in docked mode via the USB-C port on the top of the console, like in the stock image above from Nintendo. You will also need a smart device, like a smartphone, to sign up. Next, press the C button on your right JoyCon or Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. This will initialize the Game Chat setup. Agree to the Game Chat terms of service, and then use your smart phone to scan the QR code that appears on screen. Log in to your Nintendo account and then enter in your phone number to link Game Chat to your account. You will receive a code via text message that you must enter on the Nintendo website on your smart device to link your Nintendo Online account to Game Chat. Once linked, you can then access your friends list to choose who you approve to invite and accept invites from on your friends list. Once the setup is complete, any time you want to use Game Chat, simply press the C button. Now that most of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards have been released, it's clear that they give AMD and Intel their best opportunity this decade to claw back some market share and make the dedicated graphics card business a little less lopsided. It's not that the 50-series GPUs have been bad cards, but a focus on sometimes-useful, sometimes-not AI-generated frames and a lack of major manufacturing advancements relative to the 40-series have eroded Nvidia's usual lead in performance and power efficiency. That's the advantage AMD is trying to press with the new Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics cards, which at $299 and $349 for 8GB and 16GB are both priced and configured to comprehensively undercut Nvidia's RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti. As with the RX 9070 series earlier this year, the RDNA 4 architecture goes a long way toward addressing the RX 6000 and RX 7000-series' lackluster ray-tracing performance and mediocre power efficiency, and a relatively affordable 16GB version will help insulate buyers from the RAM limitations that are slowly but surely becoming more of a problem for 8GB cards. A new high-end AMD graphics card is reportedly being tested in the company's labs right now, with significantly more powerful specs than the company's current crop of GPUs, including large quantities of GDDR7 VRAM and very high clock speeds. The latest speculation says that the new GPU could potentially beat the RTX 5080 Super and RTX 4090, and is likely to be called the AMD Radeon RX 9090 XT or 9080 XT. Hi, everyone. I have a message for you, from one Elden Ring: Nightreign player to another: please stop beelining chapels at the start of each game to collect flask charges. I'm not the only one saying this! Fellow Nightfarers in the community have been sharing this PSA over the last few days to express frustration at what's becoming an annoyingly common habit when queuing with random players in Nightreign. Essentially, what's happening is this: in Nightreign, every map is riddled with a handful of small churches or chapels that contain a free upgrade to your healing flask, adding an extra charge. This is genuinely great! It's good to go after these! However, as players have gotten more comfortable with the gain and learned about this guaranteed, free reward, more and more people have developed a weird habit of beelining directly from chapel to chapel while doing literally nothing else, skipping camps of monsters and other rewards in favor of sprinting for five minutes, getting a charge, sprinting for five more minutes, repeat until it's nighttime. Why is this bad? Well, largely because collecting flasks is all well and good, but it's not helpful to be able to repeatedly heal yourself if you're getting one-shot by Wormface. Good Nightreign play is a balancing act: you have a limited amount of time before night falls and the big boss arrives, so you need to spend it wisely by fighting increasingly difficult monsters, raiding camps, collecting better weapons and items, and leveling yourself up. If you're not at least level five or six by the time the first night falls, the boss is just going to smash your face in with one shot — the extra flask won't help you. Therefore, an ideal strategy is to spend as little time running across the map as possible, and instead try to flow easily from place to place in close proximity to one another, grabbing flask charges where it makes sense in between raiding camps and fighting sub-bosses. And yet, in spite of this, every three or four times I ******, I end up with someone who keeps aggressively dropping map pins on chapel after chapel and running off on their own when we don't agree with the plan to spend half the game in a footrace across the map for a flask charge. Bud, I'm playing Recluse! I don't have any HP to heal in the first place! So yes. It's good to go to church and get right with our lord Marika. But it's also okay to have other, non-religious hobbies, like beating the snot