The Roots update in PEAK appears to be of the worst kind if you're an arachnophobe, since we now have to escape from spiders. While you can avoid the eight-legged freaks during your ascent, there's no such luxury if you wish to complete the Web Security badge as part of the new update. Let's look at how to escape the spider in the new update and obtain the badge by doing so. How to complete the Web Security badge in PEAK While it's not a smart thing to deliberately get trapped in a spider's web, you might have to do so to get the Web Security badge. First, get to the Roots biome since the spider can only be found there. It's naturally possible that you could get entrapped in a spider web. Spiders typically stay high on the ******* mushrooms. They will swoop down when you stand under them directly; I would advise always looking above when you're traveling in Roots. If you want to emphasize completing the badge, go stand under a mushroom with a spider on it. Screenshot by Destructoid The spider will attack and try to entangle you in its web. Once the web starts building around you, start tapping the space bar as rapidly as you can. Do it fast enough, and you'll be able to come out of the web successfully and complete the Web Security badge. Fail to do so, and you'll get trapped and die. Getting trapped (even temporarily) in the web can inflict poison on your stamina bar. The longer you stay trapped, the greater will be the poison damage. When you're trying to escape the web, be careful about your surroundings. You can accidentally fall and take more damage, which can also leave you dead. If you're playing in a party, keep a few healing items spread out among all of you. That will allow your friends to either heal you or revive you if you die. To make matters more interesting, you can also use the Book of Bones on a dead friend and revive them as a skeleton, completing the Applied Esoterica badge in the process. Upgrading your workshop is one of the most important goals for any raider in ARC Raiders, and getting to some of those top levels is going to take a lot of effort. One item that is necessary for these industrial expansions is the Rusted Gear, and exceedingly rare component that can only be found out in the world. But some locations tend to have better odds of dropping it, so here's where you should go to get yourself a few of these items. How to find Rusted Gear in ARC Raiders The Scrap Yard is a good early spot to check for Rusted Gears if you don't want to risk it on The Blue Gate. Screenshot by Destructoid Rusted Gear is a random drop that can be found in just about any container in the game. However, Industrial zones tend to have greater odds of spawning it, as do specific types of containers such as cars, whose hoods have a small but non-zero chance to give one of this item. The best overall locations for finding Rusted Gears would be the Warehouse Complex in Blue Gate, specifically its underground sections that have tons of cars to search through. Hoods seem to have the best odds, but any searchable container is worth checking, given that the item is so rare that you could very well look through hundreds of cars without finding it. Additionally, the Scrap Yard in Dam Battlegrounds has tons of car wreckages and other Industrial stashes that, like the Complex, could spawn Rusted Gears. Again, the odds are super small, so check every single container that you come across to maximize your odds. You should also always bring a proper Augment that has Safe Pockets to ensure you don't die and lose an item that took you several runs to find. ARCs are not just your enemies: they are a valuable source of high-tier items that are necessary to keep this little underground project of ours going. We humans have a symbiotic relationship with these machines, and exterminating them completely wouldn't be advisable. One items that the people of Speranza need are the Snitch Scanners, required for numerous crucial upgrades, much like other ARC parts like Hornet Drivers, for example. If you were on the lookout for some of these, here's what you should do. Where to get Snitch Scanner in ARC Raiders You can summon ARCs with the Scanner to give your enemies extra things to worry about. Screenshot by Destructoid Snitch Scanners are, as the name implies, dropped by Snitches, the circular ARC that constantly scans for new threats and then calls in three more ARCs from orbit to help it out if it turns hostile. It's always flying around the map looking for trouble, though I've noticed many more of them on Buried City than on any other map. To get the Scanners, simply attack the Snitch and take it down, then loot its chassis. You might also discover husks and remains around the maps that should drop Scanners as well. The best way to kill a Snitch is to bring it down before it calls in any reinforcements, and to do that shoot at its "wings." It has three separate segments, each having some sort of "lightbulb" attached, and destroying two will send the thing flying to its doom super quickly. If you want to farm some extra ARC materials, though, let it call in the reinforcements and take them all down together. The supports are usually two Wasps and a Hornet, which isn't the strongest bunch. The post How to find Snitch Scanner in ARC Raiders appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article

Square Enix is undergoing mass layoffs today, potentially impacting over 100 individuals, alongside a broader effort to consolidate its publishing organization and focus its development work in Japan. Via public posts from former employees as well as confirmation from internal sources, IGN has learned that employees in the *** and US are being informed of the layoffs today, with an unknown number of US employees being dismissed by the end of the week, and a possible 137 jobs at risk in the ***. Under *** law, Square Enix must undergo redundancy consultations to see if any jobs can potentially be saved, so the final number in the *** could be smaller. It is not yet clear which teams were impacted by this, or to what extent. Internally, a slide presentation now publicly available was also shared with employees earlier today, offered a progress report on Square Enix's ongoing "reorganization of overseas organizations", of which this restructuring seems to be a part. Per Square Enix, the strategy has already involved "clos[ing] overseas development studios and shift[ing] toward consolidating development functions in Japan." As a part of this, Square Enix already sold Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, Square Enix Montreal, and a number of associated IPs to Embracer Group. It also already laid off workers across its Western operations in 2024. That leaves Square Enix with the Life Is Strange, Outriders, and Just Cause franchises currently managed by its Western studios, as well as the publishing of Powerwash Simulator. In that same presentation, Square Enix also shared that it expects 70% of its QA work to be handled by generative AI by the end of 2027. The company has stated in the past that it intends to be "aggressive in applying AI" across both development and publishing. IGN has reached out to Square Enix for comment. When living underground, it's important to keep some eyes on and in the sky. In ARC Raiders, one of the main storyline's quests involves placing something called LiDAR Scanners across a variety of locations so that those in Speranza can keep track of what's going on Topside. That's where you come in. Here are all of the locations where you need to install LiDAR Scanners in ARC Raiders' "Eyes in the Sky" quest. Table of contentsARC Raiders - Eyes in the Sky quest locationsOn Spaceport, install a LiDAR Scanner at the Communications TowerOn Buried City, install a LiDAR Scanner on top of the Galleria signOn Dam Battlegrounds, install a LiDAR Scanner at the top of the Control TowerARC Raiders - Eyes in the Sky quest locations First things first, make sure you have a few Ziplines in your Quick Use inventory. You're going to need them for a couple of these. There's three different areas you need to visit for this quest: Control Tower on Dam Battlegrounds, Galleria on Buried City, and Communications Tower on Spaceport. The quest description makes it seem like you need a LiDAR Scanner in your inventory, but you don't need anything extra besides the Ziplines you need to use to get to high out of reach areas. Let's knock these out one by one. On Spaceport, install a LiDAR Scanner at the Communications Tower Screenshot by Destructoid The Comms Tower is off to the far eastern area in Spaceport, and it's tough to miss. It's a giant, skinny red tower that you can see from a distance. You don't need your Zipline for this one, either. Just climb the ladder and interact to install the LiDAR Scanner when you reach the top. Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid On Buried City, install a LiDAR Scanner on top of the Galleria sign Screenshot by Destructoid Bring a Zipline for this one. This sign you're looking for is a giant tower with a G at the top (for Galleria), but you can easily get up there with a well-placed Zipline from down below. Once at the top, place the LiDAR Scanner. Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid On Dam Battlegrounds, install a LiDAR Scanner at the top of the Control Tower Screenshot by Destructoid You can get to the top of the Control Tower by using a Zipline from underneath, or by entering the building and using the elevator shaft zipline that's built in to the map. Be wary of lots of ARCs and Raiders in this area, but once you're up top, place the Scanner to finish this quest.
