  1. Fallout 4 has been enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity thanks to Amazon's television adaptation. Of course, as with any Bethesda game, players are modding it constantly, so much so that the NexusMods servers recently struggled with the influx of new players. While most mods are fan passion projects, sometimes they manage to attract the attention and support of people on the professional side of games, and Shady Motives is one of those lucky few. 5. Recently, the Resident Evil 4 Remake sparked discussion around the prevalence of yellow paint in videogames. As a journalist who both reviews and guides games pre-embargo, before there's any guidance out there on how to progress, I like the bright splatters pointing me in the right direction. But for those of you who can't stand it, new indie horror game Still Wakes the Deep is going to be adding an option to reduce the amount of spilled paint markers that appear throughout your playthrough. 7. Remember Lords of the Fallen? No, not that one. This one. Last year’s reboot of the 2014 game of exactly the same name - despite the successor originally being a numbered sequel, then at least having a ‘The’ at the start of its title to help tell them apart a little - will now get its own follow-up in a third Lords of the Fallen game. The upcoming sequel doesn’t have a name yet, but I really hope they stick with the bit and just call it “Lords of the Fallen” again. Read more View the full article

  10. Taming dinosaurs can be a tedious process in ARK: Survival Ascended, but it can be made easier by using Kibble. There are a variety of Kibble types, and like with most foods in the game, each dinosaur will prefer a different kind. However, there are some nuances to using Kibble that you will have to navigate while you are attempting to tame dinosaurs. Additionally, players have to craft Kibble as opposed to finding it in the wild. View the full article
  11. Bethesda has no plans to “rush” out a new Fallout game to capitalise on the franchise’s current popularity. That’s according to game director Todd Howard, who told YouTube channel MrMattyPlays “Fallout’s never been more popular” than it is following April’s release of Amazon’s TV show, which has helped drive a massive increase in game sales. Nevertheless, Howard said Bethesda’s willing to take its time with the next mainline Fallout game in order to “get it right”. Read More... View the full article

