  1. Vanguard has finally arrived in League of Legends, and nearly immediately the online community has been awash with players claiming their computers have been “bricked” by the kernel-level program and its activity. The claims, which were mainly shared on X (formerly Twitter) but also popped uphttps://www.facebook.com/leagueoflegends/?brand_redir=107740372034836across Reddit and Facebook, range from Vanguard preventing startup programs from ******* correctly to other programs crashing when the anti-cheat software loads, and some have even suggested Riot’s kernel program has been “tampering with unrelated files.” Others simply dubbed it “malware” and declared they would be quitting League until the program stopped breaking PCs. 2. Pick up a Star War for minimal monies—that's the motto of the day, friends. Why? Because apparently we can't just corral all of the deals specifically onto May the 4th anymore. I'm not complaining, of course, you can feed me cheap games wrapped in bad wordplay 365 days of the year. Especially if it has sweet lightsaber action in it! In retro news, I've made a ******* big cake with a 22 on it for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. My core launch memory of playing this seminal RPG was one of awe and questions. Like, by the Nine, does this horizon stretch out beyond Seyda Neen forever?! And what madness is this level of freedom where I can grind into being a magic bow packing, flying wizard demigod? Oh, how I miss pathfinding purely via directions gleaned from conversations (zero quest/compass markers). They just don't make 'em like this anymore. 5. Riot Games dropped Teamfight Tactics 14.9 B-patch details during the evening of May 1, highlighting a bug fix to the Ghostly trait. Less than 24 hours after the launch of TFT Set 11 Patch 14.9, a B-patch is getting shipped on May 2 during the late evening hours. Patch 14.9 wasn’t a standard update, containing 20 new and powerful Artifacts and five Support items. Encounters were adjusted and traits like Heavenly were slightly revoked. It’s too early to identify troublemakers within the 14.9 metagame at the time of writing. 6. HiRez is taking the chance to really play with the Smite item system as the sequel ships, with nearly every aspect of the core mechanic changing—and that includes stats, with buffs and nerfs galore in the alpha. One of the biggest changes coming in Smite 2 is that items are now using a component-based system; gone are the days of Smite when these battle upgrades were built around a tree-based layout, according to HiRez’s mile-long blog on the topic. Some items will also be marked “Unique”—these can only be bought once. View the full article

  10. For a seemingly dour art game excoriating religion, Indika is pretty funny. With its publishing duties handled by 11 bit studios, the small team at the now-Kazakhstan-based studio Odd Meter have devised a discomfiting surrealist dirge of an adventure game, one which matches exquisite moments and inventive visuals with jagged third-person exploration controls. Centered on a nun within the Russian Orthodox ******* of the late 19th century, Indika presents a bleak tale stuffed with ****** humor. Amid the developing political reality surrounding Russia in the present day, the quest feels poignant, even while much of its messaging relies on subjective interpretation. View the full article

  19. The Asus ROG Ally. | Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge What is Asus hiding? Two weeks ago, I told you how Asus has officially extended its warranty on the ROG Ally gaming handheld’s SD card reader to two full years in the ******* States, presumably to give you more time to get it fixed. But Asus refuses to confirm to The Verge that it’s actually identified a fix for the issue. If you ship your Ally back to Asus, there’s no guarantee the problem won’t reappear. Early on, some ROG Ally buyers discovered the SD card readers had a tendency to fail and possibly damage your SD cards in the process. One law firm, CSK&D, even threatened to pursue a class-action lawsuit on behalf of owners, though I haven’t yet found record of an actual suit being filed, and its class-action website has since been... 25. Amazon is offering Amazon Prime members an older generation Anker PowerCore 737 25,600mAh USB Power Bank, which also includes a 65W USB *** wall charger for only $79.99 shipped. That's a nearly 40% price drop from its original $130 MSRP. This is close to the highest capacity power bank you're allowed to bring on airplane carry-on, and it also boasts 60W of USB power delivery to charge your Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, or ASUS ROG Ally gaming handheld. Anker PowerCore 737 25,600mAh Power Bank for $79.99 Includes a 65W USB *** wall charger The Anker PowerCore 737 can be used like any other power bank; it does a fine job of charging any of your standard mobile electronics. It has two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port. This is one of the largest capacity power banks that can be brought onto an airplane as carry-on. It can charge a Nintendo Switch OLED over 5 times, iPhone 15 Pro Max over 5 times, Steam Deck over 4 times, and an ASUS ROG Ally over 9 times. The power bank is physically larger than smaller capacity ones and weighs in at 1.3 pounds. The USB Type-C port supports up to 60W Power Delivery. That's enough to charge the Steam Deck (35W) and Nintendo Switch (18W) at their maximum charging speed. It's also very close to the maximum charging speed of the ASUS ROG Ally, which caps at 65W. The two USB Type-A ports support up to 18W of total charging, which is enough to fast charge a Nintendo Switch. What's unique about this deal compared to some other similar deals we've posted is that this one also comes with a USB Type-C wall charger that supports 65W of Power Delivery. There's no need to buy another wall charger or scavenge one from another power bank you might have sitting around. The Anker 737 is our pick for best Steam Deck / ASUS ROG Ally charger We picked the newer Anker 737 as our favorite portable charger for the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally portable gaming handhelds. Both the ROG Ally and Steam Deck suffer from a short battery life when gaming on the go. For instance, when playing most games at 60 FPS, you're likely looking at four hours of battery life, at most. We even found games like **** of War or Spider-Man would tap out in under 2 hours on the Steam Deck. At the end of the day, you'll never get the full potential out of your Steam Deck or ROG Ally if you're not equipped with a decent portable charger.
