Ahead of the release of the Dawntrail expansion later this year, there’s a new Final Fantasy XIV Benchmark test available that lets players preview the 7.0 graphics update and make sure their PC is capable of handling the new visuals. This test isn’t available for the PlayStation or Xbox versions of FFXIV, so console players will have to sit this one out.The most important thing that players are worried about, however, is how their custom Warriors of Light will look with the new graphics update in place. In addition to sprucing up environments and adding new levels of detail to each of the game’s zones, character models will be changed with the release of the Dawntrail expansion. Most FFXIV players are unhealthily attached to their custom characters, so this is a serious problem. How to Add Your Custom Character to the FFXIV Dawntrail BenchmarkIf you want to test out the FFXIV Dawntrail Benchmark with your custom Warrior of Light instead of the default play...View the full article

Starships are supposed to be one of the few things in No Man's Sky that players can't trade with one another, but an incredible interaction between players online seems to confirm that two random members of the community have somehow swapped starships unintentionally thanks to a bizarre glitch in the game. Many fans of No Man's Sky have shared examples of some odd bugs in the past, and many more have even utilized such faults in the game's code to their advantage in base building through a process known as "glitch building." There's a number from Amazon's Fallout series that can actually be called, only the person that picks up doesn't send all that pleased to hear from you. Light spoilers ahead for the Fallout show. Whenever there's a phone number clearly shown in a piece of media, the first question should always be "does anything happen when you call this number?" A lot of the time it won't lead to anything, as they're often fake, but sometimes production companies will set it up so that when you call the number you're met with a fun, in-world message. For example, actually calling Saul Goodman's number from Breaking Bad will net you a fake message from his office, which is a fun one. Amazon's Fallout series released just last week, and in the sixth episode there's a flashback featuring Walton Goggins' character performing in an ad for Vault-Tec. Read more View the full article

The Avatar Mythics are the highlight of Fortnite currently, and players are discovering strange glitches that can happen with them. Did you know that Fortnite players have figured out that you can use air bending while being knocked down?Air bending is possible when you’re knocked down in FortniteWhile scrolling on TikTok, I noticed an interesting video about a Fortnite player who managed to use air bending while being knocked down. In the video, you can see this player is knocked but is somehow still able to Air Wheel and then Air Jump at the end to get back to their teammate. So is this real?Screenshot: PC InvasionFor now, it seems like this can happen through a glitch of some kind. I tested this out myself in my own Fortnite game and I unfortunately couldn’t recreate it. Although you probably can’t initiate air bending after being knocked, my guess is that this can happen if you get knocked while using air bending. It would make sense, and it see...View the full article

Five years after LawBreakers shut down, we're getting to play the gravity-defying multiplayer FPS again thanks to fans. LawBreakers was the first game from Boss Key Productions, a studio co-founded by Gears Of Wars lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, and it had delightful ultraviolence beneath its uninspiring genric look. Alas, it did not sell well. Boss Key closed less than a year after launch, and the game soon followed. But after years of work, a group of fans this weekend successfully ran the first public test for a workaround to play the game again. While there's no clear launch plan yet, more playtesting will follow. Read more View the full article
Now we're all basking in the radioactive glow of success coming from Amazon's Fallout TV show, a lot of people are naturally wondering which video game series they might like to see get the Hollywood treatment next. Interestingly, for Dragon Age's former lead writer, the answer isn't, er, Dragon Age. Yep, as it turns out, not everyone who's worked on a video game necessarily thinks that game would translate well, or come off in the same way it does in game form, on the big screen. Sometimes things might just not translate, you know, no matter how many little homages to the games that inspired the series or fun maps you might be able to sprinkle in. Responding to a post about the idea of a Fallout-style TV shows being made about other games (thanks, TheGamer), David Gaider, who formerly served as the lead writer on the Dragon Age series while working at Bioware, tweeted that he thinks a Dragon Age show would be "a terrible idea". Enlarge / Photos of iGBA that appeared on the App Store before the app was taken down. (credit: [Hidden Content]) [/url] Over the weekend, developer Mattia La Spina launched iGBA as one of the first retro game emulators legitimately available on the iOS App Store following Apple's rules change regarding such emulators earlier this month. As of Monday morning, though, iGBA has been pulled from the App Store following controversy over the unauthorized reuse of source code from a different emulator project. Shortly after iGBA's launch, some people on social media began noticing that the project appeared to be based on the code for GBA4iOS, a nearly decade-old emulator that developer Riley Testut and a partner developed as high-schoolers (and distributed via a temporary security ***** in the iOS App store). Testut took to social media Sunday morning to call iGBA a "knock-off" of GBA4iOS. "I did not give anyone permission to do this, yet it’s now sitting at the top of the charts (despite being filled with ads + tracking)," he wrote. GBA4iOS is an open source program released under the GNU GPLv2 license, with licensing terms that let anyone "use, modify, and distribute my original code for this project without ***** of legal consequences." But those expansive licensing terms only apply "unless you plan to submit your app to Apple’s App Store, in which case written permission from me is explicitly required." Elden Ring is already a massive game but one dedicated dataminer learned that FromSoftware's RPG was originally intended to be even more gigantic. As players explore the massive world of The Lands Between, they'll uncover a couple of notable underground areas that not only serve as a fresh change of pace from the fields of Limgrave but also pose a significant challenge thanks to their more claustrophobic environments. As it turns out, the developers originally intended for there to be even more of these locales as well as a unique mechanic that would have altered the world completely. View the full article

