  1. After several major leaks and heavy speculation regarding one of the franchise's most beloved characters returning to Resident Evil Requiem, The Game Awards finally unveiled what we've all been waiting for. Despite several discouraging statements from Capcom about the prospect, Leon is finally making his return in Resident Evil Requiem, and the reaction to the news has been understandably huge. 4. The Game Awards ended on an odd note last night. Instead of a big, exclamation-point 'one more thing!'—the prophesied return of Gabe Newell, striding onto center stage with three fingers held high—host Geoff Keighley closed the show with a reveal of a brand new game from an unknown studio: A PvP raid shooter called Highguard... 5. The Game Awards has come and gone for another year of celebrations and announcements, and the verdict about the 2025 edition of Geoff Keighley's yearly showcase has come in. In a poll on Twitter/X posted just minutes after the show went off the air, The Game Awards creator and host asked for viewers to give this year's show a letter grade, and the results are not what you'd like to see. Screenshot by Destructoid 37.3 percent of voters said the show deserved a D or below rating, with 21.5 percent saying it was a C. All told, that's 58.8 percent of voters who chose the bottom two options in the poll. The second-biggest vote, at 25.2 percent, was for a B, and 16 percent gave this year an A. Personally, I thought this year's show was par for the course. Way too many ads for anime gacha games (as usual), some cool announcements (the Resident Evil Requiem trailer, Divinity reveal, Mega Man announcement, and Exodus trailer were highlights for me), random celebrity appearances (the shrieking Street Fighter movie cast moment was a low-point), and not enough emphasis on awards. I know there's a time crunch, but the rapid-fire reveals of award winners feels rather disrespectful if that's what we're gathering for in the first place. I know most viewers are tuning in to see some big surprises (this year's final reveal drop being a new free-to-play hero shooter was a head-scratcher), but if it truly is The Game Awards, then please let the developers who win these awards get their moment in the spotlight. This has all been discussed before, though. This is the 12th iteration of the show, and it seems like it's gotten its formula down at this point. And honestly, I don't envy the position Keighley is in every year trying to put the show together. It lasts three and a half hours and has to fit in multiple awards, and a whole lot of game reveals and advertisements that pay for it all to happen (it's reportedly up to $1 million for a 3-minute ad this year) and I'm sure it's tough to manage. What did you think of the show this year? Let us know in the comments below, and as always, keep it civil and classy. 7. If you have already completed downloading the latest update for Path of Exile 2 and logging in to try the Druid class, chances are that you have been hit with a ****** instead. The ****** appears on the home screen, which earlier had a countdown timer for the Druids update. The countdown has now expired, but it will take some time before you can enter and enjoy the new content. The exact time will depend on the ******, so it's essential to understand how it works and what you should do. Path of Exile 2 'You're in a ******' message explained The ****** you see in the screenshot below (and possibly in front of your screen) has been placed since the servers of Path of Exile 2 are still in maintenance. Completing the update lets you jump in instantly once the servers come back online. If you're in a ******, make sure not to exit it by chance. There's already a massive resurgence in player count on Steam, and the game is also available on consoles. Chances are that console players will also be attempting to start playing at the same time. GGG has implemented such login queues in the past to prevent the servers from crashing after a major update. Screenshot by Destructoid Your best option is to wait. I joined in almost immediately after the countdown expired, and there are still over 25,000 players in front of me. It will be interesting to find out how quickly the ****** gets over (it will depend on how many players are allowed to sign in at the same time). In the meantime, you can check out this detailed guide about the new Druid class and all its abilities. We are yet to realize the full potential of this class, but most of the abilities have already been disclosed by GGG. I have no doubts that the Druid class could be the hottest pick among all players for the new league and economy. 8. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is the upcoming spiritual successor to some of the best RPGs of all time, and thankfully spearheaded by the same lead dev. Casey Hudson, known for his work on KOTOR and Mass Effect, is leading the charge with FOTOR, and aims to keep player freedom at its center. Speaking today for the official Star Wars website, Hudson said FOTOR is "equally ambitious" as KOTOR, which he said strove to be the "definitive Star Wars experience." "Fate of the Old Republic represents an opportunity to explore a contemporary vision of a definitive Star Wars experience," he said, adding that the team is "using state-of-the-art technology and game design, and an all-new story crafted specifically to deliver on the combination of player agency and immersion in Star Wars that was at the heart of KOTOR." [Hidden Content] Hudson pointed out that player agency and freedom are crucial to this new experience, much as they were in KOTOR way