It's hard to top Valve when it comes to its catalog of timeless, competitive multiplayer games. Dota 2 and Counter-Strike are of course the poster children, but Team Fortress 2 is still going extremely strong all these years later and benefitting from occasional updates, too. However, over time, classics like TF2 evolve - new mechanics, maps, and modes, balance changes, and even engine upgrades often mean that a game's original feel gets lost. Team Fortress 2 Classic is a long-running mod that aims to take things back to those early days of TF2, and it recently made its way to Steam. However, its upcoming open beta has been scrapped after coming across an unusual issue - Valve won't let something be a mod and a demo at the same time. This strange case may have also spawned a new problem for Team Fortress 2 Classic - it might have to rebrand. Read the rest of the story... Crossings, an upcoming action-adventure roguelite set in the Norse afterlife, released a PC VR demo ahead of Steam Next Fest. Previously revealed during May's Creature Feature presentation, Crossings is the latest title from developer Neat Corporation (Budget Cuts, Garden of the Sea). It promises a quest for vengeance across “an ever-changing world” against trolls, Draugr, and more while searching for the Nornir, supporting seamless co-op with friends and others. While a release date is unconfirmed beyond a 2025 release window, a Crossings demo is now available on Steam following last month's open alpha testing. This includes “a slice” of the full game that showcases combat, spellcasting, and early progression. Future closed beta tests will also become available via the official Discord server. It focuses heavily on combat, requiring you to successfully block, dodge, strike, and power through foes. Equipped with various melee weapons and spells cast through a gesture-based control system, you can gradually upgrade your character and weapons over time to defeat the bosses. Three environments are featured in the full game, and you'll slowly rebuild your memories of your lost village. It's the second game we've seen so far from co-publisher Creature to release a PC VR demo before next week's Steam Next Fest. Yesterday also brought news that Deadly Delivery, a comedic horror co-op courier game, has also released a Steam demo alongside an open beta on Quest. We'll bring you more Next Fest coverage once the week-long event officially begins on October 13. Crossings will launch later this year on Steam and Quest. View the full article
Today, a new batch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A leaks is coming from the game's 1.0.1 patch, which some players online claim to have their hands on. Among the most surprising reveals, Pokémon dataminer Kaphotics pointed out that Legends: Z-A could release without Mega Rayquaza. Kaphotics pulled all Pokémon moves in the game files, and Rayquaza's signature attack, Dragon Ascent, is not on the list. This move has been exclusive to Rayquaza since it got its Mega form in Generation six, and the Legendary Pokémon has never been seen without Dragon Ascent in its move pool. If accurate, this information all but confirms that Rayquaza and its Mega form will not be available when Legends: Z-A releases. [Hidden Content] Other data backs up this claim. The form reversion table Kaphotics pulled from the Legends: Z-A files also suggests Mega Rayquaza is missing. This table shows Pokémon that have multiple forms that are reverted when they're moved to the box, like Castform's weather forms and Darmanitan's Zen Mode. Mega Evolutions count as a reversible form, so all Mega Pokémon revealed so far, such as Malamar, Hawlucha, and Victreebel, are on this list. Rayquaza isn't, so it shouldn't have extra forms aside from its base looks as of Z-A patch 1.0.1. That doesn't mean Mega Rayquaza will never be in the game. Raichu is also absent from the form reversion list, but The Pokémon Company has confirmed Mega Raichu X and Y will come out with the Mega Dimensions DLC on February 28, 2026. So, it's reasonable to think that Mega Rayquaza could also become available with the DLC. Take those leaks with a grain of salt. While Kaphotics is a reliable dataminer, all the information they've published is unconfirmed and subject to change until Pokémon Legends: Z-A comes out. But I don't see The Pokémon Company giving up on Mega Rayquaza on Legends: Z-A, which is why I believe in the theory that it's coming in a future DLC. Rayquaza is one of the most liked legendaries in the series: it was the #8 overall Pokémon of the Year in 2020 and #1 from the Hoenn region. It's more likely that The Pokémon Company is delaying its launch to drive DLC sales than leaving it out of the game entirely. Scooby Doo and his friends have arrived on the Fortnite island to help put a stop to the spooky chaos that has overtaken it for Fortnitemares. They need your help to do so, though, which is why they come with some key found quests to complete. The 2025 installment of Fortnitemares offers loads of free rewards, but to earn them, you first need to work through lots of important quests, including these ones. Most of these missions are fairly tough to get done, so here's how to complete all the Scooby Doo found quests in Fortnite. All Scooby Doo quests in Fortnite Screenshot by Destructoid There are five missions you need to get done to complete all Scooby Doo quests. There's one to tackle for each member of the gang, and most of these tasks are fairly complex, with many smaller quests you have to get done within the larger one. To tackle these missions, you'll first need to know all Scooby Doo character locations, as you must meet up with each one to acquire these tasks. QuestHow to completeDaphne's found questFind Daphne's missing luggage and interrogate the thief.Fred's found questRecover the five missing pieces of the Mystery Machine and return them to Fred.Velma's found questFind Velma's lost magnifying glass. Shaggy's found questMake a burger for Shaggy. Scooby Doo's found questHire Scooby Doo.Complete Daphne's found quest in Fortnite For Daphne's found quest, you need to find