  1. Baldur's Gate 3 had a long early access *******—opening its doors in October 2020 before finally dropping in August 2023, almost three years (1,031 days, to be exact) later. It was a vastly different game to what it is now. For instance, I remember my inner D&D rules lawyer being very upset that firebolt made a damaging surface—that misstep, as well as a few others, were corrected for the better, producing what I'll happily call one of the strongest RPGs we'll see this decade... 2. Part of Starfield's new Creations programs, the second Trackers Alliance mission, called The Vulture, is a paid add-on that costs 700 Starfield Creation Credits, equivalent to $7 – though you're really going to be spending $10 as that's the least you can buy to cover the cost. 4. An upcoming EA Sports FC rival, UFL, held its first open beta between June 7 and 9. Over these three days, it recorded astonishing numbers, with millions of players tuning in. The game’s official X (formerly Twitter) profile shared some information about the beta on June 17. A graphic outlined that players created 1,320,000 clubs, played 5,560,000 matches, and scored 9,986,206 goals. View the full article
  5. The Remake Of The End Of The Greatest RPG Of All Time, or TROTEOTGRPGOAT for, uh, short, is a game that exists. I normally wouldn’t let such an opaque stub of a description survive outside of a quick Trello reminder to write something better later, but I’m currently finding it fulfilling enough just to gaze upon that title and consider the fully formed art object that may soon emerge from its tantalising promises. Ok, so the visual component helps too. Orientate yourself by means of the trailer below, and let’s dig into this brazen nose-******* of a head turner of a game that does exist, about another game that doesn’t. 6. Capcom looks set to re-release the original 1996 version of Resident Evil for modern platforms. That’s according to a rating by Europe’s PEGI, which indicates that the original game has been cleared for release on PC this week. Although it was released on PC in 1996, the original Resident Evil is not widely available for purchase on modern storefronts. On Steam, currently none of the original RE games are available to buy. 7. While Hidetaka Miyazaki says Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is designed to provide at least one character with a "conclusive endpoint", it sounds like there should still be plenty of room for the development of fun fan theories. As you're probably aware if you're reading this, FromSoftware is known for telling its tales in a fashion that often leaves players to put the pieces together, with Elden Ring and the nine million fan theories it's spawned over the years being a prime example of why subtle storytelling can be incredibly effective. Which other game, after all, could leave fans speculating about the metaphysical implications of some curtains? In response to being asked how FromSoft has approached crafting Shadow of the Erdtree's ending and whether it's aimed to leave things a little bit open with a view to doing more in the future during an interview with Gamespot, Miyazaki didn't say too much, but did confirm that at least one character will get a proper payoff in the DLC. 8. You forgot about Habbo Hotel, didn't you? Habbo Hotel. With those words and the above image, it is possible I have sent a shocking dose of neurochemical nostalgia through your brain and into your various internal organs. Your vision blurs. You sweat. You are 12 years old again, frightened and intrigued at the idea of graduating to teenhood, bathing in the cool glow of a cream-********* CRT computer monitor. "Habbo Hotel is back!" is what I might shout if I did not know better, snapping you back to the present day in an act of psychological whiplash. The truth is the pixellated hangout zone of the early 2000s never went away. It has been alive this whole time. You forgot about the Hotel. But the Hotel did not forget about you. Today, developers Sulake are doing something to jog your memory. They are calling it Habbo Hotel: Origins. I ask you to think carefully before you go there. Read more View the full article
  9. Sony Pictures is working on a follow-up to its 2022 Uncharted movie, it’s announced. The news was shared during the studio’s CineEurope presentation this week, as reported by Variety, in which it reportedly confirmed that Tom Holland would again play protagonist Nathan Drake. The Uncharted movie, which had a $120 budget, launched in February 2022 and earned over $400 million worldwide. To date, only a handful of video game movie adaptations have earned more. Read More... 10. Oh dear, the Street Fighter movie has had to pause progress, as it has just lost its pair of directors. Back in April, Capcom and Legendary Entertainment announced that it was working together to make a live-action movie based on Street Fighter. Soon after that, brother filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou were attached to direct the project, potentially a popular choice given their surprise 2022 indie horror hit Talk To Me, which they made with A24. However, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it appears both Philippou brothers have now left the project, leaving Legendary on the hunt for someone else to helm the film. According to THR, scheduling is partly to blame. The Philippous are working with A24 again on a film titled Bring Her Back, another horror film that is yet to have any plot details announced publicly. This one is set to star Sally Hawkins (Paddington) and Billy Barratt (Mr Selfridge), and ********* is set to start later this month in Australia. Legendary and Capcom were apparently hoping to ****** sooner than the Philippous were able to commit to, and it seems like their personal project must have taken priority for the pair of filmmakers. 