  1. With the latest twist in Helldivers 2's conflict seeing the Illuminate push players towards battling on Super Earth itself, developer Arrowhead has revealed that it's making an important change to how the Galactic War - more specifically planet liberation - works. 2. We've seen it all end in tears before. A beloved studio makes a name for itself creating revered, narrative-driven, single-player action games, and then puts out an investor-satisfying multiplayer game that fails to deliver. But with FBC Firebreak, Remedy Entertainment's co-op FPS set within the besieged walls of Control's Oldest House, things have felt different from the very start. A focus on eccentricity, scalable difficulties and session lengths, and an anti-live service approach positions it as a refreshing multiplayer experience. But is it just as fresh to play? After getting around three hours of hands-on time with FBC Firebreak at Remedy's home base in Finland, I'm pleased to say that while it doesn't do much to revolutionize the co-op shooter gameplay loop, it's an absolute hoot. 3. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has many memorable characters, but few might inspire as much joy as Esquie, the game's lovable giant pal who might as well be a mascot character. The studio is warning against issues with fake merch sales around him, but also teasing an official plush Esquie that's in the works. In a post on X/Twitter from the official Expedition 33 account, Sandfall Interactive said it has seen a number of "suspicious" websites pop up selling Esquie plushies. "To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed," the studio said. "Many of them are using AI-generated artwork to advertise, and we strongly recommend against purchasing from these sources. They could be scams." To balance out the wheee with the whooo though, as Esquie might say, Sandfall confirms it is looking into making official Esquie plushies, and wants to get them out as soon as it can. "In the meantime, please be patient — and don’t get scammed!" the studio said. Those who have played the game probably get why an Esquie plushie might be in high demand. If you haven't gone on Expedition 33 yet, Esquie is a giant helper you meet in Act 1 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 who becomes both a traveling companion and overworld travel method. He's got the same vibe as Big Hero 6's Baymax. With that in mind, it's easy to see how an Esquie plush might garner some interest, so it's good to know Sandfall is working on an official solution. A cursory search on Google pulled up both an unofficial site, and a few threads asking about Esquie plush peddlers. If you want the real thing from Sandfall and Kepler, you'll have to wait a bit. No news on whether the real-life plushie will also be filled with wine, though. Last week, Sandfall Interactive released patch 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, addressing some balance tweaks around Maelle's Stendhal ability. French President Emmanuel Macron also recently praised the game, calling its developers a "shining example of French audacity and creativity." Eric is a freelance writer for IGN. 4. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydrawill be releasing a bit later than expected, but on the bright side, the delay offers a good opportunity for the game to align with an iconic milestone for Captain America. As the name implies, Marvel 1943 focuses on a WW2 setting, so it comes as no surprise that the upcoming game features Captain America in a starring role. Joined by Azzuri, the era-appropriate king and ****** Panther of Wakanda, Steve's fight against Hydra takes place in Nazi-occupied Paris. View the full article

  6. Morrowind might be 23 years old, but that's not stopping its cult coterie of modders and whizzkids from updating it. One thankful addition that makes a lot of this possible are script extenders, which themselves open whole new avenues of scripting language, with which people can't seem to stop working marvels... 7. Hideo Kojima is his own Peter Molydeux, in that he's forever out there pitching Kojima-like ideas for games he might make. Hideo Jokima? On a recent episode of his Japanese radio show, KOJI10, the designer of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding pitched a few ideas he had for games based around time. The best of the bunch: a game in which your character gradually forgets information if players take too long a break from playing. Read more View the full article
  8. Oblivion Remastered lit a fire under The Elder Scrolls community, igniting age-old debates (if you count 2006 as 'age-old'), while also ushering newcomers down some of the series' more bizarre rabbit holes. What's more, it enticed new and veteran fans alike to revisit the classics. Just look at Morrowind, which came a Netch's breadth away from beating a 12-year-old record thanks to Virtuos' revamped take on Cyrodiil. View the full article

  11. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is very much in fashion right now; Sandfall's creation is at once a love letter to some of gaming's best JRPGs, and a powerful step forward for the genre in its own right. It's won our hearts at PCGamesN with its stunning world and cast of instantly likable characters, so of course the promise of official merchandise for them has perked my ears up. In a new post, Sandfall teases that it's currently looking into creating an Esquie plushie, as it warns of potential scams from "suspicious websites." Read the rest of the story... 12. Arrowhead Studios CEO Shams Jorjani said a crossover between Helldivers 2 and Dead Space isn't impossible, saying he wants to "get in touch" with EA. This message was shared on the Helldivers 2 Discord after a user asked if the team at Arrowhead had considered collaborating with the Dead Space franchise. While the tone of each game is certainly different, both Dead Space and Helldivers take place in space and offer similar aesthetics, making this hypothetical crossover easy to see happening down the line. 16. Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 8 was the game's last big update, but it's still getting handly little hotfixes to iron out bugs and issues. The latest, hotfix 31, takes care of plenty of stuff like that, including a pretty wacky-sounding visual glitch, but I do have to take issue with one of its tweaks to photo mode. 17. Surreal first-person medical sim Pathologic 3 will be different from its plague-ridden predecessor in a lot of ways. In Pathologic 2 you played a roaming surgeon rooting around in bins for sustenance, and this time you play as the Bachelor, a well-fed doctor who diagnoses patients by inspecting their bodies and investigating their homes for signs of disease. But one of the biggest changes regards the open world. You won't freely explore the remote steppe town this time, but instead dander through isolated pockets, with lots of loading screens, map plotting, and fast travel. That's made a few fans grumpy, but developers Ice-Pick Lodge are sticking to their plans, as they've stated in a development update.