back when. "Our goal is developing the kind of games I love making: emotionally powerful, cinematic adventures driven by player agency, narrative depth, and immersive world-building," he said. Fate of the Old Republic is still very early in development, with the studio behind it forming just this year. This would imply we won't be seeing the game on shelves before 2030 or thereabouts, so there's plenty of time for the studio to expand on these initial ideas and, hopefully, provide us with an experience that is player-focused and player-driven, and not prescriptive. Baldur's Gate 3 and other recent RPGs really set in stone the old-new tenets of role-playing games, all of which revolve around replayability, variation, and experiential breadth, with the entire narrative unfolding at the behest of the player, so the bar is now quite high. The C.A.M.P. Revamp Community contest in Fallout 76has already gone through two rounds of winners, but players still have an opportunity to participate during the month of December. Gamers looking to make the most of their entry may want to familiarize themselves with the title's updated building tools, as players now have a lot more freedom when creating their bases. 10. Dungeons & Dragonshas unveiled its next big video game, but I'm not convinced that this will be able to repeat Baldur's Gate 3's magic trick. On one hand, I'm glad that D&D isn't trying to rush out a direct Baldur's Gate 3 successor, and the newly revealed Warlock being something completely different might be a good thing. On the other hand, the game's central ambition might be setting itself up for failure. View the full article
  11. The Game Awards gave us a new trailer for The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin with a look at exploration and co-op gameplay, as well as a possible hint at the return of a fan-favorite character. For those who aren’t already aware, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is an open-world action RPG that takes place in Britannia from the world of The Seven Deadly Sins manga and anime. It stars Tristan, prince of Liones, in a multiverse narrative that tells its own original story. Tristan finds a pendant called the Book of Stars that has the power to connect timelines but also awakens a new darkness that must be defeated. It being a new story involving alternate timelines means it can feature just about any character or enemy from the manga and anime series. And we got a taste of that in this trailer, which included a brief tease of Escanor, the beloved member of the titular Seven Deadly Sins. Fans of the series know all about him and what happens to him, but the latest trailer includes a brief glimpse of his distinctive Lion Sin of Pride tattoo, possibly hinting that he’s back to show off his daylight-powered strength. While Escanor is the most notable character in the trailer, he’s far from the only familiar face. We see several well-known characters — including Meliodas, Elizabeth, and Diane (more on her in a minute) — fighting alongside a player-controlled party against three massive bosses, giving us our most detailed look yet at the size and scope of multiplayer battles. We’ve known for a while that you can have up to four characters on your team at a time and can switch between them on the fly with one button press. But in the trailer’s battle against the Ancient Dragon, you can tell from the UI that that’s still the case even while the player is joined by friends in co-op. So even when fighting multiplayer battles, you’ll still be able to swap between your full team. And speaking of the UI, you can also see that each character has an elemental-aspected ultimate ability that lights up when it’s available to use, even if that character isn’t currently on the field, helping you plan your strategy and when to switch characters. We also get a look at a multiplayer battle against a boss named Warden Orgot. And in the cases of both the warden and dragon, you can get a sense of the power and range of some of their abilities. Red zones show where an AoE attack will land, and some of those zones take up a massive amount of space, so you’re clearly going to have to stay on your toes during these chaotic battles. The final boss battle featured in the trailer was only shown briefly, but it’s still notable because of who it is: a giant version of Diane. And that fight is accompanied by quest text that says “Episode 8: Diane on a Rampage.” So … what exactly is going on there? I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out. The Ancient Dragon, Warden Orgot, and Giant Diane are all new bosses that weren’t featured in the game’s recent closed beta test, so even people who got to play the game already have something to get excited about. The rest of the trailer showed that fighting giant bosses isn’t the only thing you can do with your friends. We got a glimpse of co-op exploration, both in a dungeon and in the open world, which included seeing everyone in the party riding flying mounts through the air together. So the implication is you’ll have the freedom to travel with your friends throughout the world. The new trailer is just the latest to be featured at some of gaming’s biggest events this year. There have been trailers or playable builds at Summer Game Fest in June, gamescom in August, Tokyo Game Show in September, G-STAR 2025 in November, and now The Game Awards. It’s all been building up momentum toward the worldwide January 28, 2026 release date on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is free-to-play with cross-play across all platforms, and you can pre-register right now on mobile or by using your email. The heroes in your party will be recruited using gacha mechanics, but if you pre-register through Google Play or the App Store you’ll be guaranteed recruitment of Tioreh, who is new to the series. You’ll also get draw tickets, hero upgrade materials, and healing dishes, which will help give you a head start at the beginning of the game. If you use your e-mail to pre-register on the official website, you’ll get the Skyborne Gale Duel Swords weapon, weapon upgrade materials, and gold. Console and PC players can also wishlist the game on PS5 or Steam now. To keep up with the latest news and updates, you can follow the game on its official Discord, Twitter, and YouTube channels. 