  1. After Riot suggested the next League champion in line for a rework will feature in the upcoming Arcane Season 2, we might have figured out who that is. A new ***** claims it is Viktor, a veteran of the League of Legends roster who has remained relatively the same for 13 years. On July 28, League of Legends Leaks and News posted the ***** on X (formerly Twitter), claiming Viktor will receive a rework in the form of a VGU (Visual and Gameplay Update) and that it will “celebrate the release of Arcane Season 2 later this year.” If this is true, Viktor’s VGU will launch sometime after the series’ second season starts on Nov. 2, which is only three months away. 5. Borderlands is a funny old series—one I have plenty of affection for, clumsy story aside. Its formula hasn't changed much in the past few years, ignoring the industry landslide of looter shooters all becoming live service games in favour of your bog-standard ARPG model, sans some expansion packs and class additions along the way... 6. The story of Mortal Kombat games in recent years has been a mish-mash of double-crosses, weird friendships, and alternate dimension wobbles. They often feel like a casualty of Marvel movie bloat. Mortal Kombat 1 was marketed as a "reboot", for example, but is really just a continuation of previous nonsense, with developers NetherRealm saying "I don't know, stick a multiverse in it." Yet from that multiverse now arrives another bad guy, bringing new story chapters for the fighting game's first big expansion, as well as extra characters like the liquid metal ********* from Terminator 2, a Conan of the barbarian persuasion, and the masked ******* of the Scream movies. 7. A time capsule is a boxful of objects from today's world, ******* or otherwise hidden away so that people from the future can rediscover and understand current Hot Trends such as wearing mismatched socks or electing washed-up businessmen with fascist tendencies. Unless, that is, it's a time capsule in sci-fi ocean survival game Subnautica, in which case it contains: THE FUTURE. Developers Unknown Worlds have been sneaking pictures of the forthcoming Subnautica 2 into the original game's time capsules, offering glimpses of its flora and fauna. Read more View the full article

  11. Exotic class items were introduced to Destiny 2 with The Final Shape expansion, and apart from being some of the strongest Exotics in the game, they can also be incredibly hard to get—but upcoming buffs should make them easier to obtain. In a This Week in Destiny blog post on July 25, Bungie announced buffs to Exotic class items coming to Destiny 2 in early August. The update increases the chances of drops from Overthrow chests. Every Overthrow chest you open in the Pale Heart increases the odds of getting the drop, and higher-tier chests have higher chances. 13. Path of Exile has a brand-new expansion with Settlers of Kalguur, causing thousands of players to flock back to the game over the weekend to try out the new content, gear up new characters, and experiment with new builds. It's a time for celebration for PoE players, but some opinions on the update are still up in the air courtesy of a new threat: tornadoes. You see, as part of Settlers of Kalguur, you need to assist in the construciton of a town side-by-side with a number of recognizable characters. To do so, you'll need to collect various new resources around Wraeclast, including Bismuth. Each resource has its own quirks, but Bismuth is deeply connected to elemental powers. This means that the process of harvesting it can result in a deadly reaction — namely tornadoes — which follow the player endlessly until they leave the map. Movement is the name of the game in Path of Exile, but every now and again you'll need to stop to loot or adjust your inventory. Or *****, just to have a stretch. But with these tornadoes they're always chasing you down at significant speeds. They deal serious damage too! One mistep and you can find yourself dashed to the winds, so to speak. There's also visibility concerns for some players, especially on maps where your surroundings are dark, making it hard to actually see these tornadoes coming. 17. Happy this week! I return from holiday to find that Nic, James and the others have been experimenting with the use of Maw-shaped sock puppets to feed the Maw, in the hope that the Maw might form a filial bond with our news-wranglers. Unfortunately, we've learned in the process that anything that resembles the Maw behaves like the Maw. The sockpuppets were last seen tunnelling towards Los Angeles, like the sandworms in Dune. Sorry, America! Anyway, let's have a looksie at the PC game release sheets. Read more View the full article

  19. Capcom says it’s on track to achieve its earnings forecast for the year, and that all of its business segments outperformed its plan in the most recent quarter. The Monster Hunter publisher reported its financial results for the three months ended June 30, 2024, and said that it was on track, despite net sales (down 32.5%) and operating income (down 46.4%) both being significantly down year-over-year. The company attributed the year-over-year decline to the release of Street Fighter 6 last June, and noted that its releases are heavily stacked towards the second half of its financial year, which ends in March 2025. 20. Later this week, Blizzard developers will sit down to discuss much of what we can expect from Diablo 4’s next season, Season 5. We’re probably going to learn its official name, for one, but what everyone is really excited about are the changes coming to the game with Season 5. Diablo 4 already hosted a PTR for Season 5, so the broader strokes are fairly well understood, but Blizzard hasn’t revealed everything just yet - which is where this week’s show comes in. 21. The next mainline Borderlands game might be announced very soon if Gearbox boss ****** Pitchford’s words are to be taken at face value. After all, the timing seems to line up—the Borderlands movie is right around the corner, and we had Borderlands 3 a good five years back. “I’m confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with the next video game project when we are ready to announce it,” Pitchford told GamesRadar in a July 27 interview. “I will tell you that we’re not going to be making people wait for a long time before we announce it.” View the full article

  24. Jeff the Land Shark has barely been available in Marvel Rivals for a day, but players have already discovered a hilarious game-breaking interaction with his ultimate that left unsuspecting enemies stuck in the wrong team’s spawn. Jeff’s ultimate, “It’s Jeff!,” sees the Strategist ***** below the battlefield and, after a short delay, summons a massive whirlpool swallowing up all allies and enemies. Jeff can then travel a short distance before spitting everyone out, dealing damage along the way. It’s not the damage that’s causing the ruckus, however: A viral clip from @bogur47 on TikTok shows Jeff spitting an ****** hero into Jeff’s own spawn—where they cannot leave. 25. Despite being just an extension of Bethesda’s 2015 hit RPG, the Fallout London mod has garnered a lot of attention. But players haven’t exactly had the perfect experience. If you have been facing crashing issues, you certainly aren’t alone. While it’s common for crashing issues to pop up right after a game launches, the London mod’s current condition has left the Fallout 4 community impressed and annoyed. It’s a great mod, thanks to the team of professional modders behind the idea and development, but many players have been unable to enjoy the experience because the mod frequently stops working after loading up.