For the first two weeks of Into The Light, Bungie wanted to try something new for Trials of Osiris: a Special ammo crate system to replace the current meter one. But it’s only taken one weekend for Destiny 2 players to pan the direction, with most hoping it’s scrapped completely. During this first weekend, Destiny 2 implemented what was described as an “unrestricted” crate system, with four Special ammo crates available every round. The impact was immediate—many fireteams started to run double Special loadouts, and the Forerunner Exotic sidearm soared to the top of ***** charts compiled by Trials Report. It had roughly 500,000 more ****** this weekend over its closest competitor, another Special *******, no doubt contributing to what one player described as “the worst week of Trials” they’ve experienced in recent memory. If you’re watching the Fallout TV show as a fan of the video games, you might be wondering what XP level Lucy would end up with, based on all the events of the series. It’s a question that has popped up on social media ever since the Fallout TV show made its debut on Prime Video and fans worked their way through to the end of season one. Some are now having fun trying to offer an answer, applying the levelling system from Fallout 3 to what we see Lucy get up to during the show. We won’t spoil the show at this point, but it’s worth pointing out that it revolves around vault dweller Lucy MacLean venturing out into the wasteland for the first time in a scene reminiscent of the Bethesda's trademark ‘stepping out into an open world’ set piece. Warning: spoilers for the Fallout TV show now follow: If the eight episodes of the Fallout TV show were a Fallout video game, what amount of XP might Lucy have accumulated? X/Twitter user Many A True Nerd has some theories. But first, we need to establish a few rules. At the start of the show, before she's even left her vault, Lucy mentions her proficiency with repair, science, and speech skills. There are subsequent signs that suggest Lucy is playing Fallout on one of the easier difficulties (that bear went down with one shot from a *******!), but also on Survival Mode, given the problems she has with water. This is something of a contradiction, but it gives us a framework to work with, at least. Ok, let's run some data here; The Fallout TV series presumably runs by Bethesda rules, and thus we can reasonably assume the ratio of XP-from-combat to XP-from-quests is going to skew heavily towards combat. This works against Lucy's levelling speed. [Hidden Content] — Many A True Nerd (@ManyATrueNerd) April 14, 2024 But what do we see Lucy actually do in the show that would earn XP? Not much combat (she shoots a few radroaches at one point, but talks her way out of most situations). She leaves the Vault, discovers Filly, escorts Wilzig, then goes off on a few side quests. One of these involves taking down an organ harvesting organization (potentially the biggest source of XP), and another involves shenanigans in a separate Vault. Lucy then rejoins the main quest as the show ends. Here’s Many A True Nerd’s verdict: “Overall, four quests representing the main plot, and two side quests, plus extremely limited combat, though technically she probably receives XP for Maximus' ****** when he's an active companion. There's also XP for location discovery, but it feels like she didn't explore that much. “Even allowing for bonus survival mode XP, it's hard to see her having more than 4,000 - 5,000 XP across the entire journey, with probably an extra 1,000 tossed in for Main Quest completion. That would put her about Level 8, and I feel like I'm being generous.” While Lucy's end of season XP level ******** subjective, we know her official S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats courtesy of Fallout Shelter, which recently added characters from the TV show into the game. Based on this, we know Lucy’s character sheet: Strength 4Perception 7Endurance 6Charisma 5Intelligence 6Agility 5Luck 7 Most seem to agree this is a fair representation of Lucy in the show, especially that Luck stat. Perhaps Charisma could be a little higher. If you’re wondering, here are how other characters look, courtesy of Fallout Shelter: If you’re looking for more on the Fallout TV show, IGN has rounded up 111 details in the Fallout show that have been pulled straight from the games, leading to a season finale that sets up a new adventure in a beloved setting. Crawl out through the fallout, baby! I've watched two episodes of Amazon's recently released Fallout TV show, a series for and about Walton Goggins' rizz (a thing the kids say). I've been on the Goggins hype train for over a decade at this point, and it's great that - oh sorry, I'm being told that the Fallout TV show is in fact about Bethesda's post-nukepocalypse RPG series of video games, and as such has given a massive player bump to said video games on Steam. Posted on Xitter by SteamDB yesterday (HT to our pals at Eurogamer), it appears Fallout has more than doubled its concurrent players on Steam since the show dumped all its episodes last week.
