  3. Only one game can survive this battle royale of the battle royale genre itself. Well, not really. There's a plethora of fun BR games out there to play, and EA is set to join into the fray with a Battlefield 6 battle royale mode some time soon. BF6 launched to big player numbers on Oct. 10, 2025, and its free-to-play BR component is not far behind, sure to bring in even more players. But when can we play it?! Here's what we know of when to expect BF6's battle royale mode to become widely available. Table of contentsBattlefield 6 battle royale release dateBattlefield 6 battle royale detailsBattlefield 6 battle royale release date Screenshot by Destructoid Battlefield 6's battle royale mode does not currently have an official release date, but there was some speculation that it could become widely available as part of season one of BF6 on Oct. 28, 2025. This does not seem likely, though, since EA has detailed season one's roadmap and BR was not a part of it. If this does not happen, it's more likely that BF6 BR will drop alongside season two some time in early 2026. The mode is currently in testing as part of Battlefield Labs, so there's no real rush to launch the free-to-play mode until it's ready to go. "Testing this new mode and all of its features with the community is the true power of Battlefield Labs," EA said of BF6 BR on Sept. 10. "We are excited to hear about players’ experiences as they explore the ins and outs of this Battle Royale done the Battlefield way. We look forward to sharing more details after the testing is complete and we’ve reviewed the feedback from players." Stay tuned for an official announcement on when BF6 BR will launch. For now, it's currently being tested by players who have been invited for the process. Battlefield 6 battle royale details Image via EA Here are some details on what's currently being tested in BF6 BR, straight from EA: Map: Battlefield is no stranger to epic maps, and this all-new map has been built for the Battle Royale experience. It features a diverse array of tactical Points of Interest, each with distinct layouts and themes that offer unique gameplay opportunities.Vehicles: Players can find common transport vehicles around the map and even unlock powerful armored vehicles to turn the tide of battle. The intent is to offer more ways for players to traverse the map early on in a match and to create interesting combined arms action in the process.Tactical Destruction: Destruction will be everywhere in this mode. From creating pathways through walls to toppling buildings, we look forward to seeing players’ ingenuity with destruction and how they use it to defeat their opponents.Squadplay: For this test, each match will feature 100 players, organized into 25 four player squads, fighting to be the last one standing. Communicating with your squad through pings, text, or VOIP aims to boost the experience and enhance their tactical options. Second chances: Between the Support class revives and Mobile Redeploy options, there are multiple tools to keep your squad in the fight. BF6 BR will also have "the deadliest ring" in the genre, instantly killing players that it comes into contact with, so you better haul ****. "We set out to bring the most dangerous ring in gaming to Battle Royale that instantly kills players upon contact," BF6 devs explained. "With urgent warnings as the fire approaches, soldiers will be pushed into more intense firefights as the game space continues to shrink. There’s no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it - if you get caught in it, you are done. We’re excited to see how the ring affects the pace of the game and how it creates spontaneous showdowns." Like our content? 4. Battlefield 6 is finally here, and was very much worth the wait. It's probably the best BF experience in the last decade, superseding 2042 by a wide margin, both in quality and popularity. But, like any game, it can and will suffer issues following its initial launch. One such issue is the mysterious 1:8600 error code, which is plaguing some users and preventing them from getting into the game. So, here's everything you need to know about it, including a potential fix. What is error code 1:8600 in Battlefield 6? BF6 is out but not without a hitch. Image via EA Error code 1:8600 appears to pop up for players trying to load the game before even the main menu appears. It most commonly appears during authentication, which the game has to do to verify you're running a legit and purchased copy of the game, as well as that your PC isn't running potentially malicious software. The authentication process is directly tied to your account, which seems to be the most common cause of this error code. Battlefield 6 is most likely failing to authenticate your account, log you into EA's app underneath, or has given you a shadowban for whatever reason. Fixing the issue can usually be done by enabling in-game overlay, making sure you're logged into the EA app and with the proper account, or contacting EA support to ensure you're not banned. Connection issues, too, can prevent EA from connecting to the relevant authentication services. Go to your Firewall and see if EA or Battlefield 6 isn't blocked within, as that could prevent the authentication process from going through. If your internet is breaking up during this process, that, too, can mess things up and lead the system to fail to authenticate you. Some players have reported that external USB drives, such as Flash Drives or external HDDs, can cause the issue. The exact reason why this could be is unclear, though it could be due to Javelin anti-cheat mistakenly identifying your USB stick as potentially hazardous external hardware that could be used for nefarious in-game means. EA staff suggests verifying game files on your relevant platform, ensuring a stable and strong internet connection (and, likely, a less restrictive NAT type, which you should ask your ISP about), closing background apps that could be conflicting with the game, and updating drivers. Battlefield 6 also requires Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 to be enabled, as these security measures help prevent cheaters, and could be behind your failed authentications. If all else fails, contact EA Support and explain your issue in detail; it could reveal potential problems with your account itself, with the system flagging you for whatever reason. The company is working on resolving the issue as well, since it can just be on its own end. Like our content? 