Nvidia has just released an update to its Nvidia ChatRTX AI assistant app, bringing support for more large language models and voice recognition in multiple languages. That's all somewhat exciting stuff, but the reason I might even consider trying out the app is that it does all its processing locally on your GPU, rather than sharing your data with a cloud server. Nvidia ChatRTX isn't the first app to do this, but its support for Nvidia GPUs inherently taps into their widespread use in many of the best graphics cards available right now. Intercept Games is among the many casualties of Take-Two Interactive's layoffs, as its parent company is laying off 70 people from the developer behind the Kerbal Space Program 2. As reported by [Hidden Content], a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice was filed in Washington state this past Monday, revealing that Take-Two Interactive was laying off 70 workers based in Seattle as part of a closure. Though the WARN notice lists Take-Two specifically, the developer impacted in question appears to be Intercept Games, a studio based in Seattle. Intercept Games did not immediately respond to IGN's request for comment, though the studio's website did have three job postings based in Seattle. In a statement sent to IGN, a Take-Two spokesperson did not explicitly confirm Intercept Games' closure, reiterating that it was not "providing additional details" on its plans to reduce staff across all its studios. However, the company revealed that the publisher, Private Division, will provide post-launch support for Kerbal Space Program 2, as the developer is seemingly shuttered. On April 16th, Take-Two announced a cost reduction program to identify efficiencies across its business and to enhance the Company’s margin profile, while still investing for growth. As part of these efforts, the Company is rationalizing its pipeline and eliminating several projects in development and streamlining its organizational structure, which will eliminate headcount and reduce future hiring needs. The Company is not providing additional details on this program. On April 18th Private Division successfully launched Moon Studio’s No Rest for the Wicked. The label continues to make updates to Kerbal Space Program 2 and plans to release Wētā Workshop Game Studio’s Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game in the second half of 2024. Take-Two Interactive announced last month that it was laying off around 5 percent, or 579 workers, while canceling several projects. The announcement came months prior when CEO Strauss Zelnick claimed the company had "no plans" to lay off anyone but did reveal that it was undertaking a cost reduction plan. Kerbal Space Program 2 was released over a year ago in early access. A sequel to 2015's Kerbal Space Program, the sequel has been met with mixed reception from critics and players, with some at release criticizing poor performance and bugs as its most significant drawbacks. The company says that “in the coming months,” you’ll be able to generate a link either on your PS5 or in the PlayStation App that you can share with others so they can join your multiplayer session. On the PS5, that means popping up a QR code from the game lobby that players will need to scan using a smartphone, while the PlayStation App just creates a link users can copy or share through their phone’s share sheet. Hasbro has already invested over $1 billion in its internal studios as part of an ambitious long-term strategy, according to Wizards of the Coast head of game studios and publishing Dan Ayoub. "Video games are an integral part of Hasbro's strategy going into the next 100 years and we have to make sure that everything that comes out is top quality, is authentic, and is something we can build upon,” explained Ayoub in an interview with [Hidden Content] at the Game Developer’s Conference in March. “Because we're talking about a couple studios and a couple games right now, but we have much larger ambitions for that." According to the industry veteran, Hasbro's $1 billion investment in its four existing AAA studios is part of a “very, very deliberate plan”, which would incorporate facets of the company beyond game development. It's not just Dungeons & Dragons Hasbro's current AAA stable includes the North Carolina-based studio Atomic Arcade, which is developing a G.I. Joe Snake Eyes game, and Invoke Studios, which is working on another title anchored in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Skeleton Key, and Texas-based studio Archetype Entertainment round out the quartet, the latter of which is developing a brand new IP starring Matthew McConaughey called Exodus, which draws inspiration from both Mass Effect, and Knights of the Old Republic. One of the great things we took from the success of Baldur's Gate 3 is that people really, really like a great, well-********* D&D game “What we're trying to do there is have the tail wag the dog a little bit and have things going the other direction for the company, which would be something new, where we can create a new IP through video games and then take advantage of the size and scale of Hasbro to do other things with it as well,” said Ayoub. He also made a point of highlighting Hasbro’s emphasis on quality and authenticity when it comes to its game development approach, while lauding the example set by Larian Studios’ hit RPG Baldur’s Gate 3. "One of the great things we took from the success of Baldur's Gate 3 is that people really, really like a great, well-********* D&D game, so we've got something like that,” said Ayoub. “And with Snake Eyes, while it's not a new IP, it's hopefully going to be a shot in the arm to the G.I. Joe franchise and we can do some new things and express it in different ways in video games than we have traditionally." Back in March Larian founder Swen Vincke made the shock announcement that the developer had no plans to release expansions or DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, and that it was instead moving on from the D & D setting to explore something new. With Larian out of the picture, Hasbro is patiently searching for new partners with whom to shape the future of the franchise. In the recent G.I.Biz interview, Ayoub highlighted Hasbro's deep well of IPs, which "goes much, much larger than anything we're talking about right now", and ensured that games developed by internal studios wouldn’t be rushed, and that “everything is going to stay in the oven as long as it needs to”. In December last year Hasbro announced a mass layoff that affected over 1,000 staff, accounting for around 20 percent of its total workforce, while citing the need to “modernize” the company, and make it “leaner” in order to position it for future growth. The redundancies came as Hasbro sought to save $300 million annually up to the year 2025, as it pivots to focus on “fewer, ******* brands”.
