Did you see that Divinity reveal at The Game Awards and think, hey, I really should get around to playing Divinity: Original Sin 2? Great news, Larian just made it a much nicer experience on modern consoles with a free upgrade for PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. This was announced in a new trailer, which highlights the differences in the new versions. It's nothing too crazy - just better resolution and framerate. But it's free if you own the game already on any of the previous platforms (PS4, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox One) and it will hopefully bring the eight-year-old game up to par with current technology on consoles. If you don't own the game already anywhere, now's probably a good time to grab it. At the time of this writing, it's on ***** in a few places. It's 50% off if you buy the regular NIntendo Switch edition down to $25, and then you get the free upgrade on Switch 2. On Xbox, it's down to $17.49. If you own the game on PC, don't worry, as you don't need an upgrade. You're already set with a great version of the game. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is fantastic and well-worth checking out if you haven't yet. We gave the most recent Definitive Edition in 2018 at 9.6/10, saying it's "a new way to play one of the absolute best RPGs in years. And whether you’re diving back in on PC, or booting it up on the console for the first time, it’s flexibility, personality, and charm make for an amazing adventure." It also may be worth checking out before the new Divinity comes out, as Larian has said that players of Original Sin 1 and 2 might "be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity." ARC Raiders, the popular scavenging and extraction game from Embark Studios, is launching its Cold Snap update on Tuesday. As if it was too easy to survive in the game already. While Techland has a storied, 25-year history making all manner of games, the last decade has been defined by Dying Light. With the release of Dying Light The Beast in September, it's now three successful entries deep into one of the best zombie games series around, but its attempts to diversify took a hit earlier in the year when it canceled two upcoming projects mid-development. However, Techland didn't lay any employees off, instead moving them to other teams and stating it still had "a number of games in [its] pipeline." Now, we may potentially be seeing early signs of one of them, as a job posting on the developer's website mentions "a new online experience in the Dying Light franchise." Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics unveiled trailers for two Tomb Raider adventure games at The Game Awards last Thursday. And we heard more details on the games in a press briefing on Friday from the developers at Crystal Dynamics: Scott Amos, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics, and Will Kerslake, game director at Crystal Dynamics. .memberful-global-teaser-content p:last-child{ -webkit-mask-image: linear-gradient(180deg, #000 0%, transparent); mask-image: linear-gradient(180deg, #000 0%, transparent); } Read This Article Free Get instant access by joining the GB MAX Access tier — it’s free to sign up and unlock premium content.Join Now to Start ReadingAlready a member? Legends and icons never die. Lara Croft is both of these things, and so she lives on in the form of two new games coming over the next few years. The return of Lara and Tomb Raider at The Game Awards this past week was one of the show's highlights, especially considering that Amazon Games Studios revealed these multiple games at once: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis in 2026 and Tomb Raider: Catalyst coming in 2027. Image via Crystal Dynamics I followed up on the announcements with a presentation from Crystal Dynamics devs the day after The Game Awards, and while they couldn't reveal too much, it's clear that this is the start of a new era for the franchise and its heroine that the studio is excited about. A lasting legacy lives on Image via Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is coming out sometime next year, and Crystal Dynamics is calling it a "reimagining" of the 1996 PS1 game that started it all. It's being developed in tandem with another studio, Flying Wild Hog (Throne and Liberty, Lost Ark), and the devs would not use the term "remake" when describing it. This seems to mean that it won't be a one-to-one recreation similar to something like the recent Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (the game's website teases "new surprises that honor the spirit of the original"), but a way refresh the first game for a new age of gameplay and visuals. It is, though, a game fully built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. "We want to honor the legacy of the original game by modernizing it with a gameplay experience, with the fidelity that's now possible in Unreal 5," game director Will Kerslake said. "Like 30 years of technology has happened since 1996. That's not an easy thing to do, but ultimately our goal there is you want it to feel like it felt when you played it the first time, but play like a modern game. So, there's vital things that we have to keep the same: that confident, capable Lara Croft, the globetrotting adventurer, the cool, strategic puzzle-solving within that space. But, we know that we need to completely adjust 'how does this work' when you're interacting with the actual controller through combat and through traversal." Kerslake was adamant about recreating the memories and moments of the original for new players, citing the "different gaming realities" of 1996 vs. 2026, allowing Crystal Dynamics to "reimagine the feel, but for a modern play." "For us, it's a love letter by fans, all of us [at Crystal Dynamics], for fans, which is everything that we do, and that's who we do it for," Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos said of Legacy of Atlantis. "We knew the [Tomb Raider] 30th anniversary was coming up and we wanted to do something special to both celebrate that moment but still pay honor to all of the core designs, regional DNA, and intent from this amazing title that launched the franchise." Image via Crystal Dynamics With the reimagining of a classic, Amos said that there's some obvious pressure that comes with that, but at this point, it's old territory for Crystal Dynamics after several remasters in recent years and a whole reboot trilogy a decade ago. "We've experienced some of this [pressure] at Crystal before, certainly, looking back at our history of what we've done with Tomb Raider at different times," Amos said. "Even today, I think we put the most pressure on ourselves because we know as fans what we want. Everything we do is for the fans, so we listen very intently to the audiences and then say 'how do we take what we've learned, what we're doing ourselves, and how do we push that to that next step'? There is a tremendous pressure to be both respectful but also keeping that iconic core that has made this character enduring for so long." For what it's worth, from what I gathered from the discussion, Legacy of Atlantis is giving me the vibes of what the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 4 were aiming to do, where they stayed true to the original titles in many ways but improved upon them by tweaking