her stolen luggage and confront the thief who took it. Both the luggage and the thief can be found on a mountain that's slightly southwest of Daphne's location at Viney Shafts. They're near the edge of the mountain, close to some tents and RVs parked there. Approach the luggage to check off the first task, then walk over to Mothman a few feet away to chat with him about stealing her belongings. Complete Fred's found quest in Fortnite To complete Fred's found quest, you need to find the five lost pieces of the Mystery Machine. This includes two tires, which are found on the road leading down to Ranger's Rest, and three engine parts, which can be scavenged from junk piles near the end of the road right by the entrance to Ranger's Rest. Once you have all five pieces, take them back to Fred to finish the mission. Screenshot by Destructoid Complete Velma's found quest in Fortnite Velma's lost an important item, and finding it for her is the only way to complete her found quest. For this mission, you must find the missing magnifying glass. This item is located on the second floor of the house Velma is in. You can find it right behind some boxes covered with white sheets in the corner of the small second-floor area. Complete Shaggy's found quest in Fortnite Next up is Shaggy's found quest, in which you must gather three ingredients to grill the perfect burger. Around the gas station, there are loads of ingredients marked with a white diamond icon. Walk up to three of them to pick up the items you need. Once you have three, head behind the counter to enter the kitchen, then interact with the stove to cook the burger. Pick it up and bring it to Shaggy to finish this mission. Screenshot by Destructoid Hire Scooby Doo in Fortnite Your last mission is also the easiest, as you simply need to hire Scooby Doo once to finish it. You can find him hanging out inside a gas station that's west of Bugswatter Beach, south of Creepy Camps, and north of Viney Shafts. It's best to head there straight from the battle bus to ensure you're able to recruit him before another player does. You need 600 gold bars to hire him, so make sure you have a solid amount of gold before attempting this quest. With all of the Scooby Doo quests now complete, you can move on to tackling other key Fortnitemares quests. You'll need to complete many more missions to unlock all available event rewards. Some good ones to work on next are visiting Pumpkin Takeovers with the Mother of Thorns, becoming Ghostface, and finding the Mother of Thorns Doja Cat. Like our content? As triple-A fatigue sets in for some, we're seeing small, often slightly strange indie games take off like almost never before. Schedule 1, R.E.P.O, Peak, and, most recently, Megabonk have all carved their name into videogame history, while some blockbuster titans have floundered. Of course, I'd be remiss to leave Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 off that list - it's my personal GOTY so far, after all. But what are Sandfall's picks? One dev's answer surprised me. Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos: The New Dawn developer Bloober Team is working on a number of new projects, including a Nintendo Switch 2 version of its disorientating horror Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition, and a number of smaller games from its subsidiary, Broken Mirror Games, which include a mysterious Switch exclusive, codenamed Project M. We don't quite know exactly when The Masterpiece Edition will land — it's still labelled as coming in 2025 despite the fact we're running down the clock of what's left of the year — but as reported in the firm's recent investor briefing, it's described as a "complete edition," presumably bundling the base game with subsequent content and the refreshed visuals we saw in 2023's Layers of Fears. As for Broken Mirror's offering? Here, we can expect isometric horror I Hate This Place based on the 80s comic of the same name that's still listed as releasing next month, but has been delayed to January 29, 2026. But there are also two codenamed games in development, too: Project M and Project F. We know next to nothing about Project F, but Project M is thought to release next year. While the live-action teaser we saw earlier this year gives away very little — other than the M could stand for "Marionette", perhaps?! — Bloober confirms it will be available exclusively on both Switch 2 and the OG console. And of course, after the phenomenal success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober is also remaking the first game in the franchise. There's not much to go on, unfortunately, but we did get a brief tease during June's Konami Press Start Live showcase that included the Silent Hill logo and its iconic music. No release date was mentioned, unfortunately, but it followed news in February that Bloober Team had signed a deal with Konami to make a new game based on the Japanese company’s IP. We thought 2023's Layers of Fear remake was 'Okay,' awarding it 6/10, writing: "Layers of Fear is an atmospheric tour through the shattered psyches of some seriously tortured artists, but predictable shock tactics fail to provide more than a handful of genuine scares, let alone layers of them." Embark Studios has had quite the task on its hands with marketing Arc Raiders, which could easily be written off as 'just another extraction game,' but its risen to it tenfold. Don't get me wrong, there's always a niche group of shooter fans keen for these kinds of experiences, but Arc Raiders is generating some more mainstream appeal too - to see the multiplayer game sitting in fifth position on Steam's most wishlisted games list still (pleasantly) surprises me. It'll rise to fourth shortly when Battlefield 6 is out the door. However, I've always worried about wipes. It's an unavoidable feature of extraction shooters, but one that can turn people off as soon as they realize their gear and progression could be Thanos-snapped away after a few months. Once again, though, Embark has seemingly hit a sweet spot, revealing a clever system for Arc Raiders' wipes. Read the rest of the story...
