  2. Despite Steam already having plenty of favor among fans for its consistent customer service and new features to look forward to, it seems there's yet another on the horizon, with the sole benefit of helping you save money. 6. Destiny 2 finally got some long-anticipated new content with the release of Iron Banner, which brought Micromort as a bonus addition. This Arc-aligned rocket launcher is one of the few weapons in its class adapted to the tier system, so with some luck, you can get it with triple perks. Meta rocket launchers usually stick close to a tried-and-true formula—and good news, that's exactly what a god-rolled Micromort provides. It also has an enviable amount of elemental synergy, though on arguably the least favorable weapon type for them. While Micromort's Precision Frame deals less damage than its competitors (to offset its built-in tracking), the best options available are pretty strong in their own right, making it a comfortable rocket launcher to use in the absence of strong competitors like Hezen Vengeance. Here are our Micromort PvE god rolls in Destiny 2, based on perk data from [Hidden Content]. Micromort PvE god rolls in Destiny 2 The non-Holofoil isn't as impressive. Image via Bungie Launcher: Quick LaunchMag: Impact Casing, High-Velocity Rounds, or Alloy CasingFirst perk: Envious ArsenalHonorable mentions: Cluster Bomb, Clown Cartridge, Impulse Amplifier, or ReconstructionSecond perk: Bait and Switch or BipodHonorable mentions: Chain Reaction or Paracausal AffinityMicromort god roll: Third column There's a narrow list of what you want on a rocket launcher for boss damage, and Micromort has the gold standard in the current sandbox: Envious Arsenal paired with Bait and Switch. It's a devastating, synergistic combination that bypasses one of rocket launchers' biggest weaknesses (their reload speed) while boosting the category's strong damage numbers. That said, Micromort's fourth column has a slew of different options that also work well depending on what you'd like to get out of this rocket launcher. Cluster Bomb brings some extra damage, especially if you're running Alloy Casing or High-Velocity Rounds as your magazine option. Faster-reloading magazines also make Clown Cartridge an excellent choice, since you're guaranteed to get at least two rounds per reload without needing to swap weapons. Impulse Amplifier and Reconstruction are still good choices on their own, but they need a little juice to compete with the top choices here. Neither the nerfed Field Prep nor Lead From Light is worth getting unless in truly specific scenarios, such as using Bipod and a double-special loadout. Micromort god roll: Fourth column If you're going for the best of the best, Bait and Switch is heads and shoulders ahead of the rest of the competition for pure boss damage scenarios, and that's easily the must-have perk on our god roll list. Micromort's fourth column would be filled with great contenders on a primary weapon, but for a rocket launcher, you can safely ditch most of the elemental synergies. This basically leaves Bipod as a general-use choice, bringing the launcher a tad closer to add-clear or orange-bar duty. Bipod gets you more rockets both in your mag and reserves, though that comes with a damage penalty. Paracausal Affinity and Binary Orbit are slightly different from your usual on-kill perks: they activate even if your weapon is stowed, but they sit at an awkward middle ground between damage and utility. They're good if you need to take down a Champion or miniboss, such as in a Grandmaster Vanguard Alert or Pinnacle Ops, but they're not as useful if you're going up against boss phases without adds. Lastly, cross Voltshot and Rolling Storm off your list. Instead of relying on a rocket launcher for elemental synergy, it's best to save that for something that doesn't use purple ammo. How to get Micromort in Destiny 2 You're bound to see it come back in Call To Arms. Image via Bungie Micromort is temporarily available as a reward during Iron Banner between April 14 and 21, though it's extremely likely to return in a future issue of Call to Arms. The game lists its source as "events," and the API shows multiple Holofoil variants, so it's safe to assume it'll come back at some point. It also boasts the Nail, Meet Hammer origin trait, present in other event weapons such as King Orfeo and The Heron from Arms Week. 7. The Needle in a Haystack is the first main story quest that feels like a challenge in Windrose. It has several tasks, and one of them involves completing a grueling fight in the oceans. While the locations for most of the tasks will be marked on the map, the tasks themselves are quite difficult. Table of contentsWindrose Needle in a Haystack quest walkthroughSearch the Pirate camps in the FoothillsBoard the UnsinkableSearch the camp near the ruinsCollect the temple keysSpeak with the surviving captiveWindrose Needle