  11. Diablo Immortal has had its ups and downs, just as its big brother Diablo IV has, but I have to admit the team working on Immortal has constantly been adding things that pique my interest. The Blood Knight was the first new class added to the Diablo franchise in nine years and it was an interesting spin on what I’d imagine a Castlevania protagonist would play like in the Diablo world. The Tempest is next and after playing for a while, I’m happy to report that the class adds an interesting set of new abilities and moves that make it a compelling option for players. I couldn’t tell if it would land in the S-tier category during my playtime, but it’s certainly got a lot of style that sets it apart from the others. The Tempest’s main ability is focused on duplicating your character to set up an ******* from all angles, as each clone (aka Zephyr) will mimic your attacks, which makes for some great gameplay moments that make you feel like a powerful trickster running laps around the demons on the map. The waterblades your character wields gave me **** of War vibes for a moment, but in practice, the Tempest is a bit more like a trickster, zipping around the map and making it hard for enemies to get a bead on you. Using the power of wind and water, combined with your Zephyr’s, you’ll find that the initial Wave Edge and Mist-Touch combo will make great building blocks that help you get a feel for the playstyle. Some of the first skills like Squall and Crosswinds are wave and wind attacks that will propel you in a direction and spawn a Zephyr once cast. From there you can finish off that initial setup with an ******* like Cascade which makes “you and your Zephyrs slam your edges into the ground, unleashing a crashing wave around you.” In practice, with these abilities I found the early game had me quickly zipping around the map to spawn my Zephyrs before setting up this trap over and over again to take me through the first few missions. It was a lot of fun to figure out a good flow and watch enemies melt as you did so. Not only are the movements interesting, but the overall design style is something I really like. These dual dagger-wielding Tempests look sleek and stylish, with vibes from other games and classes in the mix. The Zephyr mechanic could be compared to a ****** minion build, but for the Tempest, the Zephyrs act on a cooldown as opposed to having a set health meter – meaning you’ll need to set them up with each encounter as opposed to simply having them follow you around. That said, on a late game build they provided us with the Samilian WIndbrush and a 5-Star Echoing Shade that added a 15% chance to "summon a shadow clone for 17 seconds that attacks nearby enemies with one of your Primary Attacks." This addition did give you closes that romed along side you for a short ******* of time. These touches mean it's definitely a class I could see myself having a lot of fun with. The Tempest has a short origin quest when starting out with the character too, giving you a bit more history about the Tempest origin. The other notable part of this preview was the huge change to the Paragon system. Blizzard tells us that all progress made on the Paragons so far will be retained, and that the 15 Paragon trees have been reduced to five. The goal is to give more options to mix and match your skills and because your progress is retained it’ll be nice to keep building it out as you grind the endgame. The trees you could stat into now include Frenzy of Battle, Soul of Conquest, Grind Expedition, Invincibility, Stringed, and for the Tempest there was a Wind tree. Add the skills you want to use to your new skill tree and take them for a spin. I like this new system, as in the retail build it does feel like you get locked in a bit more, and now you can, at Paragon level 300, choose six skills to put into your build. The main criticism I have so far, strangely, is that Immortal feels incredibly easy. I know I’m the target audience, but progression has been ratched up so much that in the span of about an hour I had hit level 20 while everything around me melted. I realize that Blizzard wants to get you to endgame faster when rolling a 2nd or 3rd character instead of using the Class Swap option introduced a year after launch, but it doesn’t really give you a chance to learn by failing. You’re thrown so much loot and information a bit fast. Even trying out a Blood Knight at home after the event, I took him past level 30 by playing a mission here and there passively with minimum time put in. The ease of which takes away from the rewarding feeling you get when conquering something challenging. The main criticism I have so far, strangely, is that Immortal feels incredibly easy. All that said, when I asked about the health of the player base for Diablo Immortal, Blizzard told us that it “has been very healthy the whole time” during our interview. And because player counts saw a huge spike with the Blood Knight release, I’d imagine that we see one again with the Tempest. They also let us know that they’re already working on another character class addition and that they’d love to bring back characters they used to have as well While I’ve had my criticisms about some of the mechanics Diablo Immortal uses, I do admit that I am impressed with the sheer amount of additions made to it in two years. There’s so much to ***** into that it’s almost overwhelming when you sign back in. But because they’ve added two classes that are entirely new to the franchise, it’s worth trying them out for a few levels to see how they feel. I know I’ll be taking a peek in between my Diablo IV time when the Tempest and Paragon changes come to Immortal on May 23rd. View the full article
  12. Rockstar Games co-founder and Grand Theft Auto writer and producer Dan Houser is hard at work on a new game with his new studio, Absurd Ventures. And we think we know a little more about what that game looks like, including its setting, which is a new sci-fi universe the studio is creating called A Better Paradise. Houser announced his new endeavor last year, revealing that Absurd Ventures would be "building narrative worlds, creating characters, and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres, without regard to medium, to be produced for live-action and animation; video games and other interactive content; books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts." The studio was seemingly founded way back in 2021, with Houser serving as co-founder and director. Earlier this week, several outlets noticed that recent job openings for Absurd Ventures were looking for developers on "an open world action-adventure game" it currently had in the cooker. One listing in particular specified "best-in-class combat" and "third-person action across multiple game modes," and requested developers familiar with a mix of both melee and ********* action mechanics, "non-combat forms of action gameplay (driving, mounts, climbing, traversal, platforming, etc)," Unreal Engine 4 or 5, and working with