The F1 Arcade is a simulator. Just... a simpler one. | Photo: David Pierce / The Verge Confidence was my first mistake. As I plopped down in one of the 83 racing simulators in the new F1 Arcade location in Washington, DC, I told the company’s CEO, Adam Breeden, that I’d raced plenty of times before. I picked Semi-Pro difficulty, even as Breeden told me he recommends most first-time arcade visitors pick something simpler. I adjusted the Vesaro simulator, started the race, and caused a six-car pileup on the race’s very first corner. Luckily for me, the F1 Arcade is designed more for fun than fidelity, so my race wasn’t over. It ended four minutes later, in *****-last place, as the onscreen timer mercifully ticked to zero. On a normal day at the arcade, this would signal it’s time for someone else to race. For me, sitting at... Continue reading… View the full article

Super Mario Party Jamboree has a host of modes, and most of them can be played online with up to eight players in certain ones, like Koopathalon. While you can start a party and play with random players, this is a Mario Party game. And what’s a Mario Party game without your actual friends? You can create lobbies to play with your friends in the multitude of modes around the world as long as you complete specific actions first. It’s pretty straightforward once you know what you’re doing, but Nintendo does a painful job of teaching players what to do to set up their first match. View the full article
Silent Hill 2 has recently been remade, but that doesn't mean that the story of James and the characters he encounters in Silent Hill has to end there again. Sure, the original game was released in 2001, and the remake doesn't change the core story beats, although it does add two additional endings that weren't part of the original, but that doesn't mean that a sequel is completely out of the question. In fact, a sequel to Silent Hill 2 could be exactly what Konami needs to revitalize the series. View the full article

Image: Supergiant Games The first major update for Hades II, which is still in early access, is out now, adding things like a new region, the game’s sixth and final *******, new pets, native support for Macs with M1 chips, and more. The big feature looks to be the new region. You might be able to guess what that region is based on the update’s title — “The Olympic Update” — but if you haven’t played the game yet, I’m not going to say anything else. I’m looking forward to exploring it as soon as I can and trying to take down the boss, who seems to be featured in the update’s release trailer. (I’ll probably try to get there with the new *******, “Xinth, the ****** Coat.”) There are a bunch of other updates, too. Supergiant has added two animal familiars to the game:... Archetype Entertainment and Blur Studio's space RPG Exodus was announced back in December, and was broadly notable for a couple of things: 1) Matthew McConaughey plays a character, and 2) the game's story is woven around time dilation during faster than light travel, with star-hopping adventurers prosecuting a ****** against evil Celestials over hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. Now, it is notable for three things, the third thing being a cosmic blubber-spire of gurning faces who want to eat your ship and soul. Say hello to the Mara Yama, the ickiest Celestial faction so far. Here's a trailer, in which McConaughey does that thing where he lingers on the sibilants and makes you want to lean in and vigorously mess up his hair. Read more View the full article

Survival games love forests. There's something about hiding between the trees, hunting for supplies, and setting up your base amid lush wildlife that the genre can't step away from. Between Don't Starve, DayZ, Rust, and The Forest (naturally), the titans of survival love a good thicket. Permafrost is different. Rather than the woodland, you're fighting for your life amid the frozen ruins of what were once sprawling cities. Make sure you've wrapped up warm, because the Steam Next Fest demo is available now. The existence of Knights In Tight Spaces, sequel to Fights In Tight Spaces, implies the existence of an unknown quantity or perhaps, an infinity of follow-up games that rhyme with both of those.
