  1. To say Top ****: Maverick was a massive hit back in 2022 is an understatement. It landed a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and went on to shockingly earn almost $1.5 billion worldwide after one of the longest theatrical runs of the post-pandemic era. Of course, Paramount Pictures wants to keep the now-series going, but Tom Cruise's schedule was a bit of a problem. Now, Twisters co-star Glen Powell, who had a major secondary role in Maverick, is giving us some hope that the threequel may happen sooner rather than later. Earlier this year, Powell didn't play into online rumors about the threequel heating up at Paramount and Skydance. Now, however, his tune has changed (via Variety), seemingly signaling that things are starting to move fast. "I mean, I have a date," Powell said regarding a return to fighter jets for Top **** 3 during the episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast with his Twisters co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones. Whether that means he's starting physical prep or going back into pilot school well ahead of filming ******** to be seen, but it's worth noting, as everyone was under the assumption that the next Top **** would take a while to get going. In fact, producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently told everyone to calm down. Read more View the full article
  2. After a significant outcry from the community, Honkai: Star Rail has officially recast the role of the upcoming character Moze. The news comes days after the playerbase vocally called for controversial voice actor Chris Niosi to be replaced due to his history of inappropriate behavior and domestic ******. A replacement voice actor has yet to be confirmed but developer HoYoverse will share more details on the situation and how it impacts Moze's eventual release in the near future. View the full article
  3. Ok, you remember that Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns incantation FromSoft showed off as part of the official images for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree we got long before it came out. Yeah, the one that turns your Tarnished into a hedgehog, kinda? Well, someone's now beaten the entirety of the base game and the DLC using just that, in less than 13 hours. To be fair, given that Shadow of the Erdtree has already been beaten on its own by a streamer on a dance pad, who then went on to merk Messmer or two devices at once, we probably shouldn't be too surprised. This time, Elden Ring challenge run specialist Distortion2 was up to the plate, having decided to use what they themselves describe as "one of the worst spells" in the game, to beat every boss from Margit, to the Elden ******, and then Promised Consort Radahn. 4. One of ***** by Daylight’s biggest hurdles for potential players has always been its price tag. However, that obstacle will temporarily disappear between July 27 and 28 as the game becomes available for free during this *******. This promotional event mirrors strategies used by other popular titles like Call of Duty, where developers aim to attract as many new players as possible. Such promos often have one goal: to give people a taste of the game, hoping the experience will convince them to buy it. View the full article
  5. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree added two new tools to the game that are very similar: the Priestess Heart and the Rock Heart. Because these two tools have a lot in common, players are forced to weigh their options and decide which is better. Were the items more distinct from one another, it would likely be easier for players to know which one they preferred. One of the two is slightly more difficult to acquire, as it requires ******** Bayle the Dread, but that doesnt automatically mean its the better choice. View the full article

  7. I—that is, specifically, generative AI—is a bit of a nightmare for just about any creative industry. While I've personally seen no compelling evidence that AI-generated sludge comes even close to replacing the people-made stuff (and is inherently fuelled by that hard work, anyway) that doesn't mean ***** under the weight of hype-huffing execs who've spied an opportunity to pay fewer people less money... 8. “Corn core” sounds like an obscure subgenre of heavy metal that would make your parents ashamed of you, but it’s not. 9. You know, when I first booted up Monster Train back in 2020, I rolled my eyes. “Oh, a Slay the Spire clone, is it?” I chided. But within about 10 minutes, Monster Train had completely derailed all those pithy little putdowns that were gestating in the back of my head. In under half an hour, it had punched my ticket, good and proper. This is no mere clone of Mega Crit’s 2019 deck-building opus, no. It’s a fully-fledged competitor; a competent rethinking of the genre, a serious rival that legitimised roguelike deck-builders as a genre. And I fell in love with it. The game remixes Slay the Spire’s genius ideas with its own, unique flair. Instead of pushing forward to the heart of all evil in Slay the Spire, Monster Train flips the script somewhat – and has you defending against waves of angelic foes that are ***** set on extingusihing the ***** you’re chaperoning to the heart of the underworld in order to rekindle the flames of ***** (yes, really). It’s got more of a tower defense vibe to it, then; setting you and your team of demons against other teams of behorned baddies. It’s a less lonely affair than Slay the Spire, where your lone warrior/thief/****** pushes into the hostile world. Read more View the full article