in a Haystack quest walkthrough The Needle in a Haystack quest can be broken down into five important parts. Search the Pirate camps in the FoothillsBoard the UnsinkableSearch the camp near the ruinsCollect the temple keysDefeat HandsSearch the Pirate camps in the Foothills For the first task, head to the Foothills location and go all the way to the western part of the map. You'll find a camp and deal with the enemies nearby. Head inside and loot everything you can find. This will complete the first task. Screenshot by Destructoid Board the Unsinkable The second task is a hard one to complete, as you'll need the help of your ship. Head east, and you'll soon come across four Blackbeard's ships. Shoot cannonballs at them to destroy and sink them in the ocean. Once the initial ships are cleared, you'll find the Unsinkable approaching towards you. Focus your fire on the Unsinkable, and steer your ship properly to avoid getting hit. Screenshot by Destructoid While you can narrow down your distance with Unsinkable, keep some gap so that you can dodge the incoming shots. Make sure to be on the move to make it harder for the AI to target your ship. Once the Unsinkable has taken sufficient damage, take your ship close. This will allow your allies to board the ship and finish the remaining enemies. Search the camp near the ruins Once the Unsinkable is dealt with, you'll need to head to the camp near the ruins. Go to the northwestern part of the map, and head towards the foothills (there will be a quest marker, so it won't be much trouble). Since you'll be traveling through the forest, you'll encounter wolves along the way. Kill all the enemies you can find at the camp, and keep a distance from the grenades that they will throw at you. Explore the camp after killing the enemies, and you'll find a desk to your left. Interact with the desk to get the next task. There will be a few more enemies that you'll need to clear before you can collect the temple keys. Collect the temple keys The next quest marker will take you to another camp in the Foothills area. Located at the northern side of the map, you'll need to examine a dead pirate's pocket to collect the temple keys. Getting the keys will set up the fight where you'll need to defeat Hands. Image via Kraken Express I am currently working on a dedicated guide about how to defeat Hands. In short, finding his location isn't a worry (again, use the marker). The ideal way to defeat Hands is to land counter hits. Watch out for his attacks, and perform your attacks at the same moment. If you time them right, this will parry the incoming attacks and damage Hands instead. Speak with the surviving captive Image via Kraken Express Once you defeat Hands, you'll find a survivor named John chained to the wall. Speak with him, and rescue him from the trap. To finish the quest, you'll need to speak with the cartographer. This part is simple: just travel back to your home base, and you'll find John along with Doctor Galen. This will finish the Needle in a Haystack quest. The post How to complete Needle in a Haystack in Windrose appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  8. Being enjoyable throughout no longer suffices. Great games require a memorable ending. They often stick in the mind for the wrong reasons. Some games end on a straight-up bizarre note, so let's have a laugh and reminisce, now that you're hopefully no longer mad at them. Heavy spoilers to follow, of course. Sonic and the Secret Rings has Sonic going full villain and not realizing it [Hidden Content] The Sonic The Hedgehog series of games never scored high marks for gripping drama or epic climaxes, so you know this is going to be bad, bad. By the end of Sonic and the Secret Rings, the inexplicable Arabian Nights-inspired entry, Sonic gets to make three wishes. He uses one to bring Shahra, one of the many human women he somehow has falling for him in every game, back to life. That's a good wish, but once he's all out of wishes, he realizes an immense sadness is consuming Shahra. He attempts to fix this by asking Shahra for one final wish. Does he wish for her sadness to go away? For some smart material or immaterial change that would help with her condition? Well, no. He asks her to spawn a literal mountain of handkerchiefs so that she has something to wipe her tears with forever. This is so devoid of empathy that it'd be a great choice of wish for a cheeky villain, but Sonic does this earnestly, and it plays out as if this truly is a heartfelt way to end a story. The UFO ending from Silent Hill: Homecoming can accidentally destroy your entire playthroughhttps://youtu.be/lwW3GV9kE84 Imagine being on the cusp of finally unraveling all the mysteries in a game and finding an emotional conclusion to your narrative, then seeing your main characters being taken away by a UFO, never to return, and never getting any sort of explanation as to why the