  1. Prior to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s release in the fall of 2017, the crossover fighting game faced an uphill battle with newbies and longtime fans alike because of its abrasively shiny and underlit art style. Now, seven years later, a popular fighting game Twitch streamer announced he is working on a fan project that will give the game a facelift and, hopefully, encourage players who passed on it to give it a second chance. Yesterday, Maximilian Dood announced on his official X/Twitter account that he is in the midst of a fan project that will give Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite a cel-shaded art style akin to the aesthetic Capcom gave the game in previous titles. In his announcement post, Maximilian revealed he commissioned a fighting game modder named Ryn (@WistfulHopes) to develop the mod's new art style. “We're getting close to something that makes me really happy, and hopefully many others who adverted their eyes from MVCI originally,” Maximilian Dood wrote on X/Twitter. Again, I can't compliment @WistfulHopes more on the hardwork and talent on display. We're getting close to something that makes me really happy, and hopefully many others who adverted their eyes from MVCI originally. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Maximilian Dood (@maximilian_) May 2, 2024 Speaking with IGN, Ryn revealed the fan project came together on Monday, saying she was already at work tinkering with MvC: I mods. It wasn’t until Maximilian took note of Ryn’s MvC: I shader mod post that the pair decided to combine forces and jointly make the fan project. Ryn’s X/Twitter account is filled with posts showcasing in-progress snippets of MvC: I’s new shader in action. Chief among them is a clip of Ryu performing a level 3 shin shoryuken, a revamped menu and win screen, and a glimpse at a cel-shaded Spider-Man. “The most challenging part was figuring out the changes Capcom made to the rendering engine, as there were some customizations,” Ryn told IGN, adding that the most fulfilling part of the project is seeing it in action. “It feels incredible seeing the hard work pay off.” video [Hidden Content] — Ryn (@WistfulHopes) April 29, 2024 Maximilian and Ryn’s MvC: I project goes beyond giving the fighter a new coat of cel shader paint. Aside from introducing various texture and model edits, Ryn tells IGN the duo is planning more visual edits as the project progress. Ryn also said the pair is planning on a seperate gameplay mod for a later date. “I just hope to get people interested in modding Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite,” Ryn said. “There's a lot of potential here.” took a screencap of vanilla mahvel infinite just to see the side by side difference of @WistfulHopes' glorious new shaders [Hidden Content] — Alice I MarrowOchi (@MarrowOchi) May 2, 2024 Fans are already praising Maximilian and Ryn’s MvC:I fan project in Maximilian's replies and on Reddit. Players on the r/Fighters subreddit are virtually toasting the in-progress mod, saying it will finally make MvC:I look as good as it feels to play. Likewise, folks on the r/TwoBestFriendsPlay subreddit are big-upping the project's exisence as a great first step in saving the troubled fighting game, adding that the deed will finally be done once modders use it to add custom characters into the game like Vergil from the ****** May Cry series. In our review, we rated Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite 7.7 out of 10, saying its “poor art style and story give the excellent fighting game underneath a bad name.” Isaiah Colbert is a freelance writer for IGN. 2. Starship Troopers actor Casper Van Dien has offered his thoughts on Sony’s PC and PlayStation 5 hit Helldivers 2, and he has some thoughts about those capes. The actor, who played the ****-toting Johnny Rico in the original movie, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, and Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars, worked with Gamology to take a closer look at Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op sci-fi shooter. The Helldivers series takes clear inspiration from Starship Troopers, so it was no surprise to see Van Dien calling out some of its many references. “I see all of it,” he explained. “I see the way the guys talk, and what they say. I see the bugs and everything. It is such a tribute to Starship Troopers. It’s really quite wonderful.” Starship Troopers features a lot of recognizable qualities, but more than anything, fans know the franchise for the swarms of bugs that form the Arachnid Empire. Helldivers 2 essentially offers fans a mirror version of that world, with its version of bugs, the Terminids, also coming in different shapes and sizes as they swarm players. With similar helmets, guns, dialogue, and even tone, Helldivers is basically a walking, talking Starship Troopers love letter. Van Dien latched onto the love for his sci-fi ‘90s flick immediately. However, he’s got one issue with the way the Helldivers choose to spread liberty. “That cape…it’s cool, but…,” Van Dien said. “Helldivers looks just like being out there in the thing. They’re throwing capes in, which probably would’ve gotten on my nerves. It’s almost like they have the flags on them, so that’s kind of cool I guess.” Elsewhere in the video, Van Dien is asked if he would ever be interested in joining Helldivers 2 in some capacity. Though he was a bit hesitant, it sounds like the ****** for Super Earth would come naturally for him. “Of course, I love the idea of Helldivers 2. I think General Brasch looks great. I think…you never know what could happen," he said. "I’m open to see what happens. I already feel like I’m already a part of it.” "I love being Johnny Rico, but the General looks pretty cool in this one. I’m not going to lie. He continued: "You never know, if Helldivers or Starship Troopers: Extermination came, I’d be very interested in it. It’s something I think is cool. I’m very particular to my Starship, you know that. I love being Johnny Rico, but the General looks pretty cool in this one. I’m not going to lie.” Van Dien enjoyed his time with Helldivers 2 and we did, too. In our review, we gave the Starship Troopers love letter a 9/10. At the time, we said, “Helldivers 2's combat feels fantastic, its missions stay fresh and interesting, and its smart progression system doesn’t nickel and dime you.” Michael Cripe is a freelance contributor with IGN. 3. Enlarge / Streaming Fallout 4 from GeForce Now might seem unnecessary, unless you know how running it natively has been going. (credit: Kevin Purdy) [/url] The Steam Deck is a Linux computer. There is, technically, very little you cannot get running on it, given enough knowledge, time, and patience. That said, it's never a bad thing when someone has done all the work for you, leaving you to focus on what matters: sneaking game time on the couch. GeForce Now, Nvidia's game-streaming service that uses your own PC gaming libraries, has made it easier for Steam Deck owners to get its service set up on their Deck. On the service's Download page, there is now a section for Gaming Handheld Devices. Most of the device links provide the service's Windows installer, since devices like the ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go run Windows. Some note that GeForce Now is already installed on devices like the Razer Edge and Logitech G Cloud. But Steam Deck types are special. We get a Unix-style executable script, a folder with all the necessary Steam icon image assets, and a README.md file. Read 5 remaining paragraphs | Comments View the full article

