  1. The Helldivers 2 community has been through a lot lately, with everything from ******* Major Orders to Sony’s aborted attempt to force PC players to link their accounts to PSN to contend with. Now, the community’s attention has shifted onto a player who has unwittingly become the focus of an altogether more wholesome story. The story starts with a seemingly innocuous player interaction that went viral. A Helldiver called Dremskiy joined a group only to face being kicked from it. “Sorry… I have to kick you,” Dremskiy was told by another Helldiver who said they were playing with friends only. “im frend,” was Dremskiy’s heartbreaking reply. “Don’t make this more difficult…” the player said. The interraction that can make a grown man cry [Hidden Content] — Helldivers 2 Media (@Helldiversmedia) May 13, 2024 Like a Helldiver ragdoll butting heads with a Charger, that interaction flew off, enjoying millions of views across social media, Discord, and forums before inevitably becoming a meme. “im frend”, complete with misspelling, is now part of Helldivers lore. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead and Sony then had their say, reinforcing and promoting the meme. “For prosperity. For liberty. For democracy. For frend,” Arrowhead tweeted. “im frend ” the PlayStation *** X/Twitter account replied, while still failing to address the fact Helldivers 2 ******** delisted in over 100 countries because of its PSN account policy. im frend — PlayStation *** (@PlayStationUK) May 15, 2024 Now, Helldivers players are reporting brief interactions with Dremskiy, who seems bemused by all the attention. Apparently they’re just happy everyone’s happy, which is lovely. The legend.. the myth.. our frend ReasonableBarbe #Helldivers2 [Hidden Content] — Helldivers 2 Media (@Helldiversmedia) May 15, 2024 And Dremskiy should now have plenty of frends to play Helldivers 2 with — the community reports their friends list is now full following all the attention. Dremskiy is now streaming Helldivers 2 on Twitch. “Hello frend,” people in chat are saying as they log in to watch. While streaming, Dremskiy called the tweets from the official Helldivers account "crazy." Update: Dremskiy has Frends [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Helldivers 2 Media (@Helldiversmedia) May 15, 2024 Helldivers 2 is PlayStation’s fastest-selling video game of all time, with 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks. It’s an astonishing result for Sony and Arrowhead, but Helldivers 2 has certainly had its ups and downs since the explosive launch across PC and PlayStation 5 in February. Perhaps Dremskiy’s story marks a turning point. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. You can reach Wesley at [email protected] or confidentially at *****@*****.tld. 2. In perhaps the most anticipated match of the 2024 League of Legends season so far, Gen.G clashed with Bilibili Gaming in a thrilling Mid-Season Invitational semifinal. Both teams entered the tournament as favorites to claim the title, representing their respective regions as first seeds, and today they clashed for the first time. The stakes were high as the winner would secure a spot in the grand final, while the ****** would have to wait for a chance at redemption and revenge. After displaying the highest level of pro plays, it was Gen.G who devoured their opponents and are now positioned as the event’s final boss. View the full article
  3. Sony and LEGO are reportedly collaborating on a new PlayStation video game called LEGO Horizon Adventures. Insider Gaming reports the unannounced video game is “essentially Horizon Forbidden West but Lego”, with “realistic graphics.” IGN has asked Sony for comment. X/Twitter user @Kurakasis had previously flagged the collaboration, and Insider Gaming suggests this was the result of a recently discovered trademark filing. That’s pretty much all we have right now. We don’t know which studio is behind the game, or the platforms it will launch on. But Sony is rumored to be set to hold a PlayStation showcase this month. Perhaps we’ll learn more there. While a LEGO Horizon video game may sound like an odd choice, the two brands have collaborated before on LEGO sets based on Guerrilla’s post-apocalyptic franchise. Sony has a quiet year ahead for first-party PlayStation games, and has ruled out sequels in its major franchises such as Spider-Man and **** of War until at least April 2025. But it still has a number of key games set to release over the next 12 months, including PS5 and PC FPS Concord and, potentially, LEGO Horizon Adventures. In February, Sony announced a significant round of layoffs affecting around 900 staff, or about 8% of its global PlayStation workforce. The layoffs affect a number of PlayStation studios, including Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Firesprite, and, most significantly, PlayStation's London studio. Alongside the layoffs, a number of in-development games were canceled. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. 4. Well, the next Steam Next Fest will be upon us soon, set to begin on June 10. But much like holiday seasons, it always feels like there are people who get started on it earlier and earlier each time. Case in point, Jyamma Games and their upcoming soulslike title, Enotria: The Last Song. Today, the Milan-based developers announced that ahead of Steam Next Fest, a demo of the game will be available for Steam and PlayStation 5 starting on May 22. And it looks like this demo won't just be a mere taste of what the game has to offer, but rather a massive ***** of it, as it will apparently last for a hefty eight hours, which should get people hyped up for the game's new release date that was also announced. 