hell that happened. That can totally happen to you in Silent Hill: Homecoming, which I assume can only be one of the most jarring experiences in gaming for anyone unaware of the series' famous UFO endings. Silent Hill games have always had joke endings, most of which have to do with aliens and UFOs. I love them all, except for one. The thing about these endings is that they're extra. Players can only get them on second or further playthroughs, and only when players make some really bizarre choices that lead them to an equally eerie conclusion. This article won't judge the merits of optional endings in games, but Silent Hill: Homecoming's UFO conclusion isn't optional at all. The string of decisions one must make to get abducted isn't far-fetched at all, meaning it's actually pretty easy to get this bonkers but completely unfunny ending by accident. Fallout 3's original good ending was so bad that they changed ithttps://youtu.be/tzpgMzP9pIg There's no more dramatic ending to a story about saving the world than when the hero sacrifices their own life for a greater cause, but that applies only when that's by the hero's own choosing. In Fallout 3, a game that belongs to a series known for excellent experimentation with player agency, we don't really have that choice. To save the world, you are forced to enter a chamber where you'll be irradiated to death, even when accompanied by a friend who's totally impervious to radiation, who could've easily performed that task in their stead, preventing anyone from dying. In case you're wondering, you can even actually ask your radiation-immune friend to take your place, but he'll reply with something that translates to "you know plot armor? Well, now you have the opposite of that. Time to die!" Fans found this ending so silly that the devs decided to fix it—for anyone who'd acquire the Broken Steel DLC, that is. Tomb Raider The Last Revelation's ending kills off Lara Croft out of despair and exhaustionhttps://youtu.be/Cmrq0V8Hlxw All Tomb Raider games end with Lara taking what she went to get, then stylishly running into the sunset, all except for Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, where she just dies from getting crushed after a fall. And sure, that's easily the most game-accurate death Lara could have, but it's just bizarre to see such a beloved hero meet their demise in such an abrupt manner. It turns out that the reason for this choice was even wilder. Back in the Late '90s, the Tomb Raider series' success could only be compared to how much its devs hated making the games. What had begun as a really cool endeavor quickly turned into grueling work hours with no time to rest for years on end, so the developers took a stand. The devs decided to kill off Lara at the end of the game because they could no longer take it, believing that the execs would just be unable to force the devs into another development cycle, since Lara was dead, and no way that capitalism would have the power to resurrect her on the fly, right? Interesting try, but as soon as they were done with TLR, the devs had to immediately begin work again on Tomb Raider Chronicles, where we played in various past adventures as Lara's friends reminisce about her during her wake. Now that's how you pay your respect to beloved heroes and to your developers at the same time. Mass Effect 3—need we say more? The first two Mass Effect titles remain some of the most interesting sci-fi of all time, and in no small part because they truly do make the player feel like their decisions will impact the destiny of the entire galaxy. Mass Effect 3, which was made after the departure of the series' main writer, seems to forget that important lesson. Even though it supposedly features multiple endings, which players will reach depending on their decisions, they all bring about the same underwhelming conclusion . The only real difference between them the different-colored strobes hitting the player's eyes throughout the entire thing. This is not just a bad ending to one game; it's a terrible way to wrap up a once-great series about choice. IT so much backlash that the developers had to remake it, and somehow managed to remain bad. The Lost World: Jurassic Park's ending is peak Jeff Goldblumhttps://youtu.be/HuYUoLM8BNA Video game tie-ins tend to *****, but The Lost World: Jurassic Park is special in the sense that it'd be better than the movie it's tied to, even if that movie didn't *****. It's a truly fun title that's also way superior to the Lost World tie-in for the ***** Saturn, a console featuring hardware leagues ahead of the Genesis. Still, because this version only came out for the Genesis once most saw that console as even more extinct than the dinosaurs (in our world, not in Jurassic Park world), few know about that, or about the game's bizarre ending where Jeff Goldblum—yeah, the guy himself, not his Dr Ian Malclom character—takes one