13. Edwin backstory fragment #345: the greatest usage to which I have ever put my failing grasp of mathematics is determining how many different RPGs I could buy using the "same" money, by dint of trading them in promptly at Gamestation for carefully calculated diminishing returns. I'd save up to buy one of the premium headliners, attempt to get my money's worth inside a week, then swap it for a respected double-A and perhaps a sub-£8 oddity with the manual missing - nesting one purchase within the other like a series of Matryoshka dolls. This was my Big Short, my Money Ball. But it had a drawback: often, I was so eager to leapfrog to another game before the trade-in price changed that I skimmed RPGs that are now considered classics. The big one was Suikoden 2, which I spent only an evening with before gambling that I'd eke more FunValue out of a game with a less traditional battle system. I can't remember what I traded that for, which says it all. Another was Baten Kaitos on Gamecube, which - yes, we are finally getting to the point here - has just been rereleased on Steam in the shape of a Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster. I can't remember what I traded Baten Kaitos for either, which again, says it all. Please, gentle reader - be better. Read more View the full article

  20. Since the reveal of Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 at Summer Game Fest 2024, many online have been gawking at the roughly 300GB storage requirement listed on the game's store page. However, the truth behind this figure is a bit of a mystery, even to some of the senior developers. As many familiar with the modern Call of Duty series will tell you, that 300GB figure encompasses more than just the base game. It contains the single player campaign, multiplayer, zombies, Warzone and more. During a roundtable interview I was present at following last week's reveal I asked how large each of the individual major game modes will be, so players only interested in a portion of the package can get an idea of how much space they'll need to set aside. Both associate design director Matt Scronce and senior director of production Yale Miller couldn't actually share a rough figure. "I don't know exactly what we're going to end up at" states Miller. "We continue to look at it from an optimisation perspective, but we don't actually know where we're going to end up." Another writer present - Brodie Gibbons from Press Start Australia - followed this up by asking if players could disable texture streaming and just download the entirety of the game. To this, both Scronce and Miller responded that they didn't know. Though Miller, following this admission, stated the following, Read more View the full article
  21. According to senior developers on Street Fighter 6 meta events for Akuma - including a Twitch plays community stream and a raid boss style encounter inside the game's battle hub - were a success in the eyes of the development team at Capcom. In fact, speaking to Kotaku at Summer Game Fest, both director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto state that this kind of fun, fresh take on a character launch in something the team is keen to explore in the future, noting that both were a big hit. The pair state, "When we did the raid boss event with Akuma in the battle hub that was a big hit. That just made [us] realize there should be more opportunities to get people excited about events like that, that’s something [we] want to explore in the near future.” Read more View the full article

  23. Hours after the heroic rescue of orphans from Vernen Wells by the ***** Divers, Super Earth command celebrated with two minutes of rest followed by the next order. While the incredibly ***** children prepare for military service, Helldivers 2 players are tasked with ******** Terminid orphans—using large drills. Marked on the Galactic War map as a “*******” Major Order, Helldivers 2‘s Rescue Orphans vs. MD-17 Anti-Tank Mine Major Order—colloquially known as “Operation Trolley Problem”—tilted majorly in the direction of the orphans. Players didn’t receive a reward from Super Earth outside of a message saying the Anti-Tank Mine stratagem‘s production would have to be delayed until later. This caused players no end of confusion, with Reddit posts cropping up asking what the “reward” was for saving the children. Many Divers think that—should they have saved Marfark as well—medals and a more tangible reward may have gotten handed out. View the full article
