Just a few days after launch, Nexon dropped the first official update for The First Descendant. The patch, version 1.0.2, delivers on a promised change, brings a surprise tweak to an annoying group mechanic, and improves your odds of getting certain materials. While many players expected the patch to also nerf - or really, adjust - some of the game’s very strong meta builds, Nexon actually decided to leave them alone. Read more View the full article

Apex Legends’ very own “CEO” ImperialHal has today admitted he thinks the battle royale is dying based on its dwindling player count, with the star streamer now joining a growing camp of fans convinced the game might be beyond saving. Apex is and has been one of the most popular games to come out of the free-to-play shooter ***** of the late 2010s, and perhaps rightfully so. Many of the odds were set up in Respawn Entertainment’s favor. The developer had already secured a dedicated fanbase after Titanfall 2 and players were ready to get their hands on something that used a similar movement system while expanding its scope for multiplayer and competitive gaming. Apex rose to meet those demands with a surprise release in 2019, thriving as one of the strongest competitors to Fortnite, Overwatch, and Call of Duty. In its five year run, there have been 21 seasons of Apex, but recent changes have threatened its staying power. View the full article

However, if a player wishes to upgrade their Retainer's class to a particular job or change their class to a "classless job," the process becomes slightly more complex. For example, if a player becomes an Astrologian in Final Fantasy XIV, they may wonder why there are no options in the Retainer menu to likewise make them an Astrologian. View the full article

Thank your own personal deity—possibly Radahn—it's Friday! If you somehow didn't know, Amazon Prime Day is kicking off early next week, but the deals are leaking out early (as they almost always do). I'm also seeing Ubisoft kick off a Summer ***** that has a few 90% off bargains, too. Until the next week of great savings, do stay safe, save often, and see you then. In retro news, I'm celebrating the 11th birthday of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, a 3DS purchase I'm glad I didn't sleep on. Released in The Year of Luigi (a 30th anniversary celebration), this sequel to 2009's Bowser's Inside Story had a higher focus on the lanky L capped one. Beyond the always addictive level and gear grinding, I remember digging Luiginary Attacks, Luiginoids, and Giant Luigi boss fights, plus a bold new artstyle that became the template for all future entries, like the forthcoming Mario & Luigi: Brothership which I'll probably play the ******* out of, too. One of the great strengths of The Witcher 3 is its star, Big Geralt—a character we as players get to guide through the game's major events, but with a defined history and personality giving those decisions added heft. Geralt isn't a blank amnesiac Chosen One like so many RPG heroes, and I love that—it's clear the writing, acting, and quests are all built around who he is and how he can leave his mark on the world around him. That focus makes a new mod for the game called Custom Player Characters all the more impressive, because it does a pretty dang good job of turning Geralt into any other character you'd like to play as...
