  1. Yes, it's that time again, Disney+ prices are going up on both its ad-free and ad-inclusive tiers, so make sure you have a couple of dollars to spare a month. It seems like these days price increases for streaming services is becoming an annual tradition, as Disney raised the price of its streaming service just last year. Well, it's doing it again, as the house of mouse has confirmed another price hike is coming some time this coming October 17. Disney+ with ads will be jumping up by two dollars, from $7.99 per month to $9.99 per month, and those of you with an ad-free subscription will be seeing the same bump, jumping from $13.99 to $15.99 per month. On the ad-free tier you can save a bit of dough by opting for a year-long subscription, but that's getting an increase too, from $139.99 a year to $159.99. On the plus side, Disney+ is reinviting TV channels, yippee! That's definitely the thing you want to see when you're having to fork over two extra dollars a month, right? Sure, Disney isn't calling them TV channels, instead opting for the very agreed-upon-in-a-boardroom-meeting title of "continuous playlists." In a statement, Disney+ president Alisa Bowen said "Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+. Whether it's news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest." 2. The EA FC 25 beta is finally live—well, sort of. The first proper test for EA’s newest soccer sim has already fallen a couple of early goals behind due to difficulties with the beta, so let’s see if it can be fixed. EA FC 25 is the second iteration of the world’s biggest-selling soccer title since it rebranded. The first entry was a safe start, but EA FC 25 is looking to step things up by welcoming new features to Career Mode and introducing FC IQ. View the full article
  3. ***** by Daylight has revealed details about the upcoming collaboration with Castlevania. As ***** by Daylight collaborates with other horror game franchises such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, among others, it also continues to explore genres that would not necessarily classify as scary, macabre, or downright frightening. The most recent video game icon to make it into the game was Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. View the full article
  4. Ahead of the first-ever look at ****** Ops 6 Zombies mode gameplay later this week, Treyarch dropped a cinematic trailer that sets the scene for the return of the popular co-op mode. 6. Back in June, strategy bods Creative Assembly put out a chunky, chatty video discussing the next expansion for Total War: Warhammer 3. Aside from a not-so-subtle hint that the orcs, ogres, and Khorne pack would feature at least one colossal squig, it also ended with a tease at smaller bits of new content coming alongside regular patches. As of the game’s latest hotfix blog, we’ve now got a better idea when we’ll start seeing some of these “smaller bits and pieces.” Bits and pieces? In this economy? Yes, and this month in fact. “Late August” to be precise by quoting a vague statement precisely. Read more View the full article
  7. Who would best suit the title if you had to name the second most controversial VALORANT agent after Chamber? Here’s a hint: It’s not Jett. When a Redditor said Viper is “still OP” in a popular post on Aug. 6, players hit back with justifiable reasons why she is the weakest controller in VALORANT’s current meta, leaving the verdict pretty uncertain. 8. Massive Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London has had a launch filled with plenty of technical teething issues that have impacted a lot of players’ attempts to delve right into Ol’Blighty right out of the gate. While there have been some steps you can take to make the mod ****** less often, Team FOLON is planning on making sure that process is a lot more convenient for those who might not be used to trawling Nexus Mods or messing around with files. As part of a recent interview with VG247, which you’ll be able to read more of here over the next little bit, Fallout: London project manager Dean ‘Prilladog’ Carter outlined what things have been like for the team since release, and the plans it has to rectify the mod’s technical hiccups. 10. Soldiers of Super Earth are rallying to Helldivers 2, with the Escalation of Freedom update launching yesterday seeing the title ****** 60,000 concurrent players for the first time in well over a month. The real question: How long will they ****** the good ******? Concurrent player counts hit 62,819 for the release of Helldivers 2’s Escalation of Freedom, according to stats site SteamDB. As far as historical numbers are concerned, it’s a drop in the bucket for the Arrowhead Game Studios title, but given Helldivers 2 hadn’t surpassed 37,000 concurrents through most of July, it’s given devs and long-time fans hope that new content for the game will keep others interested for longer. 11. Today’s LoLdle quote was a bit of a challenge, which I suppose I brought on myself considering I’ve been asking for ******* League of Legends champion quotes for some time now. Like today’s character, this one hunted me down. Only those who love marksman in **** and top lane in Season 14—or veteran ADC players—may know the LoLdle quote from today. I’ve included the answer below. View the full article
  12. If you have been missing the original Battlefield experience or you’re really just looking for a decent free-to-play realistic shooter title to grind with friends, Tencent-backed studio Team *****’s latest release is built to impress you. A remaster of the iconic Delta Force FPS series, Delta Force: Hawk Ops mingles Battlefield’s war and class-based PvP with Escape from Tarkov’s extraction elements, creating magic in the process. That said, while it probably sounds like something you’d love, it hasn’t officially made it to the market—yet. As of now, you can only try it out in its ongoing closed alpha test on PC, which unfortunately isn’t easy to get into. View the full article

