My Hero Academia: You're Next is out next month in Japan, and those of you in the US will only have to wait a couple of months to check it out. It's a bit of a big year for My Hero Academia. Season 7 continues to bring the series towards its dramatic end, though it's still got a little while left to go, and creator Kohei Horikoshi even confirmed that the manga will finally be coming to an end this coming August. It's quite good timing too, as there's also a new film on the way, My Hero Academia: You're Next, which is set to arrive in ********* theatres August 2. News of a US release has been a bit quiet though, as is typical of most anime movies, but over the weekend during its panel at Anime Expo, Toho Animation confirmed that the upcoming film will be coming to the US just a couple of months after its ********* release on October 11, later this year. Traditionally a lot of film adaptations of popular manga aren't canon to the main story, and while there's been a growing trend to release films as stop gaps between seasons like with ****** Slayer: Mugen Train and the upcoming Chainsaw Man movie, You're Next won't be required viewing for whenever season 8 eventually rolls around. It is set roughly around where the anime is currently, at a time where villains are running wild, where a giant fortress turns up that starts kidnapping people. Things are complicated further by the presence of an evil All Might imitator, but what his whole deal is is yet to be revealed. Read more View the full article

The studio-******** fallout of Embracer's acquisition frenzy continues to fall like ash on the industry. The publishing giant has reportedly closed Piranha Bytes, the studio known for cult RPGs like Gothic, Risen, and Elex, according to a worker who spoke to Polish games site CD-Action. The studio's existence had been under threat since early this year, after being targeted in Embracer's purgatorial studio massacre. At that time the ******* studio were hopeful to avoid being closed down, insisting "don't write us off yet!" Unfortunately, it looks like those who worked at the studio have since been ***** off. The First Descendant, a free-to-play co-op focused looter shooter from Korean games company Nexon, is blowing up across PC and console with big player numbers on Steam specifically. But as players debate the rights and wrongs of its ultra aggressive monetization, another controversy has hit the game. Forbes reported that The First Descendant “is using barely-changed” Destiny 2 icons, and pointed to the remarkable similarities between icons used by developer Bungie for its veteran looter shooter and those used by Nexon for its new looter shooter challenger. Certainly, the similarities are hard to ignore. One Bungie icon artist tweeted to say it “feels like a great day to mention that Bungie icon artists are a super-crew of talented folks with original ideas and sharp instincts.” But what’s actually happened here? ‘The First Descendant’ Is Using Barely-Changed ‘Destiny 2’ Icons via @forbes [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Paul Tassi (@PaulTassi) July 7, 2024 While Nexon is under pressure to explain itself (IGN has asked for comment but has yet to hear a response), fans have unearthed evidence to suggest the root of the problem can be found in an icon database that seems to misunderstand the concepts of personal and commercial use of assets. Iconduck bills itself as a “free and open-source” database of hundreds of thousands of icons, illustrations, emojis, logos, and flags, and includes a number of Destiny icons Nexon may have lifted for use in The First Descendant. As spotted by PC Gamer, Iconduck has a Destiny Icons set that includes 204 icons, all open sourced with a Creative Commons Zero v1.0 Universal license. “All icons can be used for personal and commercial purposes,” Iconduck claims. This icon set was designed by Tom Chapman, who made the Bray.tech websites among others for Destiny 2. In a tweet, Chapman said most of the icons in the set were “ripped from the font files created by Bungie and its designers.” “Most of the remainder are designed by Bungie and recreated by me or whoever contributed them to that repo,” Chapman added, before casting doubt on Iconduck itself: “I've come to hate open source… I don't want @iamiconduck to use my work like this.” It’s worth pointing out that Iconduck also makes available icons from the Pokémon franchise, including Pikachu and Poké ******, Marvel Avengers icons, famous Batman icons, and plenty more images you’d imagine Iconduck wouldn’t have the rights to make available for people to use for commercial purposes. There are many other icon databases that include similar sets and make similar claims of their use. Nexon may well have used icons from one of these websites, such as Iconduck, and tweaked them slightly for The First Descendant, but the company has yet to explain its process. If it did, Nexon would then face pressure to explain why it did. Again, IGN has asked for comment. The First Descendant rekindles memories of Palworld, Pocketpair’s controversial ‘Pokémon with guns’ survival and crafting game that has been accused of “ripping off” ‘Pokémon, but has also been compared gameplay wise to all sorts of titles in the survival and crafting genre. Generally speaking, The First Descendant is a mash-up of mechanics from various looter shooters already in the market. There’s more than a whiff of Destiny about The First Descendant’s design, systems, and mechanics, but then there’s also a lot of Warframe about it, too. I gaze with alarm and approval upon the recent phenomenon of "dark strategy" or "horror strategy" games, a devilish parade of top-down drag-clickers, from The Fabulous ***** Machine to The Tribe Must Survive, that strive to find the ***** in a genre that typically places you at a managerial remove. The best-known is probably Frostpunk, with its perpetual raging against the dying of the light, its ceaseless scrape for coal and wood as the temperature falls. Anoxia Station, announced this month, is similarly driven by the gathering of fossil fuels, and similarly shaped by questions of worker ****** and morale, but it takes you deep underground - into a sumptuous, brutal world of quartz crystals, salt caves, magma lakes, moonmilk rivers, swirling gases and, judging from the below trailer, enormous maggots and centipedes. Warning, spoilers for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree lie ahead. Don't look now, but someone's managed to beat Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion on a dance pad, downing all of the key bosses you need to face on the way there. Yup, it might have taken them several hours, but they even bested General Consort Radahn via jigging and jiving. As you might remember, not long after the DLC initially released, we reported on a streamer managing to beat big snake boy Messmer using a dance pad, and since then we've been eagerly awaiting the day when its final boss would fall someone with fleet feet and a keen sense of *******-dodge rhythm. Now, thanks to a veteran of bizarre Elden Ring challenge runs, the wait is over. Read more View the full article