second to congratulate players on beating the game, right before going full '90s dad and telling them to go outside and try to get in touch with someone of the opposite sex. A true masterclass in backhanded complimenting. The post The strangest endings in video games, ranked appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  9. The rumor mill is swirling loudly and quickly that a new God of War game is set to be announced very soon, on top of the already-confirmed God of War Trilogy remake of Kratos's Greek saga. More info about a supposed mainline sequel from director Cory Barlog has been trickling in of late, and the latest news points to a myriad of regional mythologies taking center stage as opposed to just one main one like previous games. Screenshot by Destructoid According to a report by MP1st, the next God of War game will feature Mayan, ********, and Japanese mythologies as part of an adventure starring playable characters Faye (Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother) and Tyr (the Norse god of war). Faye, played by Daredevil: Born Again actress Deborah Ann Woll in God of War: Ragnarok, will wield a talking sword and have a "gelatinous cube" as a companion, according to the reports. Needless to say, if true, it may be a big departure from the series' roots with Kratos. Kratos will make an appearance of some kind, though, with other rumors stating that he will be in the game and also wield Egyptian-themed weaponry, so this game could end up being a globe-trotting experience across many mythologies. Color me very intrigued. All of this is unconfirmed so far, but I have to say, the game sounds so weird that it could end up being incredible. And with Santa Monica Studio's track record, there's really no reason to believe that it wouldn't be, even if gamers won't be playing as Kratos. Between Faye's legend as a great Jötunn warrior and Tyr's prowess as basically the Norse version of Ares, we can assume they will be kicking all kinds of ****. And with other mythologies on the table, like ******** legends such as Sun Wukong, or Japanese mythological figures like Amaterasu and Ryujin, we may have another epic on our hands. I just hope it's all true. Earlier this year, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson reported that the rumored new game would be announced "very soon, and in April as well," so the clock is ticking on that unless plans may have changed behind the scenes. 21. It's no surprise why USB portable monitors are becoming so popular. They provide extra screen real estate for laptop users and they're much slimmer and lighter than your average monitor so you can carry them around. Many newer laptops now have USB ports that can power the monitor so that you don't even need to plug it into an outlet. Talk about convenience! For a limited time Amazon is offering the Anyuse 15.6" USB Portable Monitor for $39.99 with free shipping and no Prime membership required. It's sold by a marketplace vendor but it ships from Amazon (and customer service is handled by Amazon). This was actually our best selling portable USB monitor during the Amazon Spring *****. In addition to boosting productivity on a laptop, the monitor also works as a totable display for your Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Anyuse 15.6" 16" 1080p USB-C Portable Monitor for $39.99 The Anyuse is a 15.6" monitor that's designed to be portable. It weighs just under 1.4 pounds and measures 0.4" thin. It sports a sturdy metal frame and includes a smart cover that has a built-in kickstand. The 15.6" display features a 1080p resolution (141ppi) with 60Hz refresh rate, an IPS panel with 100% sRGB color gamut, wide great viewing angles, and an anti-glare matte surface. It even has built in speakers for the times you need audio in a pinch. Connectivity options include two USB Type-C ports and one mini HDMI port to connect to a laptop, tablet, or handheld gaming PC for use as a main or secondary display. If your device is equipped with a USB Type-C output with Power Delivery, then a single cable can be used for both video and power. Otherwise, you'll need two cables: a mini HDMI or USB Type-C cable for video and a second USB Type-C cable to a wall charger for power. Compatible with Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck This monitor works quite well paired with a gaming handheld like the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. You will have to use the two-cable setup (one USB cable to the handheld, one USB cable to a wall charger) for this to work properly. The 1080p 60Hz panel best complements the Nintendo Switch, since the Switch only supports up to 720p @ 60Hz anyway. The Steam Deck and Switch 2 can support higher resolutions and refresh rates, but at that point you're really taxing your system, and 1080p/60Hz on a smaller display is an ideal balance between visual fidelity and playable framerates.