  14. Well, summer may be coming to an end later this month in the eyes of many, but officially, the season doesn't end until September 21. So technically, there's still time throughout the month to cram in any summer-related activities. For example, there's the traditional summer road trip. And what better way to take one last road trip than driving a van across a sci-fi world inspired by the Provence region of France? That's what Provence-based developers Studio Plane Toast have prepared with their upcoming game Caravan SandWitch, which now officially has a September release window, as announced in the new trailer below, which sees our main character Sauge initially setting off to the world of Cigalo, ready to search for her lost sister. 15. Bungie is handing out free bundles of Bright Dust in Destiny 2 again after yet another element of The Final Shape‘s Pathfinder bounty system has ******* to capture the player base. From restrictive activities to a lack of rewards, it’s becoming very clear the system needs an overhaul. Destiny 2 players will be able to pick up 350 Bright Dust from Eva Levante each week for the next two-ish months, which will help those wanting to secure a few goodies from Eververse without spending real cash. It’s in response to less-than-expected currency on offer through Pathfinder, the game’s new bounty and challenge system. “Players aren’t earning as much Bright Dust as we expected,” Destiny 2 community lead dmg04 said today. 16. Truthfully, I don’t know anything about batteries or how they’re made. All I’ve ever needed to know is they make things work. However, NYT Crossword puzzle clue “One end of a battery” proves there’s more to batteries than just popping them out of the box. This clue is from the NYT’s Aug. 7 mini crossword puzzle. While it may be easy to solve for those who know a thing or two about batteries, for those of us who don’t it’s almost impossible—which is why I’ve included four hints to help you. 17. It’s not often a clue stumps me, but one of today’s NYT Mini Crossword clue had me questioning everything, including my (admittedly limited) knowledge of sippy cups. “The tip of a sippy cup, essentially,” is a tricky one-across clue from the Aug. 7 NYT mini-crossword puzzle. It’s safe to say this answer is a bit obscure because what I envision as a sippy cup isn’t apparently not quite what this clue writer envisions as a sippy cup. Yet, somehow, we’re both right. If you’re here, you might also be a tad confused about what the tip of the sippy cup is too. So, the answer is below. View the full article
  18. Decent Void bows, short of Le Monarque, are hard to come by in Destiny 2—but Bungie has heard and answered, rolling out the Fortunate Star for Solstice 2024. This Lightweight Void bow has landed and should be an instant addition to your collection thanks to its range of **** rolls up for grabs. That said, which **** roll rules them all? Here’s our pick for the PvE and PvP **** rolls for Fortunate Star in Destiny 2. View the full article
  19. Esports legend FormaL has made it clear he’s considering a return to competitive Call of Duty almost three years after announcing his retirement, but there’s one gameplay feature that Activision would need to get right: CoD‘s “over-the-top” aim assist. The 29-year-old Halo and CoD veteran has heavily hinted recently he’s keen on checking out ****** Ops 6 this September—and he’s so interested he may even pick up the controller and go pro once more. “I am planning on playing [****** Ops 6], I’m planning on playing that ******** ***** professionally,” he said in July, though he wouldn’t give anything away when questioned by Scump during coverage of the CoD Championships. 20. Welcome to Wednesday, start of the homestretch into a weekend you should stock cheap games for. I've got a whole bunch of things worth squirreling away, too, like that Pandora's Box of Borderlands titles, budget LEGO games on Switch, and more. Head sub-level to start the savings in earnest... In retro news, I'm celebrating the 22nd bday of Alien Hominid, a Metal Slug-ish by the folks who would go on to craft Castle Crashers. Uploaded as a Flash browser game on the legendary multimedia website Newgrounds, Alien Hominid was one of the first notable indie darlings that really turned my head. It was tough as nails, great in two-player, and revitalised OG run 'n' gunning for a modern audience. Better yet, it sported a hilariously irreverent plot centred around a bunch of **** Kids helping a homicidal E.T. stick it to the man/men in ******, plus the KGB, to retrieve its ship. 21. Diablo 4 players who played last season are rejoicing now Season Five’s here, with an odd seasonally-linked glitch allowing new characters to keep all the Tempering recipes you earned over the action RPG’s last major update. This bug means players are starting Season Five a whole lot stronger—and the best part is Blizzard is actually letting it slide (at least for this season). View the full article
  22. I can't imagine why you'd leave both Karlach and Astarion out of your party, unless your version of Tav, the hero of Baldur's Gate 3, is some kind of obscene rogue/barbarian multiclass who has both their specialties covered. That's what happened at GenCon's live Dungeons & Dragons show, however, when voice actors Samantha Béart and Neil Newbon explored what their characters get up to when they wander off on their own, live on stage with Dungeon Master Aabria Iyengar and fellow players Anjali Bhimani (DesiQuest) and Brennan Lee Mulligan (Dimension 20)... This quest features many rinse-and-repeat steps, much like the Solstice event itself. You’ll spend most of your time here focusing on unlocking the various armor alloys you can use with the Solstice Forge. After you have at least one piece from each slot, it’s time to add an Incandescence effect to your armor as the final touch. Here’s what you need to know about how to complete every step in A Glowing Solstice in Destiny 2. View the full article
  24. Creatures of Ava is a familiar kind of creature-collecting game with a more than a few unique twists. It's the second development effort by Inverge Studios, the developer behind the action platformer Effie, but with the bonus addition of 11 bit Studios (Frostpunk, The Thaumaturge, Indika) behind it. But Creatures of Ava is entirely different from anything else in either studio's repertoire. In fact, despite wearing its inspirations on its sleeve, Creatuers of Ava is unlike any other game in recent memory. View the full article
  25. Theres jumping, dashing, and laser sword slashing in the upcoming Eden Genesis, but what this cyberpunk platformer desperately needs is a reliable sensation of speed. Published and developed by Spain-based Aeternum Game Studios responsible for the well-received metroidvania Aeterna Noctis and its roguelite variant Summum Aeterna Eden Genesis challenging forebearers set the tone, but some peculiar design ticks make it feel more fidgety than freewheeling, and its leaderboard-oriented essence is at odds with its dragged-out narrative and limited length. Overall, Eden Genesis is a clumsy ******, a speedrunner showcase that feels too sluggish to satisfy. View the full article
