  1. ***** has announced that it'll host the fourth annual Sonic Central presentation tomorrow, giving fans a glimpse into some of what's to come in the Sonic the Hedgehog world. The presentation will take place at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 24. ***** didn't reveal specifics of what will be shown outside of "a sneak peek of some of our upcoming projects, partnerships, and events happening through 2025." Think fast! Sonic Central premieres TOMORROW at 9am PST. [Hidden Content] — Sonic the Hedgehog (@sonic_hedgehog) September 23, 2024 It should mark a busy day for gaming news, as Sony also just announced the latest State of Play for later on Tuesday. As for what could be at the Sonic Central, ***** could always announce new projects, but there are a few things on the docket that we already know about. The most immediate is the impending release of Sonic x Shadow Generations, an enhanced version of 2011's Sonic Generations featuring new standalone content starring Shadow the Hedgehog. It'll be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on October 25. Meanwhile, Sonic Rumble, a new Fall Guys-esque battle royale game, is due out for iOS and Android sometime this winter. And while the focus will likely be on games, there's also the burgeoning Sonic Cinematic Universe to think about. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will hit theaters on December 20, and Paramount Pictures finally unveiled the first trailer for the latest in the live-action movie series earlier this month. It featured the first listen of Keanu Reeves as Shadow, something fans have been eager to hear more of. Tomorrow's Sonic Central will livestream on Sonic the Hedgehog's Twitch and YouTube channels. For more Sonic to sate your appetite in the meantime, check out our Sonic x Shadow Generations interview with ***** from gamescom. Alex Stedman is a Senior News Editor with IGN, overseeing entertainment reporting. When she's not writing or editing, you can find her reading fantasy novels or playing Dungeons & Dragons. 2. In line with Riot’s policy of bringing the old and battered champs of yore up to speed, at least visually, Teemo has finally had his long-awaited visual update confirmed. The redesign, while not too substantial, is slated to be released alongside League of Legends Patch 14.20. Riot confirmed this in a Sept. 23 dev diary and gave League fans a deep ***** into the creative process behind the art and sustainability update (****). The little critter’s old design was pretty basic and didn’t do much to highlight Teemo’s character, despite all the effort put in by the voice actor. The updated variant is precisely aiming to correct this by giving Teemo a more lively, cheerful look that actually has animated movement and a proper recall that shows him moving about rather than just, well, standing there menacingly. 3. Baldur’s Gate 3 diverged from the previous entries in the series with turn-based combat, but a modder is now aiming to bring the title back to its roots. With the new mod tools, modder tinybike has sucessfully made BG3 into a game with real-time combat, though it’s still in development. In a YouTube video published on Sept. 21, the modder showcased how they’ve implemented real-time combat into Baldur’s Gate 3, a title with a detailed and beautiful turn-based combat system. In the video, the player character and an NPC bat it out without pausing to think, though a pause function would probably help out in larger battles (like in Dragon Age: Origins or Kenshi). As the modder explains, this “barebones” system is still very early in development, and it’s probably not recommended that you take it into a campaign. Nevertheless, it’s an exciting change that could see Baldur’s Gate 3 completely shaken up when fully developed and implemented. View the full article
  4. If you're still chasing 100% completion in ****** Myth: Wukong on PC, you'll be happy to know that the new game update has fixed the issue preventing achievement completion. In addition to this, multiple other PC-specific fixes have landed, including a Turkish language fix, and one for undefeatable enemies. In our ****** Myth: Wukong review, we note that the ambitious action RPG is a "GOTY contender of epic proportions." After playing around with the free benchmark tool that was made available before release, everything appeared to be running without issue, but once ****** Myth: Wukong was released, it was apparent that some rather disruptive PC-specific bugs needed squashing. 5. I'm a ******* for pretty games, I'll admit it. From high fantasy worlds like Baldur's Gate 3's Faerûn, to the gore and hopelessness of Diablo's Sanctuary - where there's strong worldbuilding and gorgeous vistas, I'll be there. Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori offers all that and more, with a historical twist that makes this writer smile. 13th century Mongolia is your playground, and your horse the only ally you've ever needed - it's the best part of Red ***** Redemption 2, mixed with an intriguing historical setting brought to life in stunning detail. 10. A new Fortnite patch is expected to be released on September 24, and despite its smaller size, the update will introduce some unique content for fans to enjoy. 12. New Evolutions are coming thick and fast in EA FC 25, with plenty of players to consider. If you’re taking a look at the From Box-to-Box Evolution, we’ve got some tips on the best players to choose. 13. Arena and Swarm have been massively successful endeavors in League of Legends, becoming some of the most played non-Summoner’s Rift game modes. However, as things stand, neither can become permanent additions, and Riot Games thinks that’s for the best. Riot clarified its decision to make Arena and Swarm rotating modes and had a whole lot more to say in a Sept. 23 dev diary focusing on the future of the two modes. In it, Riot’s devs elaborated on the incredible success Arena had initially, but also how it saw significant losses in terms of player count after the first two months. “Arena performed very well for the first two months of its run, but then engagement started to dip significantly,” the devs said, adding, “We believe this is due to a lack of novelty and progression systems that would keep Arena players coming back.” View the full article
  14. Riot Games is finally adding a new member to the massively popular League of Legends virtual K-pop group K/DA—sort of. 15. When it comes to DDR5 gaming RAM, Corsair seems to be a little off the pace these days, despite being one of the first memory manufacturers to have DDR5 products available when Intel's 13th-gen Alder Lake CPUs first launched. As a case in point, these Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5 modules look superb, but they're expensive for what's on offer. Corsair is now struggling to offer any products to compete with the best gaming RAM from the likes of Kingston with its Fury Renegade DDR5 RGB kits. Even the slower 5,200MHz Corsair kits, such as the one on test here, cost much more than the faster competition, such as the ADATA XPG Lancer RGB and Kingston Fury ****** DDR5 RGB. (credit: Aurich Lawson | Boss ****** Books) [/url] As someone who has been following the growth of generative AI for a while now, I know that the technology can be pretty good (if not quite human-level) at quickly summarizing complex documents into a more digestible form. But I still wasn't prepared for how disarmingly compelling it would be to listen to Google's NotebookLM condense my recent book about Minesweeper into a tight, 12.5-minute, podcast-style conversation between two people that don't exist. There are still enough notable issues with NotebookLM's audio output to prevent it from fully replacing professional podcasters any time soon. Even so, the podcast-like format is an incredibly engaging and endearing way to take in complex information and points to a much more personable future for generative AI than the dry back-and-forth of a text-based chatbot.