  14. Every now and again Bethesda implements a paid model for mods in its games, and it usually goes very wrong, very fast. Now, history rhymes once again as Starfield faces thousands of negative reviews following Bethesda’s attempt at re-introducing paid mods into its flagship titles. The paid mods were brought into the game through the release of the Creation Kit and Creations, with which Bethesda aimed to tackle third-party mod-hosting websites such as NexusMods and centralize mod sharing. Alongside that, Creations also featured a paid mod section where both the modder and the publisher would earn a commission from each purchase. This enraged the fanbase, to say the least, who felt Bethesda is trying to “exploit” mods and modders to earn an extra buck from those creators trying to fix its games. View the full article
  15. Bethesda Game Studios chief Todd Howard has responded to a backlash over Starfield paid mods, confirming the developer will look at its pricing model for Creations content. On Steam, Starfield’s recent user reviews are now on ‘Mostly Negative’ after disgruntled players hit out at Bethesda for charging $7 for a single Starfield mission. The second mission of the recently released Trackers Alliance is only available as a Starfield Creation and costs $7, or 700 credits. Creations are built via Starfield’s Creation Kit, and include free and paid-for mods. Creations include new missions, gear, skins, and weapons. Here’s the official blurb from Bethesda: Trackers Alliance establishes the first of several missions enabling you to live your best bounty-hunting life. The first mission, The Starjacker will have you in contact with a mysterious Tracker located in settlements throughout the Settled Systems. From there, let the hunts begin! The second Trackers Alliance mission, The Vulture is available within the new Creations menu. And what bounty hunter is without their trusted methods to get the job done? In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Todd Howard responded directly to the criticism, and confirmed plans to look again at Bethesda’s pricing for Creations content. “We hear that feedback, too,” Howard said. “First of all I’ll say that stuff gets priced based on things that we've done before both in Creation Club and then Fallout 76, and we're always trying to be looking at what else is out there, really make sure we're giving value to everybody and where we're not, hey you know, we definitely will adjust. “The one thing I want to say on The Trackers Alliance, that was really an attempt to something we did in Creation Club where we'd say, hey you get this special outfit and you get this special *******, we wanted to put them together, and then thought, let's go the extra mile and wrap those around a quest. “But now we definitely see the feedback right? And that's not what we want at all in terms of, oh no, this looks like a faction that we're chopping up and then selling for 700 credits at a time. And so I do think we are going to take a look at that and how we deliver content like that, and whether we're changing pricing or breaking it up or what we should do there. So, great feedback from the community.” Howard insisted, however, that Bethesda’s policy on paid mods has the health of the modding community at heart. “As it comes to, particularly the creators out there, look, our view is, a lot of them have gone from hobbyists to professionals. And it’s part of our job to make sure they can do that and they do get paid and they see the monetary rewards if they make awesome content,” Howard said. Elsewhere, Howard has confirmed plans to release a second story expansion for Starfield following this year’s Shattered Space, and commented on the long development of The Elder Scrolls 6. 16. Fumes has starred in a few Screenshot Saturday round-ups but this is the first time, to my knowledge, that somebody from the Treehouse has slipped behind the wheel and taken this crusty old banger for a spin. I am glad to have done so. Created by a team of four, Fumes is the **** Max X Vigilante 8 adaptation somebody really should have made in the 90s, when the very thought of such a thing would have had me flipping tables and then sheepishly righting them again, before being sent to bed with no dinner. It's an open world combat racer with boisterous arcade handling, pop-out guns that wiggle about like hood ornaments, some kaiju-wannabe boss vehicles, a delightfully crunchy, ****** artstyle and a passably earwormy metal soundtrack. I'm not entirely convinced it has longevity beyond its impeccably scorched and dented PS1 vibes, but I definitely think you should try the demo, now that the early access version is out. Nexa, who previously played with G2 from late 2019 through the beginning of 2022, returned for a second stint with the club this past November. View the full article
  18. Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive has been shut down by its parent company, Embracer Group, following a string of closures by the Swedish conglomerate. In recent years, Embracer Group has developed a reputation for acquiring and subsequently shuttering multiple subdivisions. Alone in the Dark served as a reimagining of Infogrames's 1992 series of the same name and was released in March 2024 to mixed reviews, despite a compelling lead duo in Jodie Comer and David Harbour. The original was credited as being one of the earliest iterations of a survival horror game, but the 2024 remake ******* to inspire. View the full article

  20. The Early Access co-op dungeon crawler Dark and Darker has attracted plenty of positive attention, but one prominent issue holds it back from becoming truly great. Although it has been a hit for many, Dark and Darker was not available on Steam for a long time due to legal issues. 21. Christmas has come early. Christmas 1974, to be precise, and Caz McLeary has just received an ultimatum from his wife. This domestic affair to Still Wakes the Deep is pulled straight from developer The ******** Room's narrative playbook, and the studio's return to horror is as welcome as it is long overdue. Even its landmark releases - Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture - conjure up an unease analogous to a horror or thriller. However, instead of a remote Hebridean island or a quaint Shropshire village, this latest offering transports players to one of the most primordial places on Earth: the middle of the North Sea. She's big, has potent golden retriever energy, and can probably bench press me—but she's also, like a lot of the game's cast, spectacularly well-written. Her journey of betrayal and punk-rock redemption is compelling and moving, to the point where the lack of a "perfect" ending was a point of controversy... Read more.View the full article
  25. The perpetually scarlet-faced and jovially maladroit folk of Embracer have done their usual vaudeville comedy routine of spinning around with negative-dollar signs in their eyes and trampling on another game development studio - in this case, Pieces Interactive, creators of the recent Alone In The Dark reboot. The Swedish studio's website is now a tombstone, bearing the dates 2007-2024. Oopsy-daisy! Read more View the full article