  11. Yet again, some good food. Following the news earlier this week that 241 Bethesda Games Studios staffers had formed what was at the time the biggest wall-to-wall under Microsoft, The Verge reports that over 500 World Of Warcraft developers have voted to form their own union, alongside the Communication Workers of America (CWA). 13. Image: Team FOLON It’ll be some time before Bethesda releases a new Fallout game, but in the meantime, some enterprising fans have taken it upon themselves to release a big expansion for Fallout 4. The long-in-development mod Fallout: London is available now to download for free via GOG and is also compatible with the Steam version of Fallout 4. There is a catch, however: you need to be using the version of the game before the recent next-gen update. (A next-gen compatible version is also in the works, though it doesn’t have a date yet.) In development since 2019, the London mod introduces a new location and story to the postapocalyptic world, complete with fully voiced characters and 200 different quests. There’s an estimated 90 hours of gameplay... Continue reading… View the full article
  14. It's been a long time coming but those patient Fallout 4 fans who've waited five years for the extensive Fallout: London conversion mod can now finally begin their journey through the derelict streets of the ***'s capital. Developed by a group of hobbyists and professionals going by the name Team FOLON, Fallout: London is one of the most ambitious modding projects ever seen for any Fallout game and the fact that it exists at all is a testament to the creators' perseverance. Despite plenty of setbacks, launch day is here and the community couldn't be more excited. View the full article

  16. Earth Defense Force 6, like the rest of the EDF series, is superbly wacky, kinetic, and imaginative. The co-op, arcade-style shooter is sadly becoming a relic, and I'm glad that Earth Defense Force is still alive - and still obliterating gigantic insectoid aliens en masse - in 2024. But despite its retro visuals and maximalist gunplay, the Earth Defense Force 6 Steam release has been marred by one particular technical wrinkle, similar to the PSN account linking snafu that scuppered the reputation of Helldivers 2. Currently lumbered with a 'very negative' rating on Valve's store, EDF 6 is having a tough launch day. Read the rest of the story... 17. The launch of the World of Warcraft The War Within patch has proven a little more troublesome than Blizzard likely expected. The update has just rolled out in the iconic MMORPG ahead of the next expansion's arrival, but it's already been marred by several problems. Following the decision to temporarily switch off the new Warband Warbanks, Blizzard now announces that it has disabled cross-realm trading in WoW. Read the rest of the story... 19. Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics shocked the world when it was unveiled during last month’s Nintendo Direct. Those who didn’t spend their childhoods in arcades watching Ryu and Cyclops shake hands may be wondering what the big deal is, but for many, this was an announcement over a decade in the making. After getting a chance to take three of the seven games included in the collection for a spin at Evo 2024 last weekend, we’re feeling confident that this is going to be a return to glory for Capcom’s vaunted Vs. franchise, and another feather in the cap of a genre in full renaissance mode. First, for those unaware, Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is a bundle of seven games – six 2D fighters and one side-scrolling beat’-em-up – which were all a collaborative effort between Marvel and Capcom. 22. The Pokémon Company is releasing a special Pikachu card to celebrate the 2024 World Championships, which anyone can get, even if you don’t attend the in-person event. The card is only available in certain regions, though, or through specific methods, so not every country can get their hands on it. You also need to act fast if you want to get one, as scalpers are likely lining up to grab and resell the card, just like the cursed Van Gogh event in January 2024. View the full article
  23. World of Warcraft’s latest pre-patch just dropped in preparation for The War Within, and it’s totally tubular. Patch 11.0 introduces a buttload of bodacious features like Warbands and Skyriding, and one player discovered a “********” bug that lets you skate like Tony Hawk in Moonkin form. The WoW player shared their discovery in a July 25 Reddit thread. Skyriding is a gnarly feature that lets you use dynamic flight with most flying mounts in the game, but Redditor MarineQueefPrime discovered a ********’ interaction that happens when you land with a “surfing”-style mount, like a magic tome. 24. The First Descendant's recent updates to a popular farming strategy proves the game's staying power. The First Descendant recently put out its 1.0.4 update. It's a simple hotfix mainly focused on balance (though it also confirmed the identity of the next Descendant). However, the update also contained a much-dreaded change to what players call the "Valby Run." The Valby Run is a gold, XP, and kuiper-farming exploit termed after the playable character of the same name. View the full article
