You look at Avowed, which has this incredibly vibrant art and production design, a big open world, myriad quests and branching narratives, and, of course, all the development pedigree of Obsidian, and naturally, you'd assume it's an expensive game to build. From The Outer Worlds to Pillars of Eternity, Fallout New Vegas and beyond, Obsidian has always committed its efforts towards facilitating player agency and making worlds replete with possibility. But speaking to PCGamesN at this year's Gamescom, the team reveals that, when it comes to Avowed, one of the toughest, priciest aspects of development comes from something that most players take for granted. The Call of Duty Zombies story is seemingly getting more convoluted and wild in ****** Ops 6’s new map, Liberty Falls, which got a first-look cinematic teaser this afternoon. Admittedly, I’m not the most well-versed in CoD Zombies lore, but the stage is set for Liberty Falls to take place on Feb. 18, 1991, featuring none other than Edward Richtofen in what looks like an idyllic West Virginia town that hides a very dark secret. Metroidvanias, while enjoyable, can sometimes feel a little linear. You ****** often adorable bosses around the head, upgrade your gear, master your combat, then do it all again. All of that's by no means a bad thing - I want Hollow Knight: Silksong as much as the rest of you - but there's certainly scope for adding some cool new mechanics into that tried and tested formula. That's exactly what Altered Alma does, and it's a twist that I'm sort of obsessed with. Read the rest of the story... View the full article

Drayden and Nadia team up on an arduous adventure to rescue Elio from the Fade with a little help from some familiar friendly faces. Dragon Age: The Veilguard itself launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S this Halloween: October 31, 2024. It's been a long road to The Veilguard's release in October. It was first announced way, way back in 2018, and later that year was given the title Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. In 2022, we learned that an alpha build of the game was playable from start to finish, and earlier this year we finally saw the first official trailer with a fall 2024 release window. At the time, it was revealed that the name of the game was being changed to Dragon Age: The Veilguard to place more emphasis on the party of protagonists, rather than returning Dragon Age character Solas, known as the Dreadwolf. We've since learned plenty of tidbits about what to expect. The Veilguard apparently has 140,000 lines of dialogue, will be Steam-native on the storefront, has customizable difficulty options, and will import choices made in previous games. We've also gotten a look at the game's voice cast, and we've learned that all possible companions will be pansexual. In September, we'll have an IGN First for Dragon Age: The Veilguard with tons more detail. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. Inzoi, The Sims competitor from PUBG developer Krafton, is expected to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S eventually. Krafton has captured the attention of The Sims fans with a free Inzoi character creator demo available to download on Steam until August 25 at 9pm Pacific, but many are wondering if, like The Sims, it will ever move beyond PC and come to console too. Fans will be relieved to hear a console release is likely, as a Frequently Asked Questions segment of Inzoi's Discord, operated by Krafton itself, states the game "is currently on PC (Steam) and is later expected to be on consoles like PS5 and Xbox." Krafton announced Inzoi in November 2023 and the release of the character creator indicates development is progressing smoothly, but a late 2024 release window is currently the only indication of a full launch. It also seems a console release won't happen alongside the PC launch, so those on PS5 and Xbox will likely be waiting even longer. Inzoi is "a life simulation game where players become gods within the game, allowing them to change everything as they wish and experience endless new stories in various forms of life." This was enough to capture the attention of disgruntled The Sims fans, with many claiming they'll switch to Inzoi for good once it's fully released. The incredibly detailed and realistic character creator has already been used to recreate some real-life figures and pop culture characters, including Taylor Swift, Harry Potter, Wario, Abraham Lincoln, and more. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article
The wait is finally over, with Valve adding The International 2024 Compendium in a (not so surprising) surprise Dota 2 update on Aug. 22, letting you complete challenges or purchase levels to unlock many rewards. With less than two weeks to The International 2024’s kickoff, Valve introduced the highly anticipated hero Ringmaster and the Compendium in Dota 2. The 2024 Compendium is similar to the one that dropped last year, where Valve moved away from the battle pass approach in favor of a Compendium to focus more on gameplay updates rather than skins. Crafting Emblems in Teamfight Tactics is about to get wonky with Riot Games teasing the Golden Frying Pan mechanic on Aug. 23, which is slated to drop onto the live servers through Patch 14.18. One of the most powerful mechanics within TFT is the use of a Spatula to craft trait Emblems, whether you’re seeking to play a ****-level vertical Set 12 comp like Eldritch or Portal. Emblems are also crafted to splash in powerful traits to end-game comps that are normally not possible. The launch of Set 12 featured fewer Spatula appearances, especially on Carousels. But crafting Emblems in TFT is about to change with the addition of the Golden Frying Pan, revealed by Riot on Aug. 23 through Twitter/X. View the full article

Ringmaster is finally in Dota 2 after nearly a year of wait. Naturally, he dropped out of nowhere, as Valve products and events often do, but players quickly caught on that this doesn’t look like the hero we saw in promos, and now even believe Valve scrapped its original design. Ringmaster has been a long-awaited addition to the rarely-changing and expanding Dota 2 roster, especially because his promotional material and trailers made him look like a genuine ******* for heroes. However, looking at the abilities we now have access to, Ringmaster isn’t that scary at all. The character appears to lack many of the skills we saw him perform in the trailers, causing players to think Valve probably redesigned and reworked his kit, which would explain the delays. In numerous Reddit threads including one from today, Dota 2 players went full *********** theory, attempting to compare the Ringmaster that was promised compared to the one we have. Borderlands 3[/i]'s exclusive launch there."> Enlarge / Artist's conception of ****** Pitchford surveying the Epic Games Store landscape years after Borderlands 3's exclusive launch there. (credit: Gearbox) [/url] It's been five years now since the PC version of Borderlands 3 launched as a high-profile timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store. At the time, Gearbox's ****** Pitchford memorably mused that Steam "may look like a dying store" in "five or ten years" thanks to increased competition from Epic and others. Fast-forward to this week's announcement of Borderlands 4, and despite Pitchford's old comments, the sequel will not follow its predecessor's example of EGS exclusivity. The new game plans to launch on Steam and EGS simultaneously sometime in 2025 (alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions). When one social media user noticed that change this week, Pitchford responded with another lengthy message explaining why his early hopes for the Epic Games Store's rise to dominance were "misplaced or overly optimistic." Everything I know about the French Revolution has hitherto come from two literary works: Hilary Mantel's excellent doorstopper A Place Of Greater Safety, and Kate Beaton's webcomics. I, for one, feel like I've been grossly ill-informed.
