Although the official release of Wuthering Waves has been met with plenty of acclaim, there have been many complaints about how long it takes for players to rip through cutscenes. But the developers are bringing some good news on that front in an upcoming update. According to official Wuthering Waves socials, the developers are planning to make every type of story content skippable, which should help speed up the process from cutscene to gameplay. This has been a huge contention point for players who are trying to speed run to specific levels and modes since the main story quest cutscenes can’t be skipped. View the full article
The Sims 4 is fast approaching its 10th birthday this September, a fact that genuinely instilled me with the crushing sense of time marching relentlessly on when I checked its release date a moment ago. That near-decade has brought a whole heap of additions, expansions, packs and updates to the enduring life sim game, to the degree that the underlying tech serving as the foundation for dozens of later mechanical and visual elements can sometimes look a bit wobbly these days. Thanks to some good old-fashioned triangulation, Genshin Impact players may have pinpointed the exact location of Natlan relative to the other regions of Teyvat. Though Version 4.7 is packed with content, the indisputable highlight of the recent Genshin Impact livestream ended up being the first official look into Natlan and its mounts. Compared to other regions of Teyvat, not much is known about Natlan, and the developers kept it a closely-guarded secret for years. Whereas NPCs had frequently teased Fontaine and Sumeru, the first true description of Natlan and its state of affairs came from Neuvillette at the end of Fontaine's Archon Quests. In a year already stacking up plates of delicious indie game dishes so fast they’re toppling over and crashing onto the floor, spilling splattered food over the carpet to be hoovered up by waiting dogs/cats/raccoons/mice, Animal Well is one of the most generous helpings yet. The captivating, combat-free Metroidvania is rich with a delectable buffet of challenges, puzzles and secrets to find even once you’ve seen the credits roll. Still, players have chewed their way through its more-ish platforming and puzzle-solving much faster than its solo developer intended, it turns out. Luckily for us all, creator Billy Basso is already looking ahead to a new game set in the moody zoo-niverse - even if that’s not a complete sequel. Read more View the full article
Tacoma."> Enlarge / But... but I was just about to check out Tacoma. (credit: Getty Images) With Valve's Steam gaming platform approaching the US drinking age this year, more and more aging PC gamers may be considering what will happen to their vast digital game libraries after they ****. Unfortunately, legally, your collection of hundreds of backlogged games will likely pass into the ether along with you someday. The issue of digital game inheritability gained renewed attention this week as a ResetEra poster quoted a Steam support response asking about transferring Steam account ownership via a last will and testament. "Unfortunately, Steam accounts and games are non-transferable" the response reads. "Steam Support can't provide someone else with access to the account or merge its contents with another account. I regret to inform you that your Steam account cannot be transferred via a will." This isn't the first time someone has asked this basic estate planning question, of course. Last year, a Steam forum user quoted a similar response from Steam support as saying, "Your account is yours and yours alone. Now you can share it with family members, but you cannot give it away." The Warhammer 40,000 universe has featured in a wide variety of video games, and one that's flown under too many radars is temporarily available for free on Steam. Although its origins lie in miniature wargaming, Warhammer 40K has become a vast multimedia empire over the years. Strong iconography, memorable storytelling, and a harsh, vividly realized world have made it easy to translate into many different forms, and an approach to video games that focuses on licensing out to many different studios has yielded some excellent results, including the recent Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader CRPG. If you've somehow yet to play GTA 5 (first of all, this is a gaming site, how did you get here?) here's some sad news. It's set to depart PlayStation Plus' Extra tier next month, having only joined the serive back in December 2023. Yup, your plan to desperately ***** through the series for the first time and become a GTA expert before GTA 6 drops in fall 2025 without paying retail price for at least one entry in it is in tatters. My condolences. You'll just have to watch last year's first GTA 6 trailer over and over again until the time comes. The journeying of Michael, Franklin and Trevor's adventure into the PS Plus sunset has been confirmed thanks to the PlayStation Store's 'last chance to play' page (thanks, PushSquare). 2XKO has made a surprise appearance at Combo Breaker 2024, allowing attendees to try out the latest demo build while wondering the tournament floor. If nothing else, this should make for an entertaining distraction from those who go 0-2 in bracket. The build in question is the english version of the demo we saw shown off at Evo Japan 2024 - featuring the same playable cast we saw at Evo 2023 with the addition of Illaoi, as well as various gameplay adjustments. There are four custom cabinents in total, allowing for a maximum of eight players to play at once. There will likely be a line. Aside from entertainment for the attendees, this will also provide ample opportunity for players who weren't able to make it out to Japan earlier this year to try out the game for themselves. Many of the changes and additions have already been explored by various influencers and pro players, but there's nothing quite like personally getting your hands on the game to see how things feel. Expect an influx of new impressions online from those trying it out for the first time. Read more View the full article

Enlarge / VideoCardz' leaked image of a ROG Ally X, seemingly having gone through the JPG blender a couple times. (credit: VideoCardz) Asus' ROG Ally was the first major-brand attempt to compete with Valve's Steam Deck. It was beefy and interesting, but it had three major flaws: It ran Windows on a little touchscreen, had unremarkable ergonomics, and its battery life was painful. The Asus ROG (Republic of Gamers) Ally X, which has been announced and is due out June 2, seems to have had its specs leaked, and they indicate a fix for at least the battery life. Gaming site VideoCardz, starting its ***** reveal with "No more rumors," cites the ROG Ally X as having the same Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU as the prior ROG Ally, as well as the same 7-inch 1080p VRR screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. VideoCardz' leaked image, seemingly from Asus marketing materials, with the ROG Ally X's specifications. (credit: VideoCardz) The battery and memory have changed substantially, though. An 80-watt-hour battery, up from 40, somehow adds just 70 grams of weight and about 5 mm of thickness to the sequel device. By increasing the RAM from 16GB to 24GB and making it LPDDR5, the ROG Ally X may be able to lend more of it to the GPU, upping performance somewhat without demanding a new chip or architecture. There is also a second USB-C port, with USB4 speeds, that should help quite a bit with docking, charging while playing with accessories, and, I would guess, Linux hackery.