out of this Abductor Virgin in the courtyard so we can get the map at the top of the tower and I can grab a new staff off the rack next to it. How do you feel about game-to-movie adaptations, Destructoid? While I may have some strong and negative opinions about, say, anime-to-live-action adaptations, I'm actually quite impressed by many recent movies and TV shows that originated from popular games. Occasionally, I'll hear news of a game I never expected to get a movie or TV show adaptation, only to find out it's getting one within the year. I was even surprised to hear about Phasmophobia getting a movie adaptation in partnership with Blumhouse. While there are a ton of mediocre options out there, there's also plenty of fantastic movie and TV show options to check out. One of my favorites is, of course, the most recent and ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog movies. I'll be honest: I initially expected these to either stray too far from the game series' main themes or give off uncanny valley vibes, leaving me pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the first two. I haven't had a chance to watch the third one yet, but I'll get there soon. [Hidden Content] We also can't forget some older works that pioneered the game-to-movie adaptation movement, with the 1995 Mortal Kombat film perhaps being one of the most beloved examples. Although I haven't personally seen this particular Mortal Kombat adaptation, it gets a special shoutout for being a fan favorite within my family. [Hidden Content] Although it isn't out just yet at the time of writing, I'm also looking forward to a recently announced Elden Ring movie. I've never touched Elden Ring, but I'm fascinated by its world and how it could look on the big screen. While it could end up being terrible, it could just as easily be one of the greatest game-to-movie adaptations ever created. All of this isn't even accounting for games that have been adapted into TV shows. I could go on for hours about how much I enjoyed shows like Arcane, Fallout, and Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The list goes on, and that's not even mentioning shows like The Last of Us that I've yet to watch but am often reminded of by friends and family. The Disney Dreamlight Valley team aired a developer update today, and it provided a look at everything we can expect to see arriving in the valley soon. One of the biggest announcements is the continuation of the main storyline as we finally unlock the ability to travel inside Skull Rock. Skull Rock will open in the Mysteries of Skull Rock update for Disney Dreamlight Valley, arriving on June 18. This iconic location from Peter Pan is bringing with it the film's protagonist and a surprising second villager—our old friend, The Forgotten. Image via Gameloft The last Dreamlight Valley story quest, not including DLCs, since they follow a separate narrative, was released with The Remembering update on June 7, 2023. This quest is called Between Skull Rock and a Hard Place, and during it, Skull Rock moved. Since then, we've all been eager to venture inside Skull Rock and discover what might be hiding inside. After waiting just under two years, the Mysteries of Skull Rock update is opening Skull Rock and freeing Peter Pan. He's the main new villager featured in this update, and he's bringing with him the lost boy's tree as his house, plus several friendship rewards to unlock. The second character included in this update is The Forgotten. Our dark, shadowy counterpart has been wandering the valley aimlessly since the last story quest, so with this update, we can finally befriend them, name them, and help them find purpose in the village. Image via Gameloft All new updates also bring with them fresh Star Path events to complete, and this one is no exception. The Adventures in Neverland Star Path is bringing plenty of pirate and mermaid-themed items to the valley, inspired by Peter Pan. This event features new Dream Styles for Minnie Mouse and Goofy, a pirate Monkey companion, a bubble-blowing conch machine, and much more. Critter companions are currently just adorable sidekicks who follow us around the valley, but they're getting a massive upgrade in the next update. All critters will have friendship levels and rewards, similar to those villagers possess, after this update launches. We'll also be able to name all companions who don't have set names from Disney films like Heihei and Pua. The first-ever dog critter companion is being added with this update, and it's none other than Prince Eric's loyal dog Max from The Little Mermaid. He's part of a Premium Shop bundle, so you have to spend Moonstones to add him to your collection. Deltarune, the multi-chapter sequel to 2015's indie smash hit Undertale, is currently blowing up on Steam thanks to the release of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 this morning after years of anticipation. The game itself has been