  1. Steam users once again have a free game that they can add to their digital libraries, but anyone interested has to do so by April 20. There have been multiple free Steam games given away in April 2026 representing a wide variety of genres. One such genre that Steam users have been able to partake in at absolutely no cost is horror, with a first-person horror game given away for free earlier in the month. View the full article
  2. Xbox Game Pass is scheduled to lose five games later today, with the April 15 departures including Grand Theft Auto 5, one of the highest-rated titles on the service. In spite of these imminent library losses, the first half of April 2026 has still been a notable net positive for the size of the Xbox Game Pass catalog. View the full article
  3. It's no surprise why USB portable monitors are becoming so popular. They provide extra screen real estate for laptop users and they're much slimmer and lighter than your average monitor so you can carry them around. Many newer laptops now have USB ports that can power the monitor so that you don't even need to plug it into an outlet. Talk about convenience! For a limited time Amazon is offering the Anyuse 15.6" USB Portable Monitor for $39.99 with free shipping and no Prime membership required. It's sold by a marketplace vendor but it ships from Amazon (and customer service is handled by Amazon). This was actually our best selling portable USB monitor during the Amazon Spring *****. In addition to boosting productivity on a laptop, the monitor also works as a totable display for your Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Anyuse 15.6" 16" 1080p USB-C Portable Monitor for $39.99 The Anyuse is a 15.6" monitor that's designed to be portable. It weighs just under 1.4 pounds and measures 0.4" thin. It sports a sturdy metal frame and includes a smart cover that has a built-in kickstand. The 15.6" display features a 1080p resolution (141ppi) with 60Hz refresh rate, an IPS panel with 100% sRGB color gamut, wide great viewing angles, and an anti-glare matte surface. It even has built in speakers for the times you need audio in a pinch. Connectivity options include two USB Type-C ports and one mini HDMI port to connect to a laptop, tablet, or handheld gaming PC for use as a main or secondary display. If your device is equipped with a USB Type-C output with Power Delivery, then a single cable can be used for both video and power. Otherwise, you'll need two cables: a mini HDMI or USB Type-C cable for video and a second USB Type-C cable to a wall charger for power. Compatible with Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck This monitor works quite well paired with a gaming handheld like the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. You will have to use the two-cable setup (one USB cable to the handheld, one USB cable to a wall charger) for this to work properly. The 1080p 60Hz panel best complements the Nintendo Switch, since the Switch only supports up to 720p @ 60Hz anyway. The Steam Deck and Switch 2 can support higher resolutions and refresh rates, but at that point you're really taxing your system, and 1080p/60Hz on a smaller display is an ideal balance between visual fidelity and playable framerates. 4. Dice Throne, a head to head fighting board game powered by a Yahtzee-style dice-rerolling system, is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to develop a digital edition. With $325,373 pledged against its $100,000 goal, the project is already fully funded - but a lot of fans of the tabletop game are disgruntled by the $60 price tag on the Kickstarter. 5. Phantasmal Flames' Charizard, Mega Evolutions' Lucario and Gardevoir, and Ascended Heroes' countless chases have left a huge shadow that Pokémon Perfect Order currently resides in. Compared to other recent Pokemon sets, this small expansion isn't full of Big Names but, from my own experience, it has excellent pull rates and gorgeous cards, so don't sleep on it, I say. Fortunately, it hasn't flown off shelves like hotter sets, and right now, you can get a Perfect Order Elite Trainer Box full of Pokémon cards below market price at Walmart. 8. The collaboration between Cookie Run: Kingdom and KPop ****** Hunters has officially launched. What at first glance seems like an unusual crossover between a game about cute pastries and a movie centered around K-Pop music makes much more sense after taking into account the fact that the developers of Cookie Run: Kingdom, Devsisters, are based in South Korea. The collaboration between its game and the two-time Oscar-winning film thus serves not only to promote both productions, but also provides an opportunity to highlight the Korean influences and elements that Devsisters has incorporated into its strategy RPG. 10. A new Marathon update finally adds the one thing it's been desperately missing - a reason to respect your fellow players. The immaculate style and Bungie's trademark FPS game fundamentals make Marathon easy to get into, but the immediately hostile nature of basically every encounter with another real person can quickly grow stale and frustrating. Compared to Arc Raiders, which has that 'will they or won't they' tension of trying to convince other teams to work alongside you, it's rather one-note. But not any more. 11. Mark your calendars, Pokopia fans. The game's next big limited-time event now has a date, and it stars the OG Grass Starter, Bulbasaur The limited-time event, called Bulbausar's Jump Rope Contest, kicks off on April 19 and will run until April 26 at 4:59am local time. As its name suggests, the event revolves around Bulbasaur's jump rope mini game, and prizes will be awarded based on players' scores. To earn points, you have to jump over Bulbasaur's vine jump rope without getting tripped up. While the event is live, players can compete alongside others in their worlds or on Cloud Islands in a multiplayer version of the event. "In another player’s world, both the host and guests can participate in the jump rope contest, including those playing in spectator mode," the event's official page reads. "The highest number of jumps recorded by any participating player will become that world’s high score, but only the host will receive prizes." Have you brushed up on your jump rope skills? Image via Nintendo Cloud Islands will work a little bit differently. All players on the island can participate, but the highest number of jumps by any participant will be attributed to the Cloud Island's high score. Only the player who logged that number of jumps will earn prizes. Though we don't currently know the full list of prizes available for players, we do know there will be a trophy for players to earn that they can then put on their islands to prove their skill. Though Pokopia's next limited-time event doesn't officially begin until April 19, you can start the festivities early by setting your Nintendo Switch 2's internal clock to the date through its console settings. If you're wanting to practice your jumping skills before it begins, though, you can currently try out Bulbasaur's jump rope mini game by talking to the Grass Starter. Pokopia's last limited-time event that introduced a new item to the game was the April Fools' Day event with the Inflatable Sudowoodo decoration. Before that, Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff made their debut in the life-sim with the "More Spores for Hoppip" event that introduced a host of themed items for the evolution line. According to data-mined info, the next event after Bulbasaur's will introduce Sableye and will require players to collect a new currency from Dream Islands much like Hoppip's Cotton Spores. 13. The Ashes of Creation lawsuit continues to rumble on at pace, and former Intrepid Studios founder and game director Steven Sharif has delivered a fresh statement alleging a "deliberate misinformation and defamation campaign" against him. Astonishingly, it's been only two months since the dramatic implosion of the MMORPG and its studio, and a deep legal battle between Sharif and a group of investors led by Robert Dawson is ongoing. In his latest message, Sharif brings up a reported $250 million offer from League of Legends maker Riot Games, which he claims he was advised against accepting. Read the rest of the story...