  8. Helldivers 2 oddly requires that I spend its in-game currency on items I don't want (capes, helmets, any emote other than the hug) just so I can gain access to the items I do (******* rifles, SMGs, other weapons that ultimately turn out to be worse than what I already had). I'm so far unconvinced by the need to pay real money to unlock a premium warbond, therefore. The trailer for the next premium warbond, coming May 9th, does contain glimpses of some weapons I'd like, however. Read more View the full article

  11. Maksym “Max-Strafe” Stadniuk may be a familiar name to longtime Apex Legends Global Series fans but a completely unfamiliar one to newer folks. That’s because he hasn’t played on LAN since the ALGS returned to live events, despite qualifying for them all—until now. Max-Strafe hasn’t been able to leave his native Ukraine in the past several years due to Russia’s invasion of the country. Despite this, he’s never been far from the top of EMEA, helping longtime teammates Casper “Gnaske” Præstensgaard and Matthew “SirDel” Biggins qualify for LAN as both Team GMT and Pioneers. Those times, however, his teammates were forced to field substitutes on LAN when Max-Strafe’s attempts to leave the country were unsuccessful. But alongside Ukrainian team PassionUA, Max-Strafe is finally on LAN, and he’s more than ready to leave his mark. View the full article

  15. Chuck the original Half-Life and Minecraft into a reactor core with Lethal Company and the resulting, bleating, pustulant abomination might look a bit like Abiotic Factor, a one-to-six player first-person survival game from Deep Field Games and Playstack, in which a bunch of stranded boffins must find their way out of a massive underground lab. On the one hand, you've got to deal with interdimensional horrors of various flavours, such as multiple-storey cryptids and squishy skinless wolves; on the other, invading squads of Combiney soldiers. Fortunately, you've got a big **** Ivy League brain stuffed with knowledge of ******* gadgets, base construction, subterranean farming and battlefield medicine. My increasing phobia for survival games notwithstanding, I think this looks and sounds like a hoot - and it's out now in early access. Here's the launch trailer. 16. In a post-release patch, Larian Studios added Honour Mode to Baldur's Gate 3. Honour Mode makes enemies and bosses *******, while introducing harsher rules that work against the player, similar to Tactician Mode. The big difference in what makes Honour Mode such a difficult endeavor is that it only gives players a single save. If a party is wiped out, that's it, the campaign is officially over and a player will have to start again from the Nautiloid Ship in a new save. View the full article
