With the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection on the horizon, a whole new generation of players will be able to hop into an official version of some of Capcom's most beloved games. This includes Marvel vs Capcom 2 which has a wide variety of merits, including a small selection of original characters. These include SonSon, the granddaughter of a classic Capcom character of the same name, Ruby Rose the pirate, and the much-adored Amingo the humanoid cactus. These characters had their own fanbases back in the hayday of Marvel vs Capcom 2, but according to producer Shuhei Matsumoto, their return isn't off the cards. "Yeah, there's always a possiblity," Matsumoto states via a translator at Evo 2024. "This is actually a great opportunity for us, because when we do release this collection, there are going to be a lot more people who'll be able to familiarize themselves with the characters who only appeared in these versus series. If there are enough people who are interested in these characters, then who knows? Maybe there is a chance they could appear in Street Fighter 6 or another fighting game. This is another great reason to re-release these old games, it gets people to learn more about the IP and the series. That just creates a ******* pool of content for us to work with." I’ve crossed many bridges in my lifetime. You’ve likely crossed a bridge or two, but this doesn’t necessarily help you solve the “Length of a bridge” clue for today’s NYT Mini Crossword. We take bridges for granted in everyday life. Such a simple piece of construction aids the journey from a piece of land to the opposite side. However, I’ve never considered the metrics of a bridge—until now. View the full article
World Championship qualification for Pokémon esports will change in 2025, and most players have differing opinions on whether the changes are good or bad. From 2025, only a set number of players who finish at the top of the regional leaderboards get an invite to the Pokémon World Championships. This differs from the previous method, which required players to hit a certain point threshold to be guaranteed an invite, no matter where they placed. View the full article
Despite all the hype surrounding The Sims 4's latest expansion Lovestruck, players haven't been too impressed with the state of the game, an issue Maxis will hopefully remedy with its next patch. Lovestruck may have added a wealth of new systems and mechanics that the community has spent years requesting but the free update for the base game, which dropped alongside the DLC, unfortunately rendered several parts of the title unplayable. Users have complained about everything from minor problems like Sims being uncharacteristically unkind to major issues like crashes deleting entire saves. View the full article

WolfEye Studios president and co-founder of Arkane Studios Raphaël Colantonio has said Dishonored and Prey fans “will be happy” with his new studio's next game. Colantonio, who left Arkane in 2017 after co-creating Dishonored and directing Prey, teased WolfEye Studios' next game on X/Twitter by saying “fans of the previous first person games I was involved with (Dishonored and Prey) will be happy” with it. “We’ll reveal a bit more about our next game in a few days,” he added. Colantonio's WolfEye Studios was formed in 2019 following his departure from Arkane Austin. The studio's first game, a third person dark fantasy adventure called Weird West, got a positive reception following its 2022 release on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. We’ll reveal a bit more about our next game in a few days… Fans of the previous 1st person games I was involved with (Dishonored and Prey) will be happy. — Raphael Colantonio (@rafcolantonio) August 6, 2024 In IGN’s 8/10 review we said Weird West “more than lives up to its name in all the right ways,” while boasting some of the immersive sim elements that Arkane Studios was known for. The studio appears set to lean even more heavily on its Arkane heritage for the next game, which seems to be shaping up as a retro, first person, sci-fi role-playing game. “We're showing to the industry partners (publishers, etc), but not to the press or the public yet. Can't wait though,” wrote Colantonio in a subsequent post. A continuation of actual Dishonored could make an appearance in the coming years too, as Dishonored 3 appeared on an outdated list of upcoming Bethesda titles that surfaced during Microsoft’s protracted legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission in 2023. It's unclear how concrete those plans still are, however, following the mass lay-offs at Xbox which included the complete shutting down of Arkane Austin. If you're one of the House of the Dragon fans that have come away a bit underwhelmed by the season 2 finale, that's probably because the crew is keeping something big for season 3. Not every season finale is going to be a belter, and for some fans, that was the case for House of the Dragon season 2. I wouldn't worry about the show too much, as it will be getting two more seasons (with season 4 being the last one), but still, it's understandable if you were wondering where a particular moment you might have been expecting ended up. Showrunner Ryan Condal recently spoke at a press conference to explain where The Battle of the Gullet is, a highly anticipated moment from the books, and mostly it sounds like the reason for its absence is a budgetary one. "One of the challenges of making television at any scale [is] nobody has infinite time and resources," Condal explained. "When you’re a showrunner, you’re always in the position of having to balance storytelling and the resources that you have to tell that story… We wanted to rebalance the story in such a way that we had three great seasons of television [after season one] to round out and tell this story. When you’re trying to mount the show, which requires a tremendous amount of resources, construction, armour, costumes, visual effects… we are trying to give The Gullet - which is arguably the second most anticipated action event of ***** & Blood - trying to give it the time and the space that it deserves." Stop me if you’ve heard something like this before. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead unleashed some ******* balancing tweaks alongside the Escalation of Freedom update, at least one of them was a nerf, and some players really aren’t happy about that. Yep, forget the new stuff and other tweaks the update included, we’re - for better or worse - back to discourse as to whether the studio bringing us Super Earth’s galactic struggle should be taking so-called meta weapons down a peg, or doing more listening to players who don’t want to see their favourite armaments potentially made a bit less fun to use. The Escalation of Freedom update for Helldivers 2 nerfed flames and the SG-225IE Breaker. The community didn’t take the changes lightly, and Arrowhead Game Studios chimed in to address the feedback. Those of you hoping to go into anime like Dandadan without seeing any spoilers need to be careful, as the first few episodes have been leaked. With Jujutsu Kaisen fans waiting on news for season 3, and Chainsaw Man fans holding out for anything about the upcoming movie, there's a bit of a shonen ***** to be filled in the world of anime. Dandadan, a manga created by a former assistant of Chainsaw Man's Tatsuki Fujimoto, is currently set to receive an anime this coming October, with the first three episodes planned to have their English dub premiere at Anime NYC this coming August 24. Except the first couple of episodes of Dandadan have appeared to have been leaked online, as confirmed by Anime News Network. Leaks do happen from time to time, but rarely do they happen so far in advance with something like anime - though obviously in Dandadan's case, the first three episodes are in a finished enough state to be screened, so that's likely why the leaks have been able to take place. Dandadan isn't the only anime to receive leaks though, as the newly announced Ranma 1/2 remake from Jujutsu Kaisen animation studio Mappa has also had its first, third, and fourth episodes leaked online. Both series are planned to stream on Netflix, though that isn't necessarily the reason as to why they have been leaked, as the anime movie Gekijōban Mononoke: Karakasa has also been posted online.