Agatha All Along finally got its first trailer yesterday, but the question is, with WandaVision being more than three years old, will anyone care? Back in 2021, the world was looking quite a bit different. We'd all been stuck in doors for a while then, the film industry had pretty much shut down, but lucky for Marvel, it started its journey into the world of television. Right at the start of 2021, Disney+ received its first Marvel series, WandaVision, which followed Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany's Vision in an era-bending series that quickly convinced viewers that Marvel's attempt at TV might just work. WandaVision also introduced the instant fan favourite character Agatha Harkness, who (spoiler alert) was eventually revealed to be the main antagonist of the series. So, Marvel did what anyone would do and decided to make a spin-off show about the character, and finally, more than three years later, it has a trailer. I'm mostly apathetic about Marvel projects these days, they all use way too much greenscreen and CGI to look even remotely good, but the first trailer for Agatha All Along looks like good enough fun! It kicks off with the titular Agatha as a detective, having forgotten about her witchy past, powers locked away by Wanda, aka the Scarlett Witch. Enter Aubrey Plaza's (Parks and Recreation) character, who appears to remind her of who she actually is, setting off the events of the series. Read more View the full article

The Logitech G309. | Image: Logitech I haven’t thought about charging my Logitech wireless gaming mouse in two and a half years, because I have a magic mousepad that does it automatically. But Logitech mice that work with the Powerplay mousepad are expensive, heavy, or both, and none of them double as a Bluetooth mouse so I can wirelessly pair them to my laptop, handheld, or phone. [/url] Today, Logitech is changing that with the Logitech G309, an $80 mouse that almost does it all. It’s the first Powerplay mouse this inexpensive, the first with Bluetooth, the first that lets you use a AA battery when you’re on the go — and the first Logitech wireless mouse with a supercapacitor inside so you don’t necessarily need a battery at all. Even without Powerplay, the G309 is a dual-mode... Continue reading… View the full article

In an effort to stop top lane being so “uninteractive” in League of Legends Season 14, the Riot Games balance team is putting its collective heads together to rework the Teleport summoner spell (again) and save the lane. Teleport has been changed many times over its decade-long League history, and now it’s found its way onto the chopping block all over again. This time, Riot is worried about how easily good top laners can “wash” lanes with the Rift-hopping spell and wants to minimize its power and presence. View the full article