12. Here’s some good news for RPG fans. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the surprise blockbuster that swept The Game Awards this year has a new physical edition that is still available for PS5. It’s called the Mirror Edition, and it comes with some new physical goodies. It’s only available at Amazon (see it here), with a price tag of $59.99 and has already sold out for Xbox. Read on for a rundown of everything you get with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Mirror Edition while its still avaialable. Where to Buy Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Mirror Edition This is the only version of the new Mirror Edition. Alternatively, you can buy a physical version of the standard edition (see it at Amazon). That edition is available now and has an MSRP of $49.99. Either one of these would make for an excellent gift for gamers this year. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Mirror Edition Contents In addition to the game on disc, the Mirror Edition also includes the following items: Collectible Cards - includes 3 of 10 possible cardsExclusive steelbook - featuring Verso and AliciaTuckbox Regarding the collectible cards, there are 10 available, but you get three random cards included with your copy. The only three cards shown on Amazon’s listing page feature Gustave, Maelle, and Lune. What we said in our review RPG expert and critic Michael Higham reviewed the game for us during its initial release and had overwhelmingly positive things to say about it in his 9/10 review: In so many ways, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reminded me of numerous classic and contemporary RPGs I love, but developer Sandfall truly understood why those games are special and made the pieces it borrowed its own. The creative turn-based combat system is brilliant, keeping me engaged while impressive visual flourishes bring it all together. The story can be a touch messy or melodramatic at times, but there’s an earnestness to how it frames mortality, grief, and the small moments of joy we find. It doesn’t shy away from the different, destructive ways we may handle loss, either – all of which is delivered through fantastic performances from an A-list cast that give its story the heart it needs to really hit. The contrast between its artistic sensibilities and old-school RPG design philosophy shows a clarity of vision, as if it was scoped just right to focus on the things that matter most, making it a true modern throwback. And so, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stands strong alongside its inspirations, and I hope that it too can be an inspiration for those who come after. 15. Warframe brought another batch of romanceable Protoframes in The Old Peace, including Sister Marie Leroux—Wisp's Protoframe. The nun can become your lover if you play your cards right on KIM. Dating Marie (and any of the ******'s Triad) plays out differently than your romantic dalliances with the Hex. There's no gifting or bounties, so it's all about how you answer her. There's one solace: even if you do mess up, there's a way to get back with her—though deals with the ****** often come with a price... Here's our guide to romancing Marie in Warframe. You can go to the Kimulacrum for the play-by-play, including answers for every conversation, but we have some general tips below based on the information there and in our experience. Marie romance guide in Warframe You can visit Marie in Le Cathédrale inside the Sanctum Anatomica. Screenshot by Destructoid Before you begin, keep in mind Marie has a special fondness for Albrecht Entrati (or Cardinal Dimanche, as she calls him). He pretended to be a man of the cloth, offering her a helping hand and treating her like a person when few did. She's extremely grateful for that, making her far more likely to idolize Albrecht than to vilify him as other Protoframes do. This may not be forever, since your dialogue choices are bound to at least break down those walls a bit, but that's good information to have when starting out. Don't side with Entrati just to get on the Sister's good side, though, since that will do far more harm than good. Yes, praising Entrati is the path of least resistance with her, but it's not mandatory if you'd like to romance Marie. In fact, the game will often throw you into conversations with conflicting points of view, which makes them quite interesting. It's not hard to think of people (and animals!) that have reasons to hate Albrecht, especially when a handful of them are just on the other side of the door. Marie has a tragic backstory of her own, and she can understand the plight of the broken. While we won't go into spoilers here, go into KIM conversations knowing she had quite a rough upbringing, but was saved by the Sisterhood and, later on, by Entrati. She believes everyone can be redeemed—even the ****** of Tau—and approaching conversations