Acer has just announced that its humongous upcoming Acer Predator Z57 miniLED gaming monitor will not retail for $2,499 as originally announced, but will instead sell for $1,999 - a massive $500 price drop. While that's still expensive, it's an incredible price for such a large screen. Acer's new contender for a spot on our best gaming monitor guide was announced at CES 2024 at the start of the year, alongside a host of other gaming monitors. I had the chance to write an Acer Predator Z57 hands on preview with the display and was impressed at the sheer scale of it, although Acer hadn't set up the demo to really highlight the high contrast of which it should be capable. For as much as I love my big, ambitious strategy games, I run into the same problem every time I think about starting up a fresh save: the time investment. Having a limited number of hours to devote to recreational play, I know I'll have to set an entire Saturday aside if I really want to dig into Total War: Warhammer 3 or Crusader Kings 3 beyond the opening few turns or decades. Nexus 5X arrives as the solution to this problem, offering a pared-down, faster-paced version of the 4X experience that nonetheless preserves a lot of the flavor and variety you can get from its full-**** ancestor, Stellaris. Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Sony is working on a new “high-end version” of the PS5, codenamed Trinity and likely to debut as the PS5 Pro later this year. The Verge confirmed leaked specs about the PS5 Pro earlier this week, and we’ve also obtained details on how existing and new PS5 games can be “enhanced” to take advantage of the PS5 Pro hardware. Sony is also working on an ultra-boost mode for older games to make them run better on the PS5 Pro. Sources familiar with Sony’s plans tell The Verge that Sony is asking developers to create a new PS5 Pro-exclusive graphics mode in games that combines Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling to 4K resolution with a 60fps frame rate and ray-tracing effects. Insider Gaming first reported on some of... Continue reading… View the full article
Video games have often allowed the player to enter the role of a villain with great effect. Whether it's the dastardly deeds of Dungeon Keeper or the potential to go down evil routes in series like Fallout, there are many great games where the player is a villain. Enter Life Eater, from Strange Scaffold and Frost Pop, where the player is responsible for some extremely nefarious acts; but is there a valid reason behind them? View the full article
Honkai: Star Rail players have voiced their frustration over the game's relic system, claiming it's unrewarding and restrictive. There are two types of relic sets in Honkai: Star Rail, Planar Ornaments and Cavern Relics. Planar Ornaments, which can be placed in the Planar Sphere and Link Rope slots, serve as additional gear and provide some rare stats. Cavern Relics, on the other hand, boost the character's main stats like HP and ATK. Unlike Planar Ornaments, they have a 4-piece effect that makes the wearer even more powerful. View the full article

It's another day, so here's news of another Helldivers 2 patch that does things. What are those things? Well, a lot of the usual kinds of fixes, plus a passive swap that stops one of the latest warbond's armours from accidentally being a magnet for buyer's confusion, if not buyer's remorse. If you're out of the loop, the Democratic Detonation Warbond arrived in-game last week, bringing with it a bunch of useful tools to help you continue to battle the returned automatons, even if you can't afford the latest ship module upgrades. Sadly, up until this latest patch arrived, if you bought one of the armour sets on offer, you weren't quite getting what you paid for. As detailed in the notes for patch 01.000.203, the main thing it does is resolve a bit of a mixup regarding the CE-27 Ground Breaker armour. You see, it'd accidentally shipped with a 'servo-assisted' passive, instead of the 'engineering kit' one it was advertised as featuring. Read more View the full article
The voice actor behind the popular Fallout 3 radio host Three Dog has expressed interest in appearing in season two of the Fallout TV show. Erik Todd Dellums played Three Dog in Bethesda’s 2008 post-apocalyptic role-playing game and became the sound of the wasteland for many players. While Three Dog ******** Dellums’ only role in Fallout so far, his performance is a memorable one, given the character’s prominence on the in-game radio station, Galaxy News Radio, and how he would comment on various actions of the Lone Wanderer through his radio broadcasts. In a tweet, Dellums said he would love to voice a new DJ in Fallout Season 2, one “Darker than Three Dog, but just as funny and alluring!” He added: “I've got something new to unleash!” I would love to voice a new DJ in the #FalloutOnPrime series! Darker than ThreeDog, but just as funny and alluring! I've got something new to unleash! Seeking #ToddHoward! #ShareLove #ThreeDog [Hidden Content] — ErikToddDellums (@ErikToddDellums) April 13, 2024 There’s a good reason why it’s unlikely Dellums would be able to reprise his role as Three Dog in Fallout Season 2 even if he wanted to: the TV show looks like it’s heading towards another West Coast location, whereas Three Dog is holded up in the Galaxy News Radio building in Washington D.C., assuming he’s still alive by the time the show kicks off in 2296 — 19 years after the events of Fallout 3. But perhaps, should Bethesda development chief Todd Howard be up for it, Dellums could play a new DJ in Season 2, which is so far unannounced but seems like a decent bet given the popularity of Season 1. The Fallout TV show once again proves that with the right creative team, videogames can be adapted to almost anything. It's not about breaking some huge, mythical, videogame movie curse. More simply, shows like The Last of Us, and, in fact, the Sonic films, prove that all you need is a good understanding of the source material and the ability to process that into a watchable story. Amazon's Fallout show does this. It has strong characters and uses them to flesh out the retro-futurist post-apocalypse in surprising ways. That said, the final shot of the show's first season raises one big question, and I'm apprehensively waiting to see how it's handled. Read the rest of the story... Remember No? Well, it seems like Disney+ is reinventing them anyway, as it apparently looks set to introduce 24/7 scheduled content. A lot of you younger readers will likely be a lot more familiar with streaming services as opposed to traditional, cable television, meaning you won't be so familiar with the idea that TV didn't used to be as on-demand as it is now. You'd have to "channel hop" looking around different stations for the show you wanted to watch, and there wasn't a guarantee that something good was on. Streaming has pretty much gotten rid of that entirely, but it seems like cable is coming back, as a recent report from The Information claims that Disney+ is looking to introduce 24/7 channels, complete with commercial breaks. This would obviously follow a time-honoured tradition of regularly broadcasted on-the-air TV that started way back in 1936 with the BBC, the world's first regular television service. There aren't really many details on what Disney's plans are exactly for such a feature, but apparently it will be genre-based, or you can choose channels based on whether you want to watch something like the National Geographic, or just one animated Disney film after the other. It doesn't sound like you'll be able to use this feature without a subscription, though, which means you'd essentially be paying to watch content you can otherwise watch ad-free, but with ads spliced throughout what you're watching. Following a mild-to-moderate outcry, Ubisoft have clarified that queasy worm gangster Jabba The Hutt isn't, in fact, a Star Wars Outlaws special edition or season pass exclusive. The apparently much-beloved star slug will appear in every edition of the game, but if you scrape together the credits for the Gold or Ultimate Editions, you'll get access to a Jabba's Gambit mission as part of the game's season pass. It's a timely clarification, because I've just checked on Xitter and yes, #Jabbagate has been trending... in reference to unflattering photos of Donald Trump in 2016. And also, Steven Gerrard in 2020. And... Wrestlemania in 2017? Jabba is quite the meme these days, it seems. Read more View the full article