out in some format since 2018, when creator Toby Fox posted a series of cryptic tweets before dropping an innocuous download entitled "SURVEY PROGRAM." That download turned out to be the first chapter of a new game, Deltarune, the name of which is an anagram for Undertale. After a cryptic introduction, the player controls a teenager named Kris who, with their school bully Susie, is dropped into a mysterious Dark World and tasked with saving its citizens by a goat-child named Ralsei. Deltarune's second chapter manifested in 2021, revealing something like an adventure-of-the-week format where Kris and Susie repeatedly visit the Dark World in each chapter, meet a new villain, defeat them alongside Ralsei, and return home. In total, the game is expected to have at least seven total chapters, and we've known three and four were coming today since Fox announced it in April. Deltarune, like Undertale, is a turn-based RPG with bullet hell mechanics, and features a cast of both new and returning characters from its predecessor. However, its connection to Undertale itself is mysterious — the characters themselves have key differences from their Undertale versions, no one seems aware of the events of Undertale, and yet the game frequently winks and nods to Undertale's events in a way that players of both will recognize, even if its in-universe cast doesn't. While the game itself is beloved for its zany humor, lovable characters, unique combat, and fantastic soundtrack, much of what fuels the nearly-rabid online interest is related to the mystery of what, precisely, Deltarune is, and how it will ultimately connect with or solve some of the latent mysteries of Undertale. At the time of this writing, Deltarune already has over 100,000 players on Steam and is the 10th most-played game on Valve's platform. It's already surpassed the peak Steam player count of the free Deltarune Chapter 1 and 2 demo, despite costing $25. It's the top-selling game on Steam right now by revenue, ahead of the likes of Counter-Strike 2, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and Dune: Awakening. But its true popularity will be much *******, given Deltarune is also out on PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series consoles now, and its Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions launch tonight at midnight when the Switch 2 officially releases. As players dive deeper into Elden Ring Nightreign's launch content, more discoveries are being made and Nightlords felled. Some Nightfarers would like a little bit of assistance, though, when it comes to knowing what's dropped on the ground. One post on the Nightreign subreddit that picked up a bit of traction is asking for more weapon info when items drop on the ground. Clearing a camp or point-of-interest in Nightreign tends to result in a decent amount of loot to sort through, and so the idea is that you'd like some more details to quickly scan over. As commenters have pointed out — and I went in to verify with a quick run — you are able to see a weapon class type by hitting R3 for details. This also provides info on Weapon Arts and passives, which helps a ton. You can still get confused by an item name in the heat of the moment, but otherwise, you'll need to pause for a moment and read over. It still doesn't account for scaling, though, and while commenters note scaling is incorporated into the overall damage number on a weapon, sometimes seeing scaling can help. For example, knowing a raw damage number only tells you the damage of one hit, not how fast you can swing it. It's uncertain whether that incorporates split damage weapons, either. In another, potentially more controversial post, one Redditor suggested loot names on the drops, in colored text. This one honestly got a mixed reaction from me, as I don't know that seeing a bunch of cluttered names littered on the ground would help that much. I also like the stress of picking an item up off the ground and debating its merits, pit against the ticking clock and urgency of the Night closing in. Still, in this thread, others are asking for the same clarity in the previous one. While scaling and other details can be found in the sparring grounds, through the equipment chest, that does mean internalizing a lot of knowledge or having a wiki handy. There's some desire for even a few extra tidbits of info, to help make those swift calls and decisions. It's an understandable desire, even if I'm not sure that any of the suggestions yet have looked like the right implementation. FromSoftware is clearly paying attention to player feedback though, as evidenced by its quick patch to nerf solo player difficulty and the commitment to adding a Duos mode. We'll see if this is an area FromSoftware feels like it needs to fine-tune, or if it's left as-is. Either way, some study time in the sparring grounds could ultimately do every Nightfarer some good, in their quest to take down the Nightlord.