with that principle in mind builds up rapport more quickly. Because of that, you don't need to have the same faith as her (or any at all), though your choices in conversation naturally open up new dialogue options as you get to know her more. When it comes to romance, Drifter can be quite direct with Marie, and there are plenty of opportunities to show your interest in her. One is as early as level two, when the Sister asks if the Drifter has a specific creed, and you can reply with "what if I said I was more interested in you, instead? Would that be blasphemous?" Smooth, Drifter. You should be fine as long as you do it on the right occasions and without overdoing it. Surprisingly, she'll be okay if you ask her to hunt you down, but don't ask her how she'd make it up to you in the same conversation. How to raise Chemistry with Marie in Warframe JPEGs that are actually MP3s. Image via Paulina Roberts Unlike the Protoframes from 1999, you can't do bounties or give gifts to fast-track your progress with romancing Marie. Instead, you must gain Chemistry by answering the right prompts in conversations. Digital Extremes "carefully balanced the Chemistry output to ensure players can rank up with the conversations available to them," but the studio recommends enabling the Play All Kim Conversations setting. As usual, Marie has six ranks: Neutral, Friendly, Liked, Trusted, Close, and Best Friend/Lover. Lover appears if you date her (which is the goal here), but anyone with a platonic connection to you becomes Best Friends instead. Can you date more than one Protoframe in Warframe? If you want to date Marie and Eleanor, you have a type. Screenshot by Destructoid Yes, The Old Peace lets you date one member of the Hex and one of the Protoframes in La Cathédrale. You need to have a KIM conversation with both your paramours to get their consent. There's another caveat: you can't date more than one person from the Hex, since, as they're quick to point out, it would make things way too awkward. Does Marie move in with you when you romance her? No changes to the backroom. Screenshot by Destructoid Marie, like the rest of the ******'s Triad, stays inside La Cathédrale and does not move into the Backrooms with you when romanced. She will, however, send you weekly Captura dates, a new addition with The Old Peace. If you've had that conversation with your other paramours, they may also bring up how it's impossible to meet your romantic partners from the ******'s Triad, even though they'd love the chance to do so. 16. Bethesda really dropped the ball with Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch 2. The company released the Anniversary Edition on Tuesday, and it was plagued with bugs and performance issues that players weren't expecting from a 2011 game launched on a 2025 console. While the original Nintendo Switch had outdated hardware that caused many third-party game ports to run poorly, like Hogwarts Legacy and Ark: Survival Evolved, that shouldn't be the case on the Switch 2. The new console can run Cyberpunk: 2077 at 40 frames per second and Red Dead Redemption at a stable 60, so running Skyrim shouldn't be an issue. That's why players having trouble with the game are blaming Bethesda, not Nintendo, for the rough Anniversary Edition launch. Skyrim's performance on Nintendo Switch 2 is awfulhttps://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/1piegpl/input_delay_on_skyrim_switch_2_edition_is_terrible/ Skyrim players faced all kinds of issues when running the game on the Switch 2. One fan reported on Reddit that they had up to 250 ms of input delay in handheld mode. Another player confirmed the massive delay and added that they can't run the game past 30 fps. Ironically, those who had in-game issues were the lucky ones. Others who had Skyrim's Switch 1 physical edition had to perform some complicated game library management just to run the Switch 2 upgrade. That upgrade is free for those who already own the Switch 1 edition, but these players were being asked to pay for the upgrade when trying to install it. They eventually found a fix that involved removing their cartridge and deleting all game files to reinstall Skyrim and be able to unlock the Switch 2 upgrade. Players believe Bethesda will mess up Fallout 4's release on the Switch 2 Since most Skyrim issues on the Switch 2 point to problems on Bethesda's end, fans are worried that the company's next Switch 2 release, Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, will be just as plagued with bugs. This Fallout 4 edition was released in November 2025 on PC. It brought crashes and glitches along with the upgrades. Players who could previously run the standard Fallout 4 version were unable to open the game, or use mods that used to be compatible. Many other fans who installed the new Creations Bundle, a pack of 150 premium mods included in the upgrade, also had their games broken. It was so bad that this pack still has a mere 20 percent positive reviews on Steam a month later. [Hidden Content] Considering the Fallout 4 version set to release on the Switch is exactly the buggy Anniversary Edition with the broken Creation Bundle, Switch 2 players think the Skyrim release is another reason to believe Fallout 4 will see a rough launch on Nintendo's new console. And once again, because of Bethesda. The post Skyrim is so rough on Nintendo Switch 2 that fans are worried the next big port might be just as terrible appeared first on Destructoid. 17. The Druid is all set to be the latest class to be added to Path of Exile 2, and it could become the strongest choice, all thanks to its abilities.
