  1. Merchants are a key part of character progression in No Rest for the Wicked. Weapons, armor, upgrades, materials, Runes, and more are most reliably found from the merchants in **********. Although the town has seen better days, the merchants inside are still happy to take coin. View the full article
  2. Harold Halibut has the vibes of a game that should be 4-6 hours long and is, inexplicably, 10-12. It's inexplicable not only because it's a slow game low on interaction - the game is really just a plot delivery mechanism; a TV show you can walk around where you advance the story by pressing A - but also because it's a game created using handmade miniatures. It's a sci-fi animated dolls house under the sea, self described as "a cross between a game and a stop motion film", and if my game required that amount of labour I'd edit that script down. Then again, there aren't that many locations, so maybe you'd really want to show them off. I love miniatures, and Harold Halibut is beautiful. It's also a lovely story about finding yourself and your place in the world, even if that place is unexpected, and having the courage to take that step. There are unexpected silly bits and strange bits and bits where people break into song, and bits where you read undelivered letters. But, at the same time, I totally understand why some people would find it boring. Read more View the full article
  3. In the Resident Evil games, the monsters that hunt you are impossible and cartoonish. The zombie dogs bursting through the windows of the Spencer mansion. William Birkin stalking you through the RPD building. The fixed-camera classics mix outlandish, imaginative monster designs with bizarro puzzles to create unease, discomfort, and suspense. So let's imagine that we dial that back. Let's picture a horror game that takes cues from the mechanical and structural basics of RE, but ******** grounded in reality and authenticity. Set in the unforgiving confines of WWI, an upcoming indie achieves just that. Also inspired by the enigmatic storytelling of Dark Souls, PCGamesN played it first-hand at WASD 2024, and spoke with its creator about making ***** feel more real. Read the rest of the story... 6. Housemarque has celebrated the third anniversary of Returnal with an announcement for a spin-off graphic novel titled 'Fallen Asteria'. It will be released on October 22, 2024, and is available to preorder now at Amazon for $19.99. The listing description reads: "After Helios crashes onto a hostile alien world, Selene Vassos, a lone ASTRA scout must ****** for her life against the horrific hostiles that live beyond every shadow and a trail of distorted memories. Can she hold on long enough to track down the White Shadow signal? Mystery shrouds the world of Atropos and Selene begins to wonder: will she find answers at the end of her journey, or is this nightmare inescapable?" It's being created by the Housemarque brand team with assistance from Returnal's Narrative team, including Gregory Louden, Eevi Korhonen, and Khalil Osaimi, alongside the art of Igor Lomov and Aaron Järvinen. There's also a new 'Art of Returnal' hardcover release that will be out on the same day, and is also up at Amazon. If you do preorder either of these, you'll be protected by Amazon's preorder price guarantee, so you'll pay the lowest price the listing hits between now and when it ships. Plus, you'll also not pay anything until the graphic novel is sent out to you. So, if you're worried about missing out if stock levels drop off, it's a fairly low risk to submit an order now and just cancel it later on if you change your mind. Alongside the rest of the anniversary announcements, Housemarque has also created an animated adaptation for the upcoming Fallen Asteria graphic novel. Another year, another cycle. The Third time around, extra loot is exposed with Dark Horse flair. -Returnal: Fallen Asteria, Graphic Novel -Returnal Artbook -Fallen Asteria, Animated Adaptation [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Housemarque (@Housemarque) April 30, 2024 Sony acquired Housemarque in June 2021, just months after the release of Returnal. No other details about the project have been revealed yet. Diablo 4 is also down to just $30 right now on PS5, and if you're interested, the PlayStation Portal is still back in stock at Best Buy. 8. Attention, all Gray Zone Warfare players. If you’re getting ready to delve into the new extraction-based tactical shooter on Steam, you might want to hang on to your wallet for a second, because it turns out the various “editions” don’t actually include the base game. On April 26, Gray Zone Warfare developer MADFINGER Games debuted multiple editions that all became available for purchase on April 30. There are several options to choose from, but none of them give you access to the main game. Yes, you read that right—if you were wondering why the editions were on a discount, now you know. 9. New leaks about Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 have hinted at a potential update to the Simulated Universe and, with it, a memorable new boss ******. After completing the tougher encounters, players get to farm Planar Ornaments, which are key items for every character they are, for instance, crucial for Aventurines build in Honkai: Star Rail. 10. As one of the most popular tactical shooters in the world, VALORANT is notoriously known for its unfair remake system. People leaving games will always happen, but the community is getting increasingly vocal about this broken feature. On April 29, a player on VALORANT’s subreddit proposed an interesting solution that could change the game for the better. By changing the remake system to act on its own, the game would automatically reset after the second round. View the full article

  12. Image: Nintendo The best way to experience Endless Ocean Luminous is to just swim. A follow-up to a series of scuba diving games on the Wii, Luminous has a story to play through and goals to accomplish. But they’re fairly mundane. Instead, the game is at its most interesting — and relaxing — when you let go of specific goals and just explore for the sake of exploring. What makes Luminous so chill, at least when you’re going for a solo *****, is that it’s completely open-ended and devoid of roadblocks. You’re given a huge swath of the so-called Veiled Sea to explore (the game generates a new map with each *****), and you don’t have to worry about monitoring your oxygen, getting too cold, or running into a dangerous shark. There’s no way to **** or even get... Continue reading… View the full article