10. Fans of odd games with multiple endings and themes of identity and oppression, rejoice! Or, maybe, not rejoice. Time will tell. In the latest issue of ********* gaming magazine Famitsu, Yosuke Saito, the series producer for Nier, teased that he might be working on something new with Yoko Taro and Keiichi Okabe, the director and composer for the Nier series, respectively. Via Gematsu and PCGamer, Saito said, “I’ve been talking about wanting to do something with Yoko and Okabe for some time now. I’ll have something a bit more put-together to say in the not-too-distant future, so please stay tuned. It might be NieR, it might not be NieR. (Laughs.) That’s about all I can say for now.” Thanks for the clarity, Saito. Read more View the full article

  12. Riot Games introduced ranked splits to League of Legends in 2023 and increased the number of these to three with the start of season 14. However, some players believe this increased number of splits is to make them “grind more.” A discussion was sparked by one League player on Reddit on May 15, who asked about the logic behind three ranked splits in a single year. They underlined how frustrated they were, since after “working their **** off” to reach Diamond, the rank got reset, and they dropped to Emerald after a few unlucky placement games. Others in the comments quickly replied—it’s to make you play more League. View the full article

Blending the roguelike deckbuilder stylings so beloved in games like Slay the Spire, Cobalt Core, and most recently Balatro with four-person dungeon crawling reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon, Across the Obelisk is a very satisfying challenger in the space - and one of the few to offer co-op with up to four players collaborating online. 14. When is the Lollipop Chainsaw Repop release date? A console cult classic despite mixed critic reviews, Lollipop Chainsaw was set for a comeback thanks to a full remake announced by Dragami Games in 2022. Since, the remake has been scaled back to a simple remaster, but is still set for release on console and, for the first time, PC. 16. While the current library of PS Plus games is stacked, nothing beats revisiting classics back from the PS2 glory days. Compared to the slate of PS5 games on the service, the Classics Catalog is kind of lacking, but that could change as Sony appears to be improving its PS2 emulation capabilities. 17. Despite Embracer's repeated warnings, the world was shocked when last week a new Lord of the Rings movie was confirmed. Moreover, it was revealed that the new big-screen project is titled The Hunt for Gollum, and everyone started questioning who asked for this. Well, now we know that the pitch came from the filmmakers behind the six previous New Line-produced movies, actually. Deadline's in-depth article, which features quotes straight from Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis, and writer Philippa Boyens will put some minds at ease, yet it seems the Middle-earth veterans are now tied to a new wave of The Lord of the Rings projects they hadn't thought about before. Word on the street last week was that Embracer and Warner Bros. Discovery, in their seemingly endless search for bankable IPs to mine, had toyed with the idea of doing safe spinoffs and prequels that followed a younger Aragorn or Gandalf, among other famous names. "Gollum’s life span takes place in such an interesting ******* of Middle-earth. When the question was first asked, this was the first story we thought of. Because I can tell you, and people might not believe this, but we had zero expectations of going back to this. It wasn’t something we were looking to do, particularly," Boyens explained. 23. Hello. Helldivers 2's community ******* its last Major Order. Sorry I had to break that to you. Anyway, now Arrowhead says that all of the fighting up until this point - an entire war's worth, was just the prelude to "The Second Galactic War" which has just kicked off. While they did manage to ***** a lot of bugs - enough to make Helldivers 2's very impressive sales numbers look tiny in comparison, players have been enduring a bit of ******* ****** as of late, though things should at least get a bit less frustrating via a spawn rate revamp that's coming soon. For now thoough, get your correctly ********* Tenderizer ready, the second war has begun. In a war update posted to Helldivers 2's Discord server, community manager Baskinator got the honour of delaring this new era's commencement, in typical Helldivers style - and by that I mean dripping with ironic humour. "After five days of intense decommissioning of Automatons into scrap metal for use in advanced anti-tank mines, the Helldivers came 78% towards the stated goal of 2 billion ***** bots," they wrote, adding: "This means that the new stratagem will continue to elude the Helldiver arsenal for now..." 25. Starfield players who just can't part with their horde of collected treasures are in luck because the game's most recent update just introduced a way to expand ships' cargo capacities and it's much easier than expected. One of the more common complaints about Bethesda's RPGs is the fact that characters have such a limited carrying weight in relation to the amount of interesting items they can pick up throughout their adventures. While most of this loot can stored in a house or on a companion, Starfield goes one step further by allowing explorers to bring their stash with them. View the full article