co-development partners. Then, yesterday, Absurd Ventures separately announced a release date for its audio fiction series set in its new sci-fi universe, A Better Paradise. The series launches on June 10 and will span 12 episodes, but ******* in the release is the news that Absurd Ventures is also making video games in the same expanded universe. "In addition to launching Volume One of the A Better Paradise audio series, Houser, Lazlow [Jones], and the Absurd Ventures team are in various stages of development on multiple projects set in the A Better Paradise universe, including additional audio fiction seasons, as well as television and video game titles." Sounds an awful lot like that's the universe for the new open world action-adventure game, right? An insider source affirmed our suspicions that this was the case, which means we can infer a little more about the new game. According to the official website, the universe is "set in the near future" and follows "the ill-fated development of an ambitious but addictive digital game-world project led by inventor and psychologist, Dr. Mark Tyburn." As the advanced software they developed began delivering unexpected and disturbing results, the team fell apart under strange circumstances and the project was abandoned. The game world and the super-intelligence within were discarded, left dormant and undiscovered. Until now. Admittedly, we can't say yet how all this fits together with the transmedia franchise Houser and Absurd Ventures seems to be building. And we similarly don't know how it's all connected to the audio series — do we need to listen to all 12 episodes to understand this eventual game? Who knows! For now, it's all speculation, but Houser has quite the resume to back himself up here. He was a writer and/or producer for almost every single Grand Theft Auto game, as well as both Red ***** Redemptions. And he was an executive producer on L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3, and a writer on Bully. Houser resigned from Rockstar way back in 2021, and seems to have been quietly cooking on this new series ever since. His brother and fellow Rockstar co-founder, Sam Houser, is still at the company as its current president. Rebekah Valentine is a senior reporter for IGN. Got a story tip? 13. Animal Well on the surface may seem like a simplistic game, but when you play and progress, things get super complicated very fast. The Slink showcases that depth early on and it only gets deeper from there. However, the F Pack in Animal Well may be a different story, and it’s a good idea to know how to find and use it. Animal Well: How to find and use the F PackThe most important thing to note is that F. Pack is found later in the game. Specifically, in the final area of Animal Well. If you can get past the Manticore boss, which might be taken down the same way as the Bat boss, then you’re halfway there. The credits will roll after you beat the Manticore, however, that’s not the end of the game. During the credits, just wait around till a key drops. Once you’ve found the key, pick it up and head to the house on the right. Saving here is a good idea which can be done inside the house. 14. There are many ways to play the Necromancer class in Diablo 4, but drawing blood from your enemies is especially brutal. Here is how to get the Cruor’s Embrace Necromancer Unique in Diablo 4 and its best build. How to get the Cruor’s Embrace Unique in Diablo 4Similarly to other Uniques, you can find the Cruor’s Embrace gloves as a drop after defeating enemies and opening chests all across Sanctuary. 15. Starfield may offer players a near endless galaxy to explore but when it comes to role-playing as a specific character, modders have had to step in to provide everyone with a more unique experience. Upon starting a new game in Starfield, all users will need to make a character and while the customization options are plentiful, the backgrounds and origin stories feel limited, especially when they have so little impact on the larger story. They also seem to be mechanically random, assigning skills to backgrounds that don't necessarily make sense; Why are Sculptors good at Medicine? View the full article

  17. As a fan of the classic Age of Empires, the idea of reviewing a modern war RTS was enticing to say the least. After all, how different of an experience can it really be, right? Well, in the case of Men of War 2 – and the Men of War franchise – it is substantially different, which ended up being an experience I found mildly perplexing yet somehow still incredibly fascinating. Let’s take a look at what Men of War 2 has to offer. Forget what you know about the genreLet’s start by saying that if your experience in RTS games is based on what Age of Empires has to offer – which was partly my case – then you are in for a wild ride. Men of War 2 is one of those games you want to play with a manual on your hands, all while replaying the tutorial missions to make sure I understood everything the first time. The game is massive, but not precisely due to the amount of content it offers, but in how different and complex the gameplay feels. 20. Enlarge / The RetroArch app installed in tvOS. (credit: Andrew Cunningham) [/url] Apple’s initial pitch for the tvOS and the Apple TV as it currently exists was centered around apps. No longer a mere streaming box, the Apple TV would also be a destination for general-purpose software and games, piggybacking off of the iPhone's vibrant app and game library. That never really panned out, and the Apple TV is still mostly a box for streaming TV shows and movies. But the same App Store rule change that recently allowed Delta, PPSSPP, and other retro console emulators onto the iPhone and iPad could also make the Apple TV appeal to people who want a small, efficient, no-fuss console emulator for their TVs. So far, few of the emulators that have made it to the iPhone have been ported to the Apple TV. But earlier this week, the streaming box got an official port of RetroArch, the sprawling collection of emulators that runs on everything from the PlayStation Portable to the Raspberry Pi. RetroArch could be sideloaded onto iOS and tvOS before this, but only using awkward workarounds that took a lot more work and know-how than downloading an app from the App Store. 21. Devolver Digital is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, and among the celebrations planned for such an event is a massive ***** being held on Steam, as reported earlier today. It is an extremely comprehensive *****, with close to the indie publisher's entire catalog getting notable discounts. In fact, it would actually be easier to list the one Devolver game that's not on *****: Reigns: Beyond, if only because the game's Steam release is the most recent, combined with its low price. But much like adults who can't see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, those blinded by the massive amount of deals may miss the fact that Devolver appears to be using the ***** itself to tease some future games.