  13. After a couple of months of consistent updates for Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe has released yet another patch that adjusts the game and while it may not be massive in terms of content, it should make a particular kind of farmer very happy. While the farming RPG may be nearly a decade old, it continues to be one of the best-supported video games in recent memory as its creator continues to listen to the community's feedback. The recent 1.6 Update was one of the biggest expansions to date, so it stands to reason that some bugs need to be squashed. View the full article
  14. VALORANT Episode Eight, Act Three officially goes live today with the launch of patch 8.08. In this final act of the eighth episode, two of the agents that have been the most impactful in the current meta are receiving significant changes. Alongside these two major agent updates, patch 8.08 also includes some long-awaited changes to Premier and a number of bug fixes. Here’s the rundown of all the highlights of VALORANT patch 8.08, starting with easily the biggest change to the meta in a long time. View the full article
  15. Riot Games has reined in Viper’s power with venomous nerfs in VALORANT Patch 8.08. From her strategic prowess to her ability to control the battlefield, the agent’s dominance in the pro scene and below has been undeniable—but it will soon no longer be her world. These changes to the poisonous controller focus on reducing her total stalling uptime and forcing players to manage her abilities more strategically. Patch 8.08 should make Vipers’ weaknesses clear, pushing her to commit to her positioning while trying to manage shorter individual up times per smoke use. View the full article
  16. If you, like most VALORANT players, are tired of being tormented by Cypher’s invincible trap setups, Patch 8.08 finally bears good news. With Episode Eight, Act Two, Riot Games has added some much-needed balancing changes to the sentinel’s kit, toning down his dominance for good. Starting VALORANT Patch 8.08, Cypher’s Trapwires now take longer to rearm after trigger, as well as inflict its Slow effect for a shorter duration than before. In addition, his Spy Cam plays a noticeable audio cue when Cypher uses it to watch enemies. Well, Riot clearly heard what the community had to say about the Moroccan spy not having enough counterplay. View the full article
  17. VALORANT Patch 8.08 may not have a long list of new changes or exciting additions like a new *******, agent, or map, but it is easily one of the most impactful updates in a long time. The focal point of Patch 8.08 is the collection of changes implemented to Viper, who has notably been the focal point of the competitive VALORANT meta for a long time. These changes will make Viper’s utility less powerful and overwhelming, and should drastically change how she’s used and how often she’s used in competitive, Premier, and pro play. 18. The latest Helldivers 2 ***** shows a plasma ******* that will reportedly be available in the future. Over the past months, Helldivers 2 players have been treated to leaks that revealed details about the upcoming content. 19. An Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim streamer created a mod which let his Twitch chat control what the game's NPCs said in real time, with expectedly hilarious and horrifying results. As reported by Kotaku, Twitch streamer Blurbs shared a clip from the stream on X/Twitter, below, which shared a compilation of some of the most ridiculous results. Beyond the Twitch chat's comments merely appearing on screen, the mod converts them to speech in the style of the Skyrim characters and moves their lips to match. "I have never made a game mod before. Chat can live voice NPCs. It's gonna go horribly," Blurbs said to open the stream. I created a Skyrim mod that allows my Twitch chat to voice in-game characters (with mouth movements/subtitles/etc) *live* in real-time. It went as horribly as you'd expect. Also, if you **** in the game: YOU **** IN REAL LIFE [Hidden Content] — Blurbs (@Blurbstv) April 29, 2024 One NPC he approached was a woman in Riverwood, who in her usual voice, declared: "It's said that the lord of all dragons, Alduin, was born in 1998 when the Undertaker threw mankind off ***** in a cell and plummeted 16 feet through the announcers table." A Whiterun Guard said: "Hello there. I'm brought to you by Raid: Shadow Legends." There are plenty of other examples too, many of which are quite explicit. With The Elder Scrolls 6 still five years away at least, fans have had to find their own ways, like this, to keep the ageing Skyrim entertaining. Another player recently accrued a 267,000 gold bounty murdering 5,000 NPCs in a quest to ***** "everything that was killable", for example, while one fan recreated the game in Age of Empires 2. Looking to take immersion to the max, another player added two haptic feedback suits to their already $15,000 virtual reality setup to simulate actual pain when they're hurt in-game. And a speedrunner has now reached Level 80 and ******* the infamous Ebony Warrior in under 12 minutes. Waves of sentimental fans recently booted up their old Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s to "retire" their original characters too, showing how much Skyrim has remained in player consciousness over its 12 years of being available. In our 9/10 review of the beloved role playing game, IGN said: "Skyrim is a rare kind of intensely personal, deeply rewarding experience, and one of the best role-playing games yet produced." Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article

  23. Have you been left a bit bummed out that, after having your appetite for the series renewed by Amazon's Fallout TV show, the most recent Fallout games on offer are Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, both of which are getting fairly long in the tooth, even if they are still getting fresh updates? Well, here's what could be a bit of good news - Todd Howard says Bethesda's looking into upping its output, if it can do so in a manner it's a fan of. Yup, while we have had Fallout 4's rather, er, troubled next-gen update to dig into, and Appalachia to rediscover, the show's highlighted the need for more regular entries. Especially given that The Elder Scrolls 6 is next up on the docket and still seems years away at this point. Speaking to Kinda Funny Games for an interview that also saw him confirm when Starfield's first expansion will be dropping, Todd Howard also touched on where the studio's at in terms of making new things. 25. The game of the moment? The medieval city builder, Manor Lords, of course. The game burst into early access over the weekend and has so far sold over one million copies on Steam. Moreover, it reached a high point for strategy games at over 170,000 players playing at once. With figures like that, for a game in early access, I've come to expect reports of performance issues. Yet there have been surprisingly few. Of those, the developer says, most ending up in a system ****** are the result of outdated drivers... Read more.View the full article