gameplay and adding some changes to modernize the experience for current gaming times. This makes sense, considering 2007's Tomb Raider: Anniversary was more of a direct remake of the original. As of now, it's unclear how these modern changes will translate, and it's too early to say if this game will match the quality of Capcom's efforts, for example, but it seems as though Legacy of Atlantis is aiming to capture that same sort of essence. "I'm just getting started" Lara in Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Image via Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider: Catalyst, meanwhile, is still a long way off and the devs did not have much detailed info to give away yet, but it's the latest foray for Croft who Kerslake described as a "top of her game, experienced" adventurer compared to in Legacy of Atlantis, which is placed at the beginning of her career and after the reboot trilogy prequels of the 2010s, although it's unclear if everything is fully unified just yet. The devs did confirm that Catalyst is a "brand new adventure" that's set after the events of 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld, continuing on that specific PS3/Xbox 360 generation Legend trilogy nearly 20 years later once it's out in 2027. And that explains why Lara's appearance differs between this title and Legacy of Atlantis, the latter of which takes place many years earlier, which means she's just aged. One thing we do know for sure about Catalyst is that it's set in northern India, which Kerslake said is "a land that is rich in ancient history and myths to explore," and "a region that offers vast and varied landscapes that are begging to be explored." He added that it will be explained how the setting connects "narratively and story-wise" to the rest of the games, but that discussion is still far in the future for now. The team on hand was very hush on many major specifics about gameplay or most other details, but Kerslake mentioned that "there are lots of clues" in the teaser trailer for the game, including her new grappling hook item and how Croft says "I'm just getting started," meaning that Catalyst is probably the first entry in another new trilogy for Lara. [Hidden Content] "If you poke at that trailer, there's a lot of cool stuff that is in the game," Kerslake teased. Arc Raiders developer Embark Studios has fully detailed the game’s Cold Snap update and its new cold-weather survival mechanics. The update, out December 16, adds the new Cold Snap map condition, which is a winter variant across Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport, and The Blue Gate maps. Cold Snap adds cold-weather survival mechanics fueled by snowstorms across Speranza. Snowfall reduces visibility, lakes freeze over, and the open surface becomes even more dangerous. Exposure to extreme cold causes frostbite, thus encouraging new strategies around healing items, loadouts, and indoor shelter. Arc Raiders Cold Snap gameplay changes, from Embark Studios:Environmental Hazard: Cold, harsh weather introduces new risks for raiders who remain outdoors too long. Players must watch out for frostbite, a creeping condition that slowly drains their health bar. Shelter Mechanics: To prevent frostbite, raiders will need to adapt their tactics as the cold gradually seeps into their bones. Raiders must rethink their loadouts, ensuring they can heal themselves or their teammates and plan their extractions with care, finding shelter if needed.Visual Overhaul: Frost buildup, frozen lakes, snow accumulation and more across Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport and The Blue Gate maps. Elsewhere, unique loot and rewards are available through the Flickering Flames event and Candleberry Banquet project. Flickering Flames Event: An act of endurance and patience that tests Raiders’ survival skills during the Cold Snap. Raiders can unlock rewards across 25 levels, including new gear, customizations elements and Raider Tokens by earning Merits, which are automatically gained from XP in rounds. To activate the event, Raiders must have played five rounds of the game. Candleberry Banquet Project: A new project that brings Raiders together to feel the fragile warmth that shines through the frigid cold. Raiders can earn rewards by scavenging unique items topside and collecting Candleberries. It features five stages, each revealing a new scene on the banquet table. Completing stages grants rewards such as cosmetic items, Raider Tokens and Merits, with Merits contributing progress in the Flickering Flames event. Starting December 26, the Goalie Raider deck will be included in the base game. The new deck includes new items and feats for players to complete, offering rewards such as Raider tokens, cosmetic items and more. These include a hockey-inspired Raider outfit in several color variants, along with a hockey stick Raider tool. And finally, the Expedition Project Raider Reset lets players restart their journey with certain buffs, advantages, and rewards. The Expedition Project will provide Raiders with an opportunity to undergo a reset, bringing a new raider and a new story for the player. This optional reset is unlocked by collecting key materials to build a Caravan for the existing Raider then signing up for the departure during the Expedition window. By departing, players will reset their character progress for a new Arc Raiders journey with exclusive buffs, advantages and rewards that carry over. In a blog post, Embark explained why it’s doing the seasonal reset. “Progression wipes are a notoriously difficult thing to balance in online multiplayer games — we get that,” the developer said. “Mandatory global wipes have some obvious benefits: heavily invested players get to re-experience the initial grind once again and, for a time, the playing field is levelled. The optional Expedition Project is our solution to some of the problems that inevitably arise with mandatory wipes — specifically, by respecting your time investment in the game. We want to offer you the choice: “Not completed as much as you’d like? Keep on raiding, building, and growing. Ready for a new challenge and to grind once again? Depart on the Expedition, and receive buffs, rewards, and bragging rights.” Arc Raiders Cold Snap update release times: Embark Studios launches Cold Snap on Tuesday, December 16, at 10.30am CET / 9.30am *** time / 1.30am PT / 4.30am ET. Cold Snap includes limited-time events and elements running from Tuesday, December 16 until Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 10.30am CET / 9.30am *** time / 1.30am PT / 4.30am ET. Cold Snap is the last update listed as part of Arc Raiders' 2025 content roadmap, and Embark has yet to outline what's coming in 2026. Arc Raiders sold over 4 million copies worldwide within two weeks of launch, cementing its commercial success. Nexon also revealed that the extraction shooter had reached a huge concurrent count of 700,000 players across all platforms. It's done so well it crossed over into the world of South Park with a surprise appearance that was put together in just a few days. Cementing its success, Arc Raiders won Best Multiplayer at last week’s The Game Awards. IGN's Arc Raiders review, returned a 9/10. We said: "With polished gunplay and an irresistible grind, Arc Raiders sets a new standard for extraction shooters."
