They have, by my count, made approximately 600 Star Wars games over the last few decades. That's pretty weird, because you only need, like, three or four. Those would be TIE Fighter, Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), KOTOR 2, and—I don't know—probably Empire At War... Read more.View the full article

Ubisoft's apology for using a flag from a ********* historical re-enactment group in artwork for *********'s Creed Shadows without permission isn't good enough, the group has said. As reported by Automaton, Sekigahara Teppo-****, a historical re-enactment group made up of volunteers who perform to the public at festivals and other events, published a statement on X/Twitter saying it would also like its image, essentially copied one for one, removed from the printed physical art book featured in the Collector's Edition of *********'s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft is selling this edition for $279.99. Eagle-eyed fans initially noticed the identical recreation of the flag, which can be seen below, in a piece of concept art for the Japan-set *********'s Creed released alongside its full reveal. It was raised to a leading member of the Sekigahara Teppo-****, X/Twitter user @matchlock_kage, who posted a photo of the real flag taken on October 27, 2019, and expressed concern at it being used by Ubisoft without permission. Ubisoft apologized and said it will no longer use the associated artwork (though the nature of the internet means it will be infinitely shared anyway) with one exception: the presumably already printed physical art book. However, this apology was deemed not enough for the historical re-enactment group. "The Sekigahara Teppo-**** members discussed the matter again," X/Twitter user @matchlock_kage said in another post. "We have asked Ubisoft to remove the image from the Collector’s Edition art book. I’m not sure if this will be possible but I’ve contacted Ubisoft through their support." Ubisoft is yet to respond, but IGN has asked for comment. *********'s Creed Shadows was fully revealed in May 2024 as a Japan-set entry where players take control of two protagonists: the stealthy shinobi Naoe and the action-orientated Yasuke, who is a real figure from ********* history. IGN had a wealth of exclusive content on the reveal, and you can read about all the gameplay changes, story beats, and open-world assassinating coming with Shadows in our extensive interview with the development team. If that's not enough, check our analysis and explanation of where and when Shadows is set and 40 key details we've learned about the game. The developer of Steam hit Once Human has responded to a backlash about how cosmetics work and promised changes to the game. Once Human is a free-to-play multiplayer open world survival game from Starry Studio, a developer owned by ******** games company NetEase. It launched on PC on July 9 and quickly found an audience, with an impressive peak concurrent player count of 148,968 on Steam. But Once Human also has a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam, with some players expressing concern about everything from the game’s privacy policy to the use of the NetEase Launcher. In gameplay terms, players have hit out at mandatory seasonal resets and how they can affect your sense of progression and attachment to your character, as well as cosmetics being tied to individual characters. In a tweet from the official Once Human account, NetEase acknowledged this feedback, and promised to make all purchased cosmetics accessible across multiple characters within the same account by August. “If you have already purchased the same cosmetic on different characters within the same account, we will refund the consumed Crystgin or other in-game currency for the additional purchases once the cosmetics are account-wide,” NetEase explained. NetEase had already published a post on the Once Human Steam page addressing the backlash to the mandatory seasonal resets. In it, the company insisted players do not lose their in-game progress every six weeks. Some in-game content will be retained no matter how the seasons and servers change, NetEase promised. This includes important currency, gear blueprints, cosmetics, and main story and side story task progress. However, some content and resources will only be partially carried over when you enter a new season. “In each new season, your character begins at Level 1, and all exploration progress on the World Map is reset,” NetEase said. “This ensures a level playing field for all players in the new season. Additionally, the new scenario will present a different map for exploration and rewards. Each seasonal server will also feature fresh challenges, tasks and rewards.” And earlier this week, NetEase addressed the privacy and launcher concerns. It said it only uses personal data "if we have a legitimate legal basis, such as providing requested services or acting with your expressed consent." "We will only use your data lawfully and reasonably and in accordance with local legal compliance requirements, while practicing the data privacy principles such as data minimization, purpose limitation, and transparency," NetEase continued. And on the NetEase Launcher, NetEase said it offers broader access to games published by NetEase Games, similar to launches from the likes of Blizzard Entertainment. "Like some of our industry peers who run multiple games simultaneously, we hope that the launcher can provide convenient access to multiple NetEase's games for our users," the company said. "However, please note you would only be required to download the launcher if you download Once Human from our official website. Players who play the game from Steam or Epic will NOT need to download or use the launcher." Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. Free-to-play open world survival shooter Once Human has spent its first week in the wilds weathering a series of complaints about its data collection practices, much of it orbiting a line from publisher NetEase's privacy policy in which they state that personal information they receive from you may include "government-issued ID, such as passport information, as required by applicable laws for age verification and correction of personal information". Following a backlash in the user reviews (the game was Mostly Negative on Steam at launch, but has since risen to Mixed) and on social media, the game's developers Starry Studio have published a blog insisting that they harbour no dark intentions for your personal details, or at least, that they harbour intentions no darker than any of the large number of video games that collect your personal information. Nexon has said it will change in-game icons in its shooter The First Descendant, after it was accused of plagiarising art from Destiny 2. The developer of looter shooter The First Descendant has said it will change the icons in the game after it was accused of copying Bungie’s Destiny 2. The First Descendant, a free-to-play shooter from Korean games company Nexon currently blowing up on Steam, was accused of using “barely-changed” Destiny 2 icons soon after release. Forbes pointed to the remarkable similarities between icons used by developer Bungie for its veteran looter shooter and those used by Nexon for its new looter shooter challenger. ‘The First Descendant’ Is Using Barely-Changed ‘Destiny 2’ Icons via @forbes [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Paul Tassi (@PaulTassi) July 7, 2024 Amid the accusations, one Bungie icon artist tweeted to say it “feels like a great day to mention that Bungie icon artists are a super-crew of talented folks with original ideas and sharp instincts.” Fans subsequently unearthed evidence to suggest the root of the problem might have been an icon database called Iconduck that features a Destiny Icons set that includes 204 icons, all supposedly open sourced with a Creative Commons Zero v1.0 Universal license. “All icons can be used for personal and commercial purposes,” Iconduck claims on its website. The designer of the icon set explained that most of the icons in the set were “ripped from the font files created by Bungie and its designers.” At the time, fans speculated that Nexon might have used these Destiny icons from Iconduck and tweaked them slightly for The First Descendant. In a statement issued to IGN, Nexon ******* to explain the process it used for the icons in question, but did admit that Destiny 2 “served as an inspiration during the development process” and promised to make changes. Here’s Nexon’s statement in full: “The First Descendant, as a looter shooter game, was developed with a deep affection and respect for other games in the genre. Destiny 2, being a globally renowned looter shooter game, is also personally admired and respected by the team, and it has served as an inspiration during the development process. We have taken the concerns raised seriously and decided to make adjustments to ensure that the imagery that may appear similar clearly reflects the unique identity of our game. We will continue to improve the game for fans of the looter shooter genre.” Generally speaking, The First Descendant is a mash-up of mechanics from various looter shooters already in the market. There’s more than a whiff of Destiny about The First Descendant’s design, systems, and mechanics, but then there’s also a lot of Warframe about it, too. This week, Nexon released a significant update for The First Descendant that makes some big changes to the game, and leaves some aspects of it that had become a topic of discussion within the community well alone. IGN’s The First Descendant review returned a 5/10. We said: “The First Descendant has all the building blocks of a fantastic looter shooter, but they’re ******* under a pile of monotonous quests, a terrible story, and an infuriating free-to-play model that has influenced its game design in the worst possible way.” Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN.