7. Battlefield 6 is off to a flying start, but many players (myself included) have ended up getting unforeseen crashes. In some situations, players have also reported being unable to launch. These are two fundamentally different problems. The issue of Battlefield 6 not launching stems from specific issues in the background, while the crashes appear to be completely random. Here's how you can try to address the problems before Battlefield Studios sends out a post-launch patch to resolve the situation. How to fix the Battlefield 6 not launching error The Battlefield 6 not launching error is a major problem that you can encounter if you don't have Secure Boot enabled. This is a result of the game's anti-cheat system, which requires you to have Secure Boot enabled. Given the tricky nature of the problem, I won't advise you on whether you should enable it or not. The process also requires you to go to your BIOS settings and make the change, which is a different rabbit hole altogether. [Hidden Content] If you have third-party mounting software like Daemon Tools, Battlefield 6 might either not launch at all, or you'll end up getting crashes. This is a minor issue that might get fixed later with a future patch. However, having Secure Boot enabled is a must if you want the game to be functional on your PC. How to fix Battlefield 6 crashes The crashes appear to be completely random in nature, so here are a few tips and tricks to try out. I have encountered three crashes as of writing on Oct. 10, and all three happened during the Campaign. I will stick to playing online in the meantime if you have also endured the same fate.Reduce the graphical load on your system by opting for the best settings that are suitable for your hardware. If you have downloaded Battlefield 6 on Steam, check the integrity of your downloaded file. If none of these steps work, the only alternative is to reinstall Battlefield 6 from scratch. Ultimately, EA is aware of the current situation, and permanent fixes are expected. Like our content? 13. Battlefield 6 has enjoyed an enormous start on Steam, with over 740,000 concurrent players. At the time of this article’s publication, Battlefield 6 had 747,440 concurrent players on Steam. That’s enough to make EA’s new first-person shooter the second most-played game on Valve’s platform, behind only Counter-Strike 2. Battlefield 6 is already the 14th most-played game ever on Steam, with Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 in its sights. For context, the Battlefield 6 open beta hit a peak concurrent player count of 521,079. No other Battlefield game has ever come close to these numbers on Steam before. Indeed, Battlefield 6 already has more players than EA's previous Steam record-holder, the free-to-play Apex Legends, which makes the $70 Battlefield 6's achievement all the more impressive. And if you’re wondering, the Call of Duty app, which encompasses all Call of Duty games, has a peak concurrent player count of 491,670 on Steam, which means Battlefield 6 is well on its way to doubling the record set by its FPS rival. The true concurrent player count will be much higher, when you consider players on PlayStation and Xbox, but neither Sony nor Microsoft make those numbers public. (This of course also counts for Call of Duty, which historically is stronger on console than PC.) Perhaps inevitably, Battlefield 6 players face server queues, although it doesn't take too long to log in right now. It’s early days, of course, but it looks like Battlefield 6 is a smash hit for EA. Battlefield 6 already has a huge number of players, but it also already has Call of Duty maps, with one eager fan recreating Modern Warfare favorite Shipment in Portal. While the game offers you two picks by default, you can expand your roster pretty soon. The actual time taken will differ depending on how well you're doing on your run and the speed of your progression. This guide will provide you with all the required information about the full roster, before discussing who is the best character. How to unlock all characters in Absolum The table below has all the information you need to know to unlock all four characters in Absolum. CharacterHow to UnlockKarlAvailable by defaultGalandraAvailable by defaultCiderCider is the first of the two unlockable characters in Absolum. You'll find Gazog in an encounter, and then take him down. Gazog isn't the most demanding boss you'll come across; however, he can still dish out decent damage. Once you take care of Gazog, visit the Goblin Village. There, you'll need to assist Cider in a battle, and she will then become available for selection. BromeBrome is the second of two characters to unlock in the game. You'll encounter him in Jaroba and then help him in a battle to add him to your roster. It's fair to say that Brome will likely take a long time for you reach him. Which is the best character in Absolum Screenshot by Destructoid All four characters in Absolum have their unique playstyles, strengths, and weaknesses. You can clear the game with all of them. However, my favorite character is Galandra. She's available from the start, and her kit is better than that of Karl. Galandra's playstyle is highly suitable for every style of player. It does just the right amount of damage without being overpowered. Once you upgrade some of your Rituals from Vikhana, Galandra will definitely be the easiest character to master to clear the game. If you want to go for a ranged playstyle instead, go with Brome. His kit is pretty simple and fun to play for those who don't want to get too close to the enemies. And if things are too challenging, you can always change the difficulty from the settings. Like our content? 20. It feels like it was just yesterday that Sony hardware architect Mark Cerny was first teasing Sony's "PS4 successor" and its "enhanced ray-tracing capabilities" powered by new AMD chips. Now that we're nearly five full years into the PS5 era, it's time for Sony and AMD to start teasing the new chips that will power what Cerny calls "a future console in a few years' time." In a quick nine-minute video posted Thursday, Cerny sat down with Jack Huynh, the senior VP and general manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Group, to talk about "Project Amethyst," a co-engineering effort between both companies that was also teased back in July. And while that Project Amethyst hardware currently only exists in the form of a simulation, Cerny said that the "results are quite promising" for a project that's still in the "early days." Mo’ ML, fewer problems? Project Amethyst is focused on going beyond traditional rasterization techniques that don't scale well when you try to "brute force that with raw power alone," Huynh said in the video. Instead, the new architecture is focused on more efficient running of the kinds of machine-learning-based neural networks behind AMD's FSR upscaling technology and Sony's similar PSSR